I called Dell today and they said my ETA is 20 Jan! 1 month to deliver! WTF???

They should have planned the supply & demand properly next time.  am so disappointed...

Don't think so. Just recently we had dual-core Atom launches, but not many manufacturers have put it to use as far as I can see.

Also, not much is going to change for the i5 SB processor. Marginal changes, if any. Only the i7 will get substantial benefits.

Matt screens have never been popular although there has demand and that is not likely to change, SSDs getting cheaper will take a while too. Expect marginal in 'months'. Even the XPS only dropped 300-400 bucks IINM to clear stock, so how convinced are you that in a few months the price of SSDs will drop in a big percentage?

So there we go then, absolutely no point getting the xps now. If it was a dramatic 1k plus price cut, thats a good bargain, and it would mean its a good time to purchase a laptop. But reality is, the only 'available' notebook right now is the Acer Aspire 5750G. Comparing this situation to a fruit/farmers market thing, its like getting there an hour before they all pack up and leave, you're just left with the scraps instead of shelves over flowing with big, fat... bright juicy veggies and fruit. I am doing a 24hr stop over in KL on the 28th before I head to Sydney for studies. So fingers crossed I'd have some choices regarding laptops with SB processors.
Not having a lot of time on my hands to browse around, what would be the best place to do my shopping? Lowyat or the Digital mall in PJ? Ive also read that theres an IT Fair of some sorts up at the Mega Mall from the 28th to the 31st, one would suspect all new products (including SB laptops) would be available there. some how, advise to those who intent to buy sandy bridge proccessor laptop, pls buy core i7 2720QM, dont ever buy Core i7 2630, some how it is not much different compare to current Core i7

If they have to refresh specs, they shouldn't need to discontinue ordering parts, would it? Like the backlight keyboarding, what has it got to do with processors or any other components. Clearly they are going to stop production already. Something new with updated model architecture is replacing it.

Do we really have to wait till late March for XPS with SB? I was hoping early February like the XPS 17 with SB in USA.

Maybe that's what the Dell sales person wants us to think, so that we'd be impatient and just help them clear the current XPS stock? Hmm?

is there any major problems with dell xps 14 or 15? current users of dell xps 14 or 15 can share their experience? planning to get one soon. now using dell xps m1330 and got the NVIDIA problem but was repaired by Dell twice FOC due to the NVIDIA manufacturing defects. love dell bcoz their customer service is so good

If the socket isn't properly grounded then you'll get shocks, I guess.
Actually, it's 'safe' to buy now. Just that they're recalling the chipsets, so we're not entirely sure if the flaw affects the processor. If it also affects the processor, then whoever who buys a SB laptop, good luck la 

Thank goodness I got my XPS 15 before the backlit keyboard ran out and all. 

XPS 15 and XPS 17 have been refreshed in the U.S. Dell website with Sandy Bridge processors and Nvidia GeForce 500M series GPU's. They also feature chiclet styled keyboards.

I don't think we will have the 17 inch version here in Malaysia, but fingers crossed that the new XPS 15 will, and fast.

I'm guessing you're guessing wrong. I think anything costing USD1000 there will start at RM3499/3599 here...

Those Americans are already buying it - and they have XPS 17 in the UK already. We might get it within a week (with not as many options).

I hope the important options will be available, such as the backlit keyboard. (the main reason I decided to ditch the L501X and wait for the L502X!)

should i get XPS 14 for photoshop, illustrator, video editing and maybe some 3D stuff?

i already compared and configurated the lappy many times. and, there's no quads core option.
but i like the option to better screen which XPS14 dont have.

  but i bet, any of them is still better than my AMD Athlon x2 processor, it's so damn hot. fried my mobo few times liao.
