Hey there good people,
Real good thread this!
If I go for the i7 processor, 1080p full HD screen, 8 gigs of RAM and 2 gigs of VGA options how much would that cost me?
I am stopping over in KL for a day (on the 28th of this month) and will be looking for a lappy around 4k RM. Would a xps 15 be the best choice for me at this price range? I love the specs and aesthetics of this machine. Looks quiet slick.
Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks for the reply TheWandererX, I think I am gonna get a netbook for the next few months till all the laptop manufacturers roll out the new intel SandyBridge processor. I'd have a better feel for picking a good laptop. The processor is the heart of the machine and every other hardware component sorta revolves around it. We'd get stronger machines at a more competitive price compared to whats available in the market currently. Not to mention the new improvements 2011 will bring (eg more matt screen options..SSD getting cheaper....etc)
so for all you guys itching to buy a laptop...wait around till the 2nd quarter!

But now, this brings me to a new 'problem'....what about netbooks? do they have an upcoming processor upgrade?? sleep.gif

Even the XPS only dropped 300-400 bucks IINM to clear stock, so how convinced are you that in a few months the price of SSDs will drop in a big percentage?

So there we go then, absolutely no point getting the xps now. If it was a dramatic 1k plus price cut, thats a good bargain, and it would mean its a good time to purchase a laptop. But reality is, the only 'available' notebook right now is the Acer Aspire 5750G. Comparing this situation to a fruit/farmers market thing, its like getting there an hour before they all pack up and leave, you're just left with the scraps instead of shelves over flowing with big, fat... bright juicy veggies and fruit. I am doing a 24hr stop over in KL on the 28th before I head to Sydney for studies. So fingers crossed I'd have some choices regarding laptops with SB processors.
Not having a lot of time on my hands to browse around, what would be the best place to do my shopping? Lowyat or the Digital mall in PJ? Ive also read that theres an IT Fair of some sorts up at the Mega Mall from the 28th to the 31st, one would suspect all new products (including SB laptops) would be available there. Please advice me. thank You smile.gif

Just look at it....what a gorgeous piece of equipment.....<3333

The core i7 2630 like you say is slightly better than the last gen i7 740QM, but the i7 2630 comes at a fraction of the price doesnt it?
Since its the entry 2nd gen i7. Where as the i7 740QM is more high end, and expensive, but with a same if not lesser performance level. Logically thinking, the 2630 would be better.
Have any laptops in Malaysia started rolling out the i7 2720, 2820 and 2920 yet?

I feel where you're coming from putochip123. The i7 2630 does feel a bit.....gimmicky? doesn't it...well that's what I felt when it had come out with the acer 5750G. Being the only 2nd gen i7 processor available...the hype and consumer excitement alone will sell this product. The more solid ones like i said before would come out after March or so.

The new XPS! :

so decently priced too.....dammit...wish I would be able to wait till after Feb to get my laptop...it would definitely be this...
