as i said....it might not have enough stock probably demo unit at DLE
*
I can confirm NO more stock for the XPS 15! Just came back from DLE. Did not see any demo unit there even, probably taken liao? Won't be restocking tomorrow either as all stock finished!

Vernon91! Great job on starting this thread! Another Dell XPS 15 user reporting in! tongue.gif

For those who want my (long delayed) personal review, unboxing video and photos, see my blog post: http://wolfkodi.blogspot.com/2010/12/my-fi...s-15-l501x.html

I would highly recommend the 15 version over 14 IF size is not an issue! So many more features! I when to DLE today and personally saw how much smaller the touchpad for the 14 version is compared to mine. So, a much larger touchpad, dedicated subwoofer and USB 3.0. You won't get these with the 14 version.

Been a while since I followed the other thread and this new now, gotta do some reading...

For all who have got their XPS too, congrats! For all who are anxiously waiting, relax and I hope you will enjoy it soon.

The full hd screen upgrade for XPS has gone since yesterday....i hope it will be back soon....
*
Wow! I seriously didn't know this laptop will be so popular. Luckily I order earlier. tongue.gif But even then, I had to wait one extra week longer due to part shortage. I think it could have been this screen upgrade. And I was gone for just one week and waah so many post already!

I just did, nothing much lah, actual PC Fair more things to see. As for the Dell XPS purchases at DLE compared to online. You only get free gifts like free bags and thumbdrives.

Otherwise, get it and live with the fact that everything is very small.
At first this was what worried me when it comes to the 1080p choice, but it is not as bad as it seems after actually using it. The pros outweighs the cons for me. Especially since I upgraded to the blu-ray drive too!

well...there's a prob using latest hwmonitor...
it wont automatically detect nvidia and it shows nothing..
for optimus users will have to open an application tht uses nvidia and refresh the hwmonitor and it js will appears...

Added on December 13, 2010, 9:51 amand a question here....
if my laptop still warm and can i close the lid?
will it do any harm to laptop? or to the screen?
*
That's probably because Optimus disabled your nvidia graphics card entirely, so readings do not show until you use an application that requires it.

Yes you can close the lid because all air vents are located at the side and bottom only and your screen should be off when you close the lid, just don't block those vents.

Here are some of my temperature values for XPS 15 i7 435M:
For those who do not know, CUDA technology uses the Nvidia GPU to share the CPU's workload for video encoding/decoding.

I also removed it. Can be too troublesome sometimes and slows down startup speed.

Added on December 15, 2010, 7:41 amHey guys, I wonder if any of you are experiencing this. I leave my mouse connected via the USB 2/eSata port. Most of the time when I start my laptop, I need to unplug and replug my mouse to get it detected. Some occasions I don't have to. I have not tired connecting it to either of the other two USB 3 ports since they are located further away. I wonder if this has something to do with some power saving settings.

While trying to find a solution for my USB mouse which sometimes does not get detected automatically upon boot (I have to unplug and replug it in once Windows has fully started) using the eSata/USB2 port, I came across as option labeled "Virtualization" in the BIOS and it's set to enabled by default.

Anyone knows what is this for?

That's to enable Intel VT (Virtualization Technology)
Only useful if you run virtual machines using VMWare Player or VirtualBox
*
Hmm.. since we don't use that, wonder if disabling it will improve performance, however little. Anyway, after playing around with BIOS and power options, I still have to reconnect my mouse almost every time. Using the non-eSata/USB 2 ports solves the issue. Looks like I'll have to use one of those ports.

Don't forget, it is a B+RGLED. I'll get a little technical here: WLEDs can only show 60+-% of the total color gamut (color range) of Adobe RGB, while B+RGLED can show almost 100% of the total color gamut. Layman's terms, colors are more realistic and vibrant on the B+RGLED compared to the WLED. There's a lot of differences between the two but it might even go unnoticed apart from the sharper, pop-pier pictures displayed by the B+RGLED.
From my experience it made a significant difference as all my relatives and friends I've shown my laptop to commented upon how vibrant/beautiful the pictures viewed on the screen are. You will notice the difference if you view images or watch movies often, especially pictures which have a wide colour spectrum.

I've read about those RGBLED screens with way over 100% Adobe color gamut representation making windows and other non-imaging applications appear oversaturated. If this is still the case then, B+RGLED screens are a great compromise because they do not present this issue.

Yes, they are changeable. Borrowed from a fellow member wolfkodi's blog (warning, big image):

This is the little panel which you can open up and the memory module slots are right underneath it. And just a tip, RAM gets hot, that's why there are vents for airflow there.
Oh, I didn't know memory modules are underneath that. Did you actually unscrew that to have a look at it? rclxms.gif I only know know that the hard drive is only accessible after removing the keypad which can be troublesome. sad.gif

Does 1080p comes with any drawbacks? What would my desktop resolution become? That B+RGLED thing seems very nice.
*
Yup, text and stuff would appear smaller, but not Windows 7 icons or anything Windows related because Windows high DPI awareness automatically adjust and enlarge the text size for you. You can even set up your applications to be DPI-aware so that their text and icons don't appear too small or eye straining.

Read more here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd...1(v=vs.85).aspx

As for web browsing, you can use magnification. On IE I have the magnification set to 125%. On Chrome at 120% for this forum.

For me, 1080p's pros far outweighs its cons. Plus I have Blu-Ray Rom and enjoy FHD so yeah. tongue.gif

RGBLED was and is quite overkill, IMHO. Btw, what do you mean by 'B+RG screens are a great compromise'? Forgive me for asking, I'm not quite sure what you meant by that.
Damn it, mine is still processing delivery date  doh.gif the invoice says on or before 13/1.  doh.gif  doh.gif
Again I don't know how great an issue this is but some people are complaining about oversaturation on RGBLED. See: http://www.google.com.my/#hl=en&q=RGBLED+oversaturated
So since we can't have the best screen without possible oversaturation, isn't B+RGLED a great compromise since it's better than WLED?
Also, if I'm not mistaken RGBLED uses more power.

Oh and I thought you had already got your laptop. ^^;

Hey guys, have you ever encountered a horrible experience with the XPS 15 charger? My one is the L501X, and the charger provided was a pain in the ass.

Unlike normal chargers, I've to fiddle around with it until the components connect with one another. Worse, I've to pull the cabling up or else, it won't work. This is totally absurd when I'm outside.

I've contacted the Dell support and awaiting their response on the 1-to-1 exchange.

I experienced the same problem! But that's not the worst. My charger starting giving off some small electrical noise (have to put your ear close to the charger in order to hear it). But that small noise only comes on occationally and suddenly a few days back my battery stopped working. Maybe it's a fault of the charger? I can still use the charger to power my laptop though. Wonder how long will their 1-to-1 exchange take.

Any one else have problems with the L501X charger? I got mine in December last year.

Edit: My battery still works but is warning me to consider replacing the battery. Is it really going dead? Only 7 months old.
