At the moment I want only a walkaround lens. smile.gif
18-135 is what I'll ask my mum to buy coz it's 1 of the lens kit option for 550D. biggrin.gif
*
50mm f/1.8 can be walkaround lens, altough can be quite tight since the on APS-C size sensor, the range need to X 1.5 or 1.6.

But but 50mm f/1.8 is cheap, can consider it because when you go in low light condition, your kit lens maximum aperture at 18mm is 3.5, you'll suffer in low light, worst when you zoom cause the aperture will stop down. When you want to take portrait with nice bokeh, you'll struggle with your kit lens and you can't get a good result like those primes.

Anyway, it's just additional option for you since it's just top up a little more; You should ask the shop let you try it then you will see the BIG difference and know what I mean. Haven't try you wouldn't know. Once tried, then you will know whether you want it or not. Most of the time, people will be amazed with prime lens.

For me 50mm f1.8 is good but if traveling u want capture fast object slow somemore limited range. I am more a range person so can capture more. By the time u take your 50mm walk there haha too slow di. My opinion.
*
True, but the 50mm f/1.8 is cheap, can consider get one should be no problem. There will be time when he go into low light place, or events, dinner, birthday party, open house, etc. All these, the kit lens he will struggle, even worst if he zoom in which increase the aperture. Imagine the maximum aperture is f4 or f5 when zoom longer, and since zoom the shutter need to compensate for it, only option is to increase the ISO which will sacrifice the quality/details of the picture already.
When using prime lens, can shoot at f2 ~ f2.8, ISO can be keep low while getting correct/good exposure.

Hello DSLR and normal camera SDHC card is different. Nobody go get 32GB like all the photos u gonna keep at 18 megapixel? DSLR highly recommended to get EXTREME III cards it more expensive than normal SDHC for video recording
*
Yup, need faster card, the 16GB Sandisk Extreme III SDHC is good enough (especially if record movie), less than RM180 I think.

thats why i target 1.4 50mm or 85mm 1.8 next lens. But i will still have a walkaround lens for range. I use 50mm 1.8 for 1 week so suffering object too far must walk till infront lol. For low light 1.4 or 1.8 makes alot of difference
*
Yup, 50mm very tight become for APS-C size sensor, it become medium telephoto, which is good for portrait shots. The 24mm or 35mm lens is better for ASC-C size sensor but the price sweat.gif

Still for the price, the 50mm f/1.8 is a very good choice for those tight on budget, and very useful in low light situations like birthday party, open house, events, dinner, wedding dinner, etc. My friend shoot in wedding dinner using ONLY the 50mm f/1.8, enough already, no need use flash at all, can get good exposure and nice shots, another friend of his using kit lens, struggling there and ask why he cannot get the result like his. Only thing is, with prime lens, he need to move a lot.

Even for KLIMS, I see many pros using prime lens only, like 50mm f/1.4 or 85mm f/1.4. Some using those fixed aperture zoom lens, which is far far better than kit lens, but price also beautiful.

because bright enough ma. I saw some carry 1.4 amazing output. Haha bo lui le wait bonus come sin.
*
Yup, 1.4 really nice. Did you watch DigitalRev latest comparison for f/1.8 and f/1.4 and f/1.2? Nice bokeh~

The aperture really lots of difference loh. If take at f4 compare to take at f2... at same shutter speed, to get good exposure, the ISO need to increase a lot, really sacrifice the detail and quality of the picture. Imagine ISO 800 VS ISO 2000++ sweat.gif
Using 18-55mm kit lens, at 18mm the maximum aperture is f3.5; If zoom into 35mm, the maximum aperture is f4? at 55mm the max aperture is f5.6, gone case in low light.

Heng,

You can try watch this for roughly the starter kit you can get; a zoom + prime lens is a good combination to have especially since the 50mm f/1.8 is cheap, for low/tight budget, it's a good choice.

900+ pound eh. That's like 5k plus biggrin.gif

LoL, not ask you to see the price; Ask you to see what to get for starter kit.

Depend on your budget and choose your equipment. If you have 3K budget, you can consider the 50mm f/1.8; Not necessarily you buy, but you can try it out at the shop, take some picture at aperture f1.8, f2, etc. See the difference with your kit lens, you will notice straight away, the quality, the sharpness, the speed, etc. It's priceless compared to the kit lens. The kit lens only 2 thing good, which is wide range and zoom or versatility.

550D with 18-135mm with a free bag and a free tripod confirmed

Memory card, is Ultra II not enough? if it isn't, I'll go for 16gb Extreme III.
*
16GB SDHC Sandisk Extreme III enough, should be less than RM180. You're not going to keep the photo inside the card until it full right? Transfer it to your PC or other storage loh, save the money on the card. 32GB SDHC Extreme III almost double the price, not worth.

Class 10 seems same speed @ 30MB/s. Not sure what's the difference (maybe the constant speed or both read and write?). But the price not much difference also with Class 6 for 16GB.

Class 4 speed is different, only 15MB/s

I thought try to reduce the ISO or else noise level will be high? hmm.gif
*
Yup, for the fireworks, if not wrong, it's playing with shutter speed, the shutter speed will be open for long, like 1 second or more I think, depending the effect of firework you want to capture; The problem is the timing and estimating where the fireworks will pop, etc.

not ISO higher when low light place? i oso confusing now
*
Depend on situation. If you need fast shutter speed and the aperture is at maximum or desired aperture, you can't get correct exposure, then you need to resort to ISO; Usually ISO should be the last option.

For the fireworks, it's not really about ISO, it's actually underexpose if I'm not wrong, because you want to capture only the fireworks. Higher exposure, the firework will be too bright. Need SIFU aspire to confirm this.

also that's the reason lots of PRO very rarely switch their camera brand as the GUI/interface will change...
but of coz still got those hardcore PRO that familiar with many type of devices at once and able to pick and use regarding with any situations or effects that only capable on specify device... really want to play with photography it wont come cheap loh... but still the most important part would be the user creditbility... IDEA is the GENUINITY is the key... hardware is the tools...  icon_idea.gif
*
Actually the main reason I think is the equipment/lens. If you switch brand, all your lens also need to sell sweat.gif

For GUI/interface, controls, etc actually for SAME brand, also got difference. Especially different range model. When go pro range, usually it will not have those basic function and it's more about controls. Plus, sometimes, they switch the buttons here and there from different range.
