Hey guys, need some help here.
My rabbit suddenly stopped eating. He left the hay and pellets untouched since this morning, and I've no idea why. Also seems very unenergetic and inactive, just keep lying down there. What could be the problem? Should I bring him to a vet?

Just following up, last night my rabbit, Mello peed blood, so I was really worried and this morning I brought Mello to the vet and the vet said that he's having a swelling on his lungs or something. Can't remember exactly. Basically gave him some antibiotics and he should be fine... hopefully.

Did the vet mention the cause of it? Is it food or genetic related?

Now I remember the vet said it was swelling of the bladder, not lungs >< Don't know why at that time I remembered as lungs.

The vet didn't mention the cause. Don't think it's genetic, but I didn't change his food much either. If there was changes, maybe it was that I was switching to more Timothy Hay and less Alfalfa Hay since he's now over 6 months old.

On day 2 after he got sick, when he pooped again, some of his poop was stringed together, and I remember reading online about something about that (They ingest their own fur and stuff). Today will be day 4 and Mello has recovered I think (He's up and about instead of just lying down in the past few days), but for some reason he's barely touching his food bowl with hay and pellets, but he eats if I have some hay on my hands and feed it to him. Seems to be recovering slowly but surely at least though.

Erm, Mello is still behaving weirdly since he got sick like a week ago. He's recovered now, but he doesn't like to eat pellets anymore. He used to LOVE them, but now it's like, he doesn't care for them. If you put it in his bowl long enough he'll eat them, but it used to be that I put them in my hand and he would want it and 'ask' for it (stand up on 2 legs and look at me), and now he doesn't even want it when I put it right in front of his face. For some reason, he also dislikes eating the hay that's already inside his bowl, but he would eat fresh ones that I just take out of the packet and stack it on top. What's going on and why the sudden change? Anyone with any idea?

OK. Time to post about my bunny, Mello.
Bought him at the end of last year from J Jay Petstation. He's a Holland Lop. I think I posted pictures of him on this topic before =]

Now he's reaching 1 year old (He was born around October or November if I remember correctly) and he's been with me for months, but he doesn't seem to be happy at all.

1. He wouldn't eat ANY Timothy hay. I know reading a lot of resources that at 6th month onwards I should gradually switch him to Timothy hay, but Mello wouldn't even touch it. I think he rather die than eat Timothy hay (There was once I tried to not feed him anything but leave Timothy hay in his bowl only for a whole day, but he rather starve than eat it). What can I do about this? I'm continuing to feed him Alfalfa and Pellets since those are the only things he eat, but I don't think this should continue for long.

2. He is VERY timid. He does not like coming out of his cage to play. I can leave the cage open but the only thing he will do is (when I'm gone) walk out and start shredding the newspaper that's put under the cage into a million pieces, and then stomach some of it. Then he will find a corner (or even the gap between the cage and the wall) and just stay there quietly. Similarly, if I bring him to my bed/living area he just finds a corner and just stay there. Really doing my best, but no idea how to get him to warm up to me.

3. He is very easily startled. Like, if you try and touch him also he will startle with a fast jerking motion. Try and pat him and sometimes he will startle and run inside the potty triangle to hide.

4. Refuses to be toilet trained. I tried the tactic where people say you take their poo and newspaper with their pee and place it under the netting in the potty. Done that for months, yet he still prefers pooping and peeing randomly.

Sigh... it's like everything that could go wrong went wrong with how I am having him as my first pet. Don't know what I can do =/ I care about him, I really do. Anybody with any suggestions?

Different bunnies have different personalities. You have a shy bunneh. yawn.gif. I read in the internet that u have to leave it in the cage first , put some hay at the toilet and when it start using toilet onli u let it out.

He won't even come out anyway if I leave the cage door open.

maybe u can try APD's timothy hay 2nd cut. my netherland dwarf from jjpet loves it. rabbits prefer the more leafy and green hay compared to the stalky yellow ones.

have u tried making friends with him by using fruits? my one specially love bananas.

if you wanna catch my bunny, you can use banana and he will automatically come to you. but then i would have to kill you. HAHA biggrin.gif

Will take note of this and try this, even though APD's hay is quite expensive >.< Worth a try though to see if Mello will like it =]
I haven't tried any fruits but I have fed him orange juice before xD Will try some in the next few days

Forgot who it was that recommended APD Timothy Gold, but that was what got my rabbit to want to eat timothy hay... and now it's the only timothy hay he would really have. Other brands - I've tried 3 other ones but he refuses to eat it until he is very hungry, and for HayPro timothy, even when he's hungry he would rather not eat. So picky.

Problem is I've been buying Timothy Gold, but recently I can't find the stock in the Petsmore shops I've been passing by from. Festival City, no stock, Taman Connaught, no stock, Mines, no stock, 1 Utama, no stock, etc. Anyone know if any specific branches or pet shops which has stock for APD Timothy Gold?

gahhh APD is gone! i need hay to replace APD's timothy gold.

any recommendations? my rabbit loves the more leafy hay compared to the more stalky ones.

Yeah, APD is gone >.< I've tried to feed my rabbit all sorts of hay but he still never ate them like he ate APD Timothy Gold. However after trialing many brands, these are the ones that he kinda eat a little (Not sure if because of hunger or it's decent):
Best results so far:
1. Nature's 1 All Natural Timothy Hay
2. Marukan The Premium Timothy Hay
3. Beh and Yo's Chopped Timothy Hay

Anyway, anyone going for the Rabbit Show this weekend?
