offside because James(keeper) wasn't there when Malbranque made the pass.. pyro's explanation explains it all

i think radzinski onside bcoz got sun ji hai... i think that just 1 opponent not 2...

but actually you need 2(they say 1 becoz they disregard the keeper based on the assumption that the keeper is always on the goal line or behind the 2nd last defender if you count the goalie as a defender)

There is no offside offence if a player receives the ball directly from:
• a goal kick
• a throw-in
• a corner kick

but in this case Vela not directly received the ball from the corner kick right? No wonder there are some team only send 1 player to guard the goal line during corner kick.

Yes, the ball was headed by another mexican before reaching Vela.

I think the only tweak made just recently was the allowance of players being in offside position but not interfering with play, then the ref has no need to blow the whistle... other than that I haven't heard any changes to it

back to the incident at SA WC, there was a pundit who was outrage on live tv at half time with the ref's decision to disallow the goal but was made to apologize after he found out he was wrong...how embarrassing hahaha

imagine football played without offside rule laugh.gif

you are offside when your head, body or leg is in an offside position when compared against an opponent's LAST BODY PART. For example, check out Chicharito's goal against France in the World Cup:

as you can see, his whole body is beyond the 2nd last man's head and body (the last man would be the goalie). However, that defender's leg is the measure of the offside line as shown by the darkened area of the pitch. That defender's leg rendered Chicharito ONSIDE. A very good decision by the linesman, in fact i think the World Cup 2010 tournament has one of the best offside/onside decisions i've ever seen in the recent times (amidst the terrible linesman call over the past few years).

So when those hard-to-make offside decisions involves only the leg goes beyond the offside line, it is because the leg of the striker goes beyond the defender's last body part (leg, head or body). Hand's are not counted.

Mexico and Portugal wouldn't agree with that methinks biggrin.gif
