I guess the only thing to do is don't be choosy and join a small firm or middle tier (might be hard as well was thinking of UHY, PVF, Moore stephens) . Then quickly get ACCA OR other professional qualification to boost own value.

Do they take into account say the experience in a non accounting firm. Let's say I work like accounts executive in some corporate firm then at the same time pursue papers like ACCA then after finishing join big four or other middle tier firms

yes agree with u that they will discount ur experience plus salary too!

i know right.. kind of devastating to me when they do such.. all the hard work and they just slash it off..

or taking CFA exam while doing auditor in big4 then request for a transfer from audit depart to advisory(corporate finance)?
- does it weird for a auditor to take CFA but not ACCA ?

Thanks for the feedback, but I actually meant working as accounts executive preparing ledgers and stuff etc in a NON accounting firm while pursuing my papers. Does the experience working with non accounting firms counts tho or I should just look for accounting firms of any sizes to work temporarily to increase my foundation and knowledge. Cuz ACCA requires 3 years working in accounting firms so fear that non accounting firms doesn't count. Correct me if I'm wrong. Still a freshie

Ohh. my worries is that if i cant get to join big four or other middle tier accounting firms due to poor degree results then I have no choice but to join non accounting corporate firms to work as accounts executive and at the same time pursue my papers. Then if say i finished my ACCA papers then if my previous experiences in the non accounting firm doesnt count then i have to spend another 3 years to work in accounting firm all over again.

Ask the daughter to try presenting in front of a groups of MDs, CEOs, high lvl mgmt etc etc..she would be more happy to act lousy acts on the stage.

I have just applied to all the big 4, summited my resume and cover letter and waiting for their reply. My question is that, usually how long it takes for them to reply me? For the expected salary, i have enter RM 3000, is this too much?

Im getting a little bit anxious and afraid of getting reject by them due to my degree results (second class lower). thats the only thing that lower down my self-esteem. Regret for being so lazy during my degree.

Thanks for the reply, however when i tell my friend (not in audit/accounting field at all) that i enter my expected salary for rm3000, he straight away say "keep dreaming". So i thought i shouldn't have enter so high.

Thats the problem, I happy for too long already. 2 weeks after result published only go and apply job, see where am I now? lol. learnt it the hard way.

I really hope the first job I get after graduate is audit related job. I want to learn stuff.

I'm ACCA Affiliate and get offer from PwC for IAS department(Personal Tax). I'm in dilemma whether should I accept the offer since some of them told me the career progression is quite narrow. Beside that, Deloitte and KPMG has no vacancies for tax.
Any advice for me? I wish to know the career progression in IAS and will it be quite narrow as compared to other department if I start my career with IAS.

Apologies, agree with your statement. My reply was skewed towards consulting and possibly strategy roles too.

A side observation though, at least from one of the Big 4 firms, new associates (entry level) often have some sort of prior experience.

Fair enough I suppose it does vary across Big 4 and I can't speak for the other 3, only for the one I was at which always sees influx of new freshies.
What is it that you don't like about audit? Is it the work or simply the hours? Do you see yourself eventually going into Finance and if so would you enjoy the work?

I just got a call from PWC for a position there, the person asked me a few questions and explained to me about the job scope, but then she said she'll pass my resume to the management and will call back if I'm shortlisted for the interview.

usually how long will it take for them to inform whether or not I'm shortlisted for interview?

  yeah huge difference.. And attending lots of meetings, lunch and meeting other partners.

so if 2-3 days no respond from them that means I'm not shortlisted for the interview?  or will they inform me also if I'm not shortlisted.

anyway let say i did got shortlisted, can anyone help me with this:
what kind of Tax related question are they gonna ask? it has been 3 years since i last took Taxation subject at school, and I only achieved B+, will that affect the interviewer's perception of me in any way? or will they just judge me on how well i present my self?

I need some advice as I am facing a dilemma

I have worked in a small audit firm for 3 years and had recently completed all my ACCA exams (currently an ACCA affiliate) and waiting for the approval of my ACCA membership. I am planning to leave the firm on December but am not sure how the big-tier firm or the mid-tier firm will offer and what post should I apply for (AA2? SA1, SA2?) as I heard my experience will be significantly discounted. If it is true that I will be offered AA1, I think I shall go to commercial after the approval of my acca membership.

I need the advice from the sifus here.....

  correct. Ive seen staff from medium firm starts all over again. I am talking about 2-3 years in medium firm and well known too.

There is a bandwidth for big 4 payroll. It's unlikely to happen tbh.
