For a girl, look as blur and innocent as possible, maybe a senior dude may approach you.

For a guy, be as macho and imposing to create the power staff image so big teams will grab you.

But to be honest be humble, observant and prudent unless you are highly confident of your abilities.

I don't like ppl who can't think for themselves. I value the ability to solve their own problems, which generally speaking, guys are better at this.
There are a few very lovely female staff who are very capable of solving their own problems too, but these are few and far between smile.gif but when u get them it's really nice smile.gif
*
If the girl got brains + looks + attitude, screw the guys. But i agree they are not many, but when found most really treasure biggrin.gif

Guys are generally ok (rarely got mood swings) but their quality is more varied compared to girls. Some are damn good while some simply vomit blood. But i prefer guys since can talk shit, discuss problem, pijak client, sapu the rubbish, go bar, watch football, play games and talk bout girls (client and internal).

Your last statement indicates like the girl "was" in your team ?

haha..then don't look at young staffs la, 21 yrs old, you don't expect them to be a problem solver right?
yup, an innocent one in my team always ask me the easy thing but quite good for my development, I can know something by teaching to others.
But she is very proactive one la, always ask for new tasks after she have finished, even I am lazier than her. Don't you think guys are more slack than ladies? If the senior doesn't ask the task then they just be quiet and sit to do nothing.
*
I normally guide people who is either older/same age as me. To me age is not an issue as long as willing to learn. If you have some sort of ego then your problem la. If I can learn from a junior about certain skills also, I wouldn't mind cos it will help me. Strangely most if not all the girls in my team are tough like nuts (there is only 2 or 3 dudes) so I never encountered your issue biggrin.gif

Sigh, for some reason the manager has higher expectation of the guys do deliver on work and socially too as in you have to become the bodyguard, chaffeur, despatch, luggage carrier, tapau man and among others.

Personally if that person sit there and do nothing, I will be the first person to grill.

so guys are maid and even more than maid.. always be manipulated by weakness of girls. Chivalry, shitt..
what is the advantage of talking shit? guys who talk shit make me vomit la.. in my team, only me who like football, the other only like watch porn leh.. games also they don't like..
*
I met people from all different culture and background, so just adjust accordingly lo. Find a common ground and build from there. If not its not going to be easy to work until midnight everyday. Guys are expected to be the "gentleman" type. The maid thingy cannot avoid la if you are the youngest male there. Feedback for KPI on the balance le if you get my drill tongue.gif

For some reason, the females in my team are more open of those stuffs than me, so kinda weird.

Haiyo who haven't gone through the "ragging" as juniors. Trust me once they hand out responsibilities, you wish you can go back to the photocopy machines. Imagine that company got over > 100 subs. Moving the box of files is absolute nightmare.

Dear all future Big 4 applicants.

I have a simple request of all of you.
Do learn how to use Ms Excel (at least know basic formulas etc) and Ms Word before you start work. Please.
Don't drive your future seniors up the wall and make us don't want to confirm you.

I don't think I'm asking too much here.

Well, Sometimes, you would just need to be patience..i mean, true that they make mistakes but, if you deal with their mistakes in the correct ways then fine... ive seen some senior who make the hell out of everything and end up making the junior , you know go through the lowest esteem of their life.. some time their talent just needs brush ups like rusted metals... =) for me, i would just explain properly and not go on rage with them =)

Afterall i hear that in the near future that the Juniors will have the power to rate the seniors........ so far heard my firm and a frends co have the proposals d..

Life is cruel especially at the top.
If a junior cannot sustain such a beating then can forget about making it to the top. Sounds harsh but its fair.
The senior will also be assessed on their leasdership and coaching skill but that doesnt justify that the junior can too.
Making mistakes are extremely normal, its expected. But bouncing back from mistake requires guts.

i have been there 3 times include interviews....
not much comment regarding tax jobs, many have said ey better in audit.
if kpmg i could possible stay nearby and walk in 10minits time but cant for ey (quite expensive nearby)

Tax job normally requires you in office as less travelling is required. In that case transport and accomodation is a major concern. Comes to tax, I think Deloitte is the best in Malaysia.

AA1 = Join / 0
AA2 = 1
S1 = 2
S2 = 3
S3/AM = 4
M = 5

Minimum 5 years to be manager unless you double promote.

How transferable are the auditing skills for management consulting?

Would really like to get into strategy consulting one day and found out that there isn't much strategy firms out there.

I am currently trying out the entry levels for every consulting firms that I can find, but I really doubt my chances, particularly in the bulge bracket.

For management consulting I believe auditing does help, but would operational audit help more or is it the same with financial auditing? Would I be able to claim ACCA membership working in the same area?
*
Got a lot of auditing skills but I think should be DEALING and ANALYSIS. You need to be good in networking and capable to talk to different people. Auditors normally interview finance managers or at best CFOs. But consultants can range from CEOs to Datuks. Analysis skills is to help back up your communication skills. Cannot simply talk crap right ?

Not a lot, but the goods ones are not easy to get into like Bain, BCG, McKinsey,.....etc. Can wiki them I guess. I heard their junior paid in USD. Its like triple compared to auditors.

Acca membership I dont think consultant will help, cos its either finance, law or business related, hardly about accounting. I think it will be at much slower rate though. I never heard a management consultant company with ACCA recognition. If you really want a good qualification, think of MBA.
Actually comes to consulting, what they really want is jack of all trades rather than speciallist. Accountant / auditor strikes me more to speciallist type. Of course its just a general stereotype as everyone will not subject to similar treatment.

Haih. Manager just conveniently told me that they are going to burn 2 weeks of my AL.

My previous manager verbally agreed beforehand to let me use 1 week, and at the middle of the project said that he couldn't let me go due to the extended deadline. And my next project begins immediately after the first one ends, which is also another tight deadline project that will end in January.

There goes two weeks of AL, and one week of TOIL which I got while working over Hari Raya + Merdeka hols.

Lesson learnt. Your managers can be like two headed snakes........

It'll depend during the job interview. I know ppl who got 'discounted', and people who didn't.

Ha ha I burn almost all my OTs and going to group trip requires us to take annual leave also. Still better than nothing.......

Thanks for the explanation.

I understand that Big4 prefers their employees to go for 1-2 years of auditing experience before applying for their advisory arm. Wouldn't it a little waste if dealing and analysis is all that is transferable when you have put at least an additional 1 year into auditing, especially when those from elite UK schools gets straight into advisory as fresh grads?

I'm really interested in consulting, wouldn't mind putting my ACCA membership on hold if I do get into consulting, not just MBB, but even the Big4 would be suffice. I will consider an MBA after 3-5 years of working if I get into my choice of school.
*
Emmm, this really depends. But what I generally heard that freshie that joins advisory have very slow learning curve. Sooner or later they will be thrown to audit to learn some stuffs. But this highly depend on which advisory you join. Some have peak periods while some remain constant. But I heard best to join consultancy or advisory after few years of external experience. Thats why you can hear people without business background to become advisors such as doctors, engineers, lawyers,.....etc. Bcos they can advise based on the field of experience.

The transferable skill ai mentioned is only those I think will be most relevant. Of course, I think among all fields, you will learn the most in audit as a freshie which you need to know almost everything out of something. From there you can build you niche, some like to be problem solving auditor, some professional analytical auditor while some just action packed gung ho style.
