how all the sifu here think about 85mm f1.4D?

Bokehlicious and sharpelicious wide open!

It's a lens of heavy damage too. tongue.gif

How is the sharpness? And how if compare to 50mm 1.8D??
*
Not a fair comparison lar...It's like comparing diamonds of different carats. How can you compare a RM4.2k glass to a RM380 glass? tongue.gif

Why said heavy damage so? U means the price? And why can't compare? Means can't use kancil to compare with bmw?

50mm f/1.8D = RM380
85mm f/1.4D = RM4.2K (http://www.nikonusa.com/Nikon-Products/Product/Camera-Lenses/1933/AF-NIKKOR-85mm-f%252F1.4D-IF.html)

Any razor sharp lens for portrait shots? I'm kinda unsatisfied with not-so-sharp kit lens (18-105mm) of mine on D90. Any recommendation and RRP?

50mm f/1.8D! RM380 only.

If 50mm f/1.8d versus 35mm f/1.8g, which one is better for d90?
razor sharp portrait lens

85mm f/1.4G - RM 4.6k
70-200 VRII - RM 6.8k
135mm f/2DC - RM 4.5k
200mm f/2. - RM 16k

Is there any 3rd party equivalent lenses that costs cheaper than these? I broke already... tongue.gif
*
35mm on DX will be 50mm equivalent on FX, so on crop sensor, 50mm will be tighter. I haven't give 35mm a try yet, so I'm not sure about the sharpness.

So far I love my 50mm, unless someone poisoned me with the 85mm f/1.4 epicness. tongue.gif

OK. I got a noob question here. I know expensive lens have sharper image control at larger apertures like f/1.8 or bigger. My cheapo 50mm is only sharp enoough at f/2.8, 85mm at f/1.4 probably can get as sharp as 50mm f/2.8 equivalent.

Just don't understand the concept behind the construction of the glasses, is it due to the optical elements in the lens itself?

Berjaya TimeSquare?
Very true. not much too choose.
Sadly I chosen d3100 without do a lot of research on focus motor area. If I knew it I will go for d90 instead.
Well.. Cannot do anything now. just enjoy in using it.  thumbup.gif
I am considering to buy sigma 50 1.4 HSM as well, well I will definitely go for that one, but still waiting for someone to sell it to me, second hand.
Economy keep on rolling and I keep on broking (not the actual meaning of broking but it's more like broke-ing).  doh.gif

lol... Of course I know in BTS. Just have to ask the Nikon staff to test the lens or they are on the displays or something?

My weirdest problem is whenever I shoot portraits, depending on the size of their eyes. Usually I can get dead on focusing when the girls' eyes are big and wide open. I think probably the light that falls on the face might confuse the AF... sweat.gif

maybe due to the bigger area of contrast (black and white on the eye)

Yeah, so everytime I shoot at 50cm away from the model, almost filled up the frame. At that distance because the eyes are visibly big enough, guaranteed sharp.

So, I am getting sharpness but at the cost of the freedom of framing. sweat.gif

I think the moral of the lesson is just forget bokeh or big aperture. Find some other things to compensate the small aperture, like find better lighting or use one or more flashguns (if you can afford it)
