Hi guys,

Pls advice!!
I just switch over to Unifi VIP 5 Mbps.

I tested via Unifi Speedtest, I can get:-
Download Speed: 4743 Kbps (593 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 4357 Kbps (545 KB/sec transfer rate)

I often use Rapidshare/Hotfile...etc to donload movies...etc. Before switch to Unifi my transfer rate always get around ~120KB/sec.

Unfortunatley after switch to UNIFI, it seems more and more and more slower than that. MAx i can get around 35KB/sec.

I call TM Unifi technical team. According to them since speed test was OK, then it must be the traffic causing this slow transfer rate to that server. BUT I still cannot get it. Why when using streamyx (Package 1Mbps), I always get around 100~KB/sec.
I really dissapointed now caused I need to wait for more than 1 hour for 100mb file.

Please help or advice me if someone had the same problem??

I have something to share with you guys. I'm facing the same problem as stated by rumahadam_afiq and a few others here. So I went thru all 100+ pages of this thread last nite (4hrs!!) and found that no one has done any tests (correct me if I'm wrong but I don't have time to check on prev vers of this thread). So I decided to run some simple tests to check.

Here's the situation. I was a Streamyx 1mb user before (capped at 1.5mb/s), and I was regularly getting 100kB/s from direct download sites like RS, HF, FS etc. After switching to Unifi on 12 Feb (3 days ago), I'm now getting 15-30kB/s. I have tested this on several different direct download servers with different files and the problem is the same. So, it doesn't appear to be due to a "busy server".

My browsing and YouTube speeds are superb, it's only direct download speeds that are affected. I have tested with both Unifi IP ranges 175.xxx.xxx.xxx and 110.xxx.xxx.xxx and the problem remains. My Unifi 5mb speeds should not be lower than my previous Streamyx 1mb speeds. So here's wot I did:

Tests were done on wired connection using CAT6 cable, with no background processes, and with all other PCs in the house shutdown. I used plain vanilla Google Chrome instead of any download managers for a fair result. Files were selected and downloaded using the same sites at 3 different times of the day. As I'm not a premium account holder, all tests were done using Slow/Free downloads and full 500kB/s speeds weren't possible. All were done on the same IP and the range was 110.159.xxx.xxx. Here are the results (click on spoiler for screenies):

Fileserve.com
14 Feb 11pm testfile A: 14.8 kB/s

Here's my Speedtest:
user posted image
My setup:
RG - DIR 615
VDSL - HG 655a
Elevation - 10th Floor Condo
DNS - Google DNS

All direct download sites were heavily throttled at 11pm and 3pm with the exception of Filesonic which we'll take as the reference point. The other 3 download sites have noticeably increased in speed at 4am.

It appears that there is some type of traffic shaping/throttling on my Unifi account. If Unifi is a premium service as advertised, and there is the application of Fair Usage Policy, then there should not be any kind of throttling on my account as I have only just subscribed and am not a heavy downloader previously while using Streamyx.

My Unifi service was installed on 12 Feb 2011, and it is just 3 days old. The so-called FUP states that traffic management will not impact customers who do not exhibit unfair usage behavior. Am I to believe that within these 3 days I have been using the service unfairly? Or has my account been throttled from the beginning?

Bottomline is, I'm now paying for a "premium High Speed Broadband" service that downloads slower than my old Streamyx slowband. I've started the usual round of support reports with the cust care and will update on the outcome. Hope this info helps those of you who are planning to subscribe and it would be good if the rest could run some tests and share the results. Thanks for reading smile.gif

Hoe much more are you paying for your "premium High Speed Broadband" compared to your old Streamyx slowband?

RM19 more?

Yup, that's about right. Paying more and getting less.
