For now, I won't take up Singapore citizenship as it's just too expensive to retire in Singapore. And I reckon it's a better idea to work 10-20 years in SG and retire early back to Malaysia with some serious RM savings converted from SGD. Finding a Singaporean wife or getting a couple more promotions may change my mind though.

But I still like the PR status because it gives me an option if race & religion in Malaysia takes a turn for the worse. And crossing the causeway is the only real viable emergency option if any sudden riots ala Indonesia 1998 happens.

I don't see how Malaysia is better. In Malaysia, you typically have to pay RM1000-1500 more than Singapore for the newer smartphones. And even though you're not on contract, you still have to pay significant monthly subscription and airtime charges no matter how many times you switch. At the end of the day, the immediate cash savings on hardware is way more than the cumulative DIFFERENTIAL between the monthly charges you have to pay - stretched over 2 years.

In any case, there is NO mobile plan in Malaysia that gives you voice (with free minutes and sms) and 12GB of 3.5G HSDPA data for the RM equivalent of S$38*1.07.

ur gf can't get PR or citizenship. u can try apply but the chances are very very slim. But as long as both of you are legally married, you can apply for a long term dependent pass for her in Malaysia.
