Here are some EASYCAP tutorials and guides for you wink.gif (For GRABBER guide, I will post it upon request)

Brief Tutorial on How To Setup (can refer the included English instruction manual)
1. Install driver from CD - after install complete, check got "USB 2861 device" and "USB EMP Audio device" under device manager.
2. Install Ulead software from CD - serial number found on back of CD cover.
3. Run Ulead VideoStudio Editor > Click blue "Capture" button on top > Click "Capture Video" on the panel.
4. Your laptop webcam softwares will probably pop out, just close. (Mine did). Another pop out to detect device/field order will pop out, click ok.
5. Click "Option" on panel > click "Video and Audio Capture Property Settings" > choose composite or s-video for source (depend on how you connect easycap)
6. Choose Pal or NTSC for tv system (I use NTSC)
7. Under Audio device, choose the "USB EMP Audio" and tick "Preview audio with USB device".
8. Change whatever capture resolution/brightness/audio settings as you want or you can watch this video for best quality settings!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ad8Sutjfqk <---- Recommended!!!
9. If success, ENJOY! rclxms.gif or if fail, contact me lor... icon_question.gif

Brief Tutorial on How to create video using Ulead and Easycap:
1. Capture your video with max resolution with start capture and stop capture buttons.
2. Drag the thumbnail of the video to timeline (make sure only one video and not strings of video!)
3. Click on Share tab
4. Click on Create Video File
5. Choose from the menu WMV HD PAL (1280x720, 25fps) or you can make your own profile from Custom/Options.
6. Your mpeg-file video will be converted from DVD format (720x576px) to HD WMV-file (1280x720px). Enjoy! thumbup.gif

How to remove black borders and resize to the HD size with VirtualDub:
Captured with EasyCap DC60+ v3.1B and Ulead VideoStudio 10.
Then I opened it to VirtualDub and removed black borders and resized it to HD size 1280 x 720px. Then I opened it to Windows Live Movie Maker and saved it to WMV HD 1280x720px. Here is a tutorial for VirtualDub:
1. Capture video with the best resolution
2. Open that video to VirtualDub Editor
3. Play video 2-3frames and stop it
4. Click on Video/Filters/Add/null transform/OK/Cropping
5. Drag the every outer side of black borders with mouse toward the video screen so much that black parts are gone
6. Click on OK
7. Click on Filters/Add/Resize/OK/Size Options/New size Absolute/Aspect Ratio Disabled
8. Write New size Absolute 1280 x 720
9. Click on OK
10. Click on OK
11. Click on File/Save as AVI

Here I will compare the two products I'm selling so you can make an informed decision before choosing which to buy! nod.gif

1. EASYCAP DC60+ V3.1C
a) Cheaper!!!
b) Popular capture device!!

2. USB AV GRABBER
a) Component input supported!!!
b) Better video quality!!

Conclusion: flex.gif
If you want to record better quality gameplay videos for current generation consoles (xbox360, ps3, wii), go for GRABBER as it has component input support which render the video produced better in terms of details and colors. Also the component cables is more common than the rare svideo cables for video game consoles. The drawback however, is Grabber has a soft whistling sound in the background. Depends, it may be annoying to some people or you will get used to it. The louder sound of gaming usually making it not obvious, hear it for yourself in my video below.

On the other hand, if you have no need for component input (Ps1, SNES, etc) or better quality, go for EASYCAP as it is cheaper and more widely used by many users. The sharpness and clarity of the fonts can be improved by using svideo cable instead of composite which is on par with the component. So let's see some screenshots to compare!

Top picture: Easycap using composite
Middle picture: Easycap using svideo
Bottom picture: Grabber using component

Sure, I have pm you the details and answers, check your inbox smile.gif As for anyone who want to know the answer to your questions too;

1. No CD/DVD-rom. How?
A: No problem. You can transfer the content of the driver/software CD (429Mb) to a usb storage device (at any public pc or cybercafe) and install from there smile.gif

2. Compatible with PS2?
A: Yes, PS2 composite output > Easycap > usb port on pc/laptop.

3. Experience any lag?
A: Depends on your pc/laptop specs. Check the system requirement in post #1. Or tell me your specs and I predict will lag or not.

Yes, basic EasyCaps (DC60 v2.1a, 2.1b and 2.1c) have poor Philips chipset while genuine EasyCap DC60+ v3.1B or newer EzCAP116 have Empia 2861 chipset (as like almost all Dazzle grabbers have Empia 28xx chipset) with full support to PAL60 and NTSC-433. These EasyCap DC60+ v3.1B and EzCAP116 works also with Mac 10.2 and later with VideoGlide, because that software have inside built drivers for Empia 2861 devices. As for other differences between DC60+ v3.1b and others, here;

Easycap features:
1. Support Mac 10.2-10.5
2. 64bit Drivers
3. Solved SP3 Problem
4. Support PAL60
5. Support NTSC-433
6. Golden RCA
7. Ulead Video Studio 10

Easycap DC60+ v3.1b = all features available! smile.gif Latest version Easycap!
Easycap DC60+ v3.1a = feature 2 and 3 dun have.
Easycap DC60 v2.1c = feature 1 to 5 dun have.

Yes, you should be able to record Astro with it though I have not personally tested it myself since I have no Astro at home. I can try record from a dvd player to show you its video quality if you want smile.gif

Uploaded three more Easycap test recording videos smile.gif

1. 8TV (Malaysia tv channel)

Note: This is an Easycap test recording of 8TV through the tv "monitor out" AV output (red, white, yellow) to a laptop using PAL system and 4:3 ratio. The tv used is a CRT tv with cheap indoor antenna hence the tv reception quality is poor which affect the quality of the recorded video. Also, it's my gaming tv, never watch tv on it before so didn't adjust any contrast/brightness/sharpness settings tongue.gif Please take note if you have Astro/rooftop fish-bone antenna sure better tv reception and better recorded video quality icon_rolleyes.gif

2. TVB dvd

Note: This is an Easycap test recording of TVB dvd through composite AV output (red, white, yellow) to a laptop using PAL system and 16:9 widescreen ratio. You can also change it into 4:3 screen format if you want.

3. Audio quality of my recorded tvb video using Easycap.

Note: The sound of the conversation is clear and loud amid the background music. Good audio quality without stuttering or breaking.

With Easycap, you can edit out your favorite scene of any movie or join multiple scenes of any film to make your own video!! thumbup.gif Any questions, feel free to ask me biggrin.gif

Thanks for your interest and sorry about the late reply, didn't saw your post here, my bad tongue.gif About the sound lag, there is no audio stuttering during previewing but during recording, it does but it stop as soon as you stop recording. However, when you playback your recorded video, the recorded audio is fine, just during recording, video/game may lag a little and audio will stutter smile.gif

Edit: A solution has been discovered and there is now NO MORE audio stuttering during record/preview brows.gif

As I don't have Astro, I can only make speculations on this but I think it's not possible for easycap to record in HD as easycap only have composite and s-video input. You can only use easycap in these ways on Astro.

Method 1: *tv output on the tv*
Connect composite/s-video cable from tv output to easycap for sd recording.

Method 2: *video output on astro box*
Connect composite/s-video cable from astro box to easycap for sd recording.

Look at the input signal to know if can record in hd or not. Normally, if the input signal is only either composite or s-video, it cannot be hd already, just sd quality. If hd quality, must be at least component or hdmi input signal smile.gif A capture card that can record in hd usually cost around RM600-700 or more!!!

If you want to use easycap on a hdmi support hdtv, you will need to spend more around RM200 on getting a hdmi-to-composite/svideo converter and around RM110 for a HDMI splitter.

Then you can hook up the hdmi video source into the spliter so it split into 2 hdmi signals, one goes into the converter to convert to composite/svideo into easycap while the other hdmi signal goes to your hdtv.

Do take note however, that although you can view HD on your hdtv but your recording with easycap will still be in SD quality smile.gif

Here is a sample video by Flarefox13 of his ps3 gameplay video using easycap I sold him on composite connection cool.gif

Bummer, I don't own a Mac so I never test it on a Mac before but what I know is, you can use the same easycap DC60+ v3.1B I'm selling with a Mac but you need a different capture software to run on Apple Mac OS 10.3.9 or later such as VideoGlide instead of Ulead which I can order too smile.gif

So what do YOU think? If you do not have s-video cables for the game console, you will be restricted to composite input quality with Easycap unless you buy Grabber and use its component input for better quality. icon_idea.gif

If you're interested in using your tv as display while recording simulatenously on a pc/laptop, you will need some Y splitters. The splitter is to split the game console source signal (both audio and video) to two different separate signals which you can connect both to the tv and to the capture device. The splitters can work for both composite and component source signal. If you want, PM me to order! laugh.gif Also, if you're looking for component or svideo cable for your game console, you can PM me too! smile.gif

@miadarling: Yes, I believe your laptop specs can support the Easycap/Grabber software. Both are user-friendly devices and there's an English guide included to help you install the driver. After that, it's just plug and play. Also, I can provide support through email/pm if you encounter any trouble. You can even bring your laptop when we cod and I can setup for you! nod.gif PM has been replied too! You're welcome!

Hi Nam, when using the easycap with a s-video cable, only for playing ps3 games on a laptop, not for capturing witch gives better quality, the ezcap or the easycap dc60+ ?? thanks

For better quality on a ps3, in this order, HDMI > Component > S-video > Composite. Since HDMI capture device are expensive, go for Grabber instead with component input support because of more vibrant color control than easycap with s-video. Remember though the ps3 must be set to 480i to display on SD capture device.

Ezcap is just a new name launched by the original company because of a lot of fake easycaps in the market ruining their product name. My Easycap DC60+ is genuine and leftover from the original production and has the same empia 2861 chipset as the newer EzCAP116. On the other hand, Grabber has a newer Empia 28285 chipset which even when both using same composite cable, Grabber has better picture quality than Easycap smile.gif

Thanks for your quick awnser Nam smile.gif when I look at your videos I must say that some easycap videos look more crisp/sharper then the grabber.....is this true or personal ?

When you use it for gameplay only, does it take a lot of the computer ? I have a pentium 1.7 laptop, will it work ?

good comperison site you made, very helpfull.

Depending on your setup, easycap is only limited to composite and s-video input. Some of the sharper easycap video here that you see may be because I'm using s-video cable hence they look almost similar to the Grabber quality but keep in mind that video game console s-video cable are rare in Malaysia and difficult to find one whereas video game console component cable are easier to find in Malaysia. Therefore, if you have easycap and unable to find the console s-video cable, your graphic will not be so sharp as you can only use composite! Grabber allow you to have an alternative option in which is component input where you can buy the console component cable easily.

As for tuning control, I find that Grabber has better adjustment when it comes to contrast, sharpness, color, and brightness than easycap. If in some part of the game where its dark, you can easily adjust the Grabber to be brighter while in easycap, the brightness settings tend to lead to the color appear paler like a shade of white has been applied to it.

When I play game using the capture device, I don't have any antivirus, downloading, or programs running in the background but I'm guessing it should work on your Pentium 1.7 laptop. I still need to know how much RAM and your max display resolution of your laptop before I can confirm. Pm me your laptop specs smile.gif

Thank you. I do intend to provide as much information on the product I'm selling so you can make a good decision! biggrin.gif

Haha.. actually I did read somewhere online that a game company (forgotten what name) has developed a usb portable-size capture device that can record from hdmi but still in testing stage drool.gif As of now, if you can afford to pay more, go for one of these 3 devices for HD recording which are Hauppauge HD PVR or Avermedia DarkCrystal HD or Intensity Shuttle USB 3.0! These are powerful capture devices that can enable you to play your xbox360 on laptop at 1080i HD, just expect to pay about RM700-900 for one! shocking.gif But unless you're a pro, you probably would have benefited more from using that money to buy a 32" or 40" hdtv instead, right? icon_rolleyes.gif

Right now, I am using my Grabber to play my xbox360 on my office cheapo desktop pc during those boring night shift when boss not around.. hehe brows.gif

That EasyCap DC60 v2.1C in the above link is earlier version which does not support 60Hz games. If you want 60Hz support for xbox360, get from me either Easycap DC60+ v3.1b or Grabber, both support 60Hz smile.gif

Hello! The main difference between them is Easycap support only svideo (black) and composite (red, white, yellow) only while Grabber support all that plus additional Component input (red, green blue) which give better picture quality especially in gaming console. Furthermore, Grabber has a newer chipset inside which produce overall better picture quality than Easycap and a better color control scheme. Both support Win 7 as both are latest versions smile.gif

Sorry for late reply, currently in Singapore. Difficult to get online here, very strict rules in training camp.

Between Easycap DC60+ v3.1B and Grabber, Grabber has better video quality especially if you use component input for xbox360 or ps3, you will see more and sharper details rendered, better color contrast especially for darker games and more user friendly software. For ps2, to get better graphic, you need ps2 s-video cable which you can use on Easycap/Grabber and if you have ps2 component cable, you can use Grabber only as Easycap has no support for component cable.

Checkout the comparison shot of ps2 between Grabber and Easycap on post#45 on page 3 of my thread here http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1658512/+40 Even when both devices on ps2 connected using standard composite (red, white, yellow), Grabber graphic is nicer. Your laptop specs should be able to handle both software no problem.

At the moment, I'm out of stock for both devices. Need to reorder and it may take 2-3 weeks for me to be able to deliver it to you as I need to wait for shipping to me and for me to return to Malaysia to send it out. COD in Melaka not possible, sorry bro. Sms me which one you want so I can order it. My phone number already pm you, check your inbox. Thank you smile.gif

PM replied. Yes, you can connect your ps3 to laptop but do remember the ps3 graphic display will be in 480i SD and will not be in HD with Easycap because it only support s-video or composite connection.

If you want better graphic, Grabber can support component but still need to be in 480i SD, it just that the colour contrast and sharpness is better with component cable.

At post #53 here http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1658512/+40 you can see some sample recorded video of ps3 using Grabber on component smile.gif

Latest updates on comparison videos and pictures review captured by me!!!

Okay, before we start, do take note that my latest videos and pictures posted from this page 5 onward has been rendered and edited to produce better quality unlike all the previous older raw videos and pictures I posted before this page 5 that are not edited in any ways. PM me if you're interested to know more about how I got this quality or know how to further improve it. Here are comparison shots between Easycap (Composite) on the left vs Grabber (Component) on the right from a DVD9 source recordings. Grabber wins this one with deeper details and colors enhanced by the component obviously.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

But wait, what if we use composite instead of component on both devices? Easycap is the better than Grabber when using composite with less blurry and sharper frames here. Left is Easycap, right is Grabber, both on composite.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Surprising, huh? Grabber on composite is worse than Easycap. Remember the right choice of device for the right type of connection, component or composite and what are you using it for make a BIG difference. To illustrate what I said, here are two more samples taken from same Grabber device, but the left picture is component vs composite on right.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Conclusion: For a DVD9 source, best quality in this order: Grabber Component > Easycap Composite > Grabber Composite

Full videos here: (Please change Youtube quality settings to match the intended video resolution)
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Depending on what you're watching on, 720p is good for monitor/tv while 360p/480p is good for mobile phones/psp. Also, do note that the actual quality of the video clip is slightly sharper than what seen on Youtube. Here are 2 photos of them before and after uploading to Youtube for comparison. The left image is Youtube and the right is the actual movie clip.

How come Grabber only support upto 576? Component cables should be able to support 720p right?

Yes, component cable is able to support 720p HD but Grabber is still a SD capture device despite being able to support component input. It records max at 576p PAL or 480o NTSC but you can render the recorded videos to 720p or 1080p HD if you want to watch on big screen. Nevertheless, everything still look better with component input on Grabber. Check out my next comparison post for gaming smile.gif

Conclusion: For Xbox 360 source, best quality from highest to lowest: Grabber Component > Easycap S-Video> Grabber S-Video > Grabber Composite > Easycap Composite

This is purely my opinion and may subject to differ entirely from yours. When both on rca composiite, I find Grabber seems to have slightly sharper and clearer texts than Easycap. However, the texts on composite is still not clear for heavy reading. On the other hand, when both on s-video, Easycap seems to me is slightly sharper than Grabber. The texts is clear and details are sharper on S-Video hence if you can, always use to S-Video instead of composite on both devices for better improvement. Lastly, Grabber component is the best because it has the sharpest and best color control than S-video or composite. That's all, folks. Thanks for reading! smile.gif

I know how that feel, bro. 720p HD capture devices is more powerful but can cost from RM450-700 with the popular one being Hauppauge HD PVR, Blackmagic Intensity, Avermedia Game Capture HD and Elgato Game Capture HD. I have little knowledge in them though simply because I never have one to play with sad.gif You can read some reviews online or watch youtube videos for their video quality.

Avermedia Game Capture HD review

Blackmagic Intensity review

Elgato Game Capture HD review

As for SD devices, there are other brands like Dazzle, Roxio and Elgato but I think it's more or less on par with Easycap except Grabber has slight advantage of having component input smile.gif

I'm not sure about this but normally not. The recordings you made will be store in the pc/laptop internal HDD/external HDD/USB flashdrive you attached to, not in the capture device itself as it has no internal storage. Except for Avermedia which is a standalone capture device, there's a slot on the underside of the unit where a basic 2.5" SATA hard drive can be inserted but I'm not sure if the HDD is included or you have to buy separately smile.gif

Ah, I see. Perhaps some sellers might sell with a hdd together as a package at discounted price. I haven't been to Lowyat lately so no clue if they do sell them locally or not. Hopefully some shops will import them smile.gif

@ps3roxor: If you cannot get audio in your recording, there are multiple reasons for it. One, you need to know if your recording device is genuine or not as the fake ones has different chipset inside so the audio drivers you're using may have conflict with the device. Second, it could be your software settings is not properly setup. Third, your cable connection is loose or faulty cable problem. You should check back with the seller about your audio problem smile.gif

Sorry, I'm out of stock for Grabber right now but if you're willing to wait about 2 weeks, I can order it for you. COD is preferable in Ampang, if not, inside any STAR lrt station. Sent you a PM smile.gif

Also to anyone looking for Easycaps, I only sell genuine Easycap DC60+ v3.1C with empia 2861 chipset inside. You can rest assured mine won't be a fake like SMI Grabber as I have sold plenty. Check my thread for credibility from my previous customers nod.gif

Hello,

I know from previous comments that you're selling Easycap and Grabber. Just want to know that currently which one you're selling? Also, seems like Grabber is a better choice for better result..

Thanks!
