Anyone here has any bad experiences with Microsoft Security Essentials? The thing is I've been using this for more that a year and have not encountered any problems. Was thinking whether I should get/buy a better AV or not.

yeah i've been using it for 6 months and it seems to serve me pretty well except that it isn't as protective as i think. I bought kaspersky 2011. Kaspersky detected virus while miscrosoft essential did not.

MSE saved me a few times already from websites dropping exploits to freeware installers forcing ad programs to my pc. i actually even try running files i know contains virus just to see if it can catch it. that's how confident i am with MSE on Win7.

XP is another story. i still use other AV for it, the OS is just not as secure as Vista/7 so i still protect it with Kaspersky or Avira

No negative feedback besides from rubrubrub? Or is it because no one is using MSE?

No problem what so ever since Alfa, Beta and Final release.
Since MSE, many legit Windows user has no longer the need to purchase any other AV. It does what it says it does, period.

If you're using legit Windows, and MSE is free, and Windows 7 itself comes with myriad of security features, why would you pay for AV?

MSE is good, user interface is clean, light on memory usage, detection are pretty good and its one of the Microsoft product.

but there's nothing wrong if u wanna use paid version of AV as long as u feel worth it..

MSE is an average antivirus for me, for free antivirus, i rank it 3rd after avast n avira, but it consumes the least memory among all, vy small footprint, suitable for evy1.

Well because im used to light ones like Avast! 5, Avira and Panda Cloud.. It's not that high roughly around ~60MB for all its processes..

Thanks.. But somehow I feel the free version of these AV's somehow is lacking something, especially since they have a paid version available..

well for Avast! 5 Free it's fully fledged as well as Panda Cloud AV Free

Avast! 5 Pro you get the sandbox.
Avast! 5 Internet Security you get extra feature like sandbox and firewall.

Panda Cloud AV Pro you get to unlock the behavorial analysis and automatic USB Vaccination.

Avira would be the one lacking of components like web guard and ProActiv(Behavior Analysis) which is only paid version.

So normally I install Avast! 5 Free for my friends smile.gif

Yes it is bro, just make sure you have on-demand scanner like MBAM and SuperAntiSpyware for your computer, they come in handy when any realtime Antivirus/IS missed something smile.gif
