i thought at first it should have been yellow but after watching the replay, i think maybe it could have been either red or yellow. probably howard webb initial view was Gerrard's two footed lunges.

regarding that penalty, it was a soft one. other referee might have ruled that one out.

This kind of decision is hard to make. Not protecting my own club it could be genuine painful for carrick and ref see got two thus he decided it. I also surprised it was a red cos it didn't look much to me at first.
