Want to ask sifus here about walkie talkies. According to the Fifth Schedule of http://www.skmm.gov.my/link_file/registers..._April_2010.pdf , which frequencies does not require a paid licence? Does the UHF 477MHz Citizen's Band 5W PRS does not require a paid licence? And technically speaking, transceivers that are able to tune to other frequencies (from digital PMR446 to 477 Family Band [still searching for a trasceiver that goes from 440 to 480]), do they contravene the law? [based upon MCMC ciplak freq allocation regs, you can get a local company to manufacture walkie talkies tuned to European and Australian free-to-use freqs, and market them to the tourist sector!]

but not sure about australia..because the band implementation is quite different.

Yeah, I thought the 477Mhz Australian band was exactly the same, I checked it out and apparently Australian freq ranges that are concurrent to Malaysian ones are only from 477.0125 to 477.4125. The Australian UHF CB starts in 476Mhz. But at least they can transmit up to 5W on all their channels, as opposed to the restriction on our Family Band, and PMR channels. Still, I was thinking of buying a programmable UHF walkie-talkie that allows me utilise the legal 446 and 477 channels, but I donno what customs regulations are (probably require SIRIM certification I guess [which by the way, is a joke]).

my opinion the pmr446 is quite useless

It's only useful in the fact that retail walkie talkies made for the European market are limited to these channels so it's easier to sell them legally here (without needing to make different frequency-tuned models). As well as marketing the fact that we have a European-friendly walkie talkie environment useful for all those Euro-tourists). Functionally-wise, not so much.
