QUOTE(Gen-X @ May 27 2006, 06:58 AM) Ermm for amps I think it would be better to get it herelar, as I've read, the Vox amps have a little reliability issue, so in case *touch wood* of getting a defect unit, you could return the amp without much trouble. Plus, I got my AD50VT for RM1100 during the sale, so you could probably talk the guy into lowering the price?? Just my 0.5cent worth, have fun in SG! Oh, when you son's old enough to work part-time, make him pay for his own gear or most of it. This post has been edited by led_zep_freak: May 27 2006, 10:14 AM |

Marshall amps are the bomb, but this statement only applies to the higher end ones.
As for the MG & AVT series, well put it this way, if Marshall is serious about giving young guitarists good tone to play with, they should remove them from their product range. At low volumes, they sound pretty alright I guess, but when turned up, just terrible. I love the AD50VT mainly because of the vintage amp tones, I'm not sure if your son is into stuff like that, but if he is then look no further. I can't really comment much on the distortion/modern amp models, other than that they sound pretty decent and usable. Perhaps members like Sean, nerd and nick_drake could provide better insights that I could, but if anything, check out sean's clips posted in the fanclub thread, it should give you an idea how the distortion channel sounds like. EDIT : Wow, you guys reply pretty fast LOL! This post has been edited by led_zep_freak: May 29 2006, 12:55 AM |

QUOTE(blacktrix @ May 29 2006, 08:09 AM) Err seriously, you should take a look at ENGL, Diezel, Cornford or even the MESA MARK IV! Gen-X, what type of music/bands does your son listen to??? |

Well the Squier strats are pretty good guitars for the price but they're not really consistent, quality-wise. Try a few models you could get your hands on (The Guitar Store has some Squiers too) and pick the best from them.
Btw, almost every strat copy can perfectly fit any brand of singlecoil pickups available in the market. This post has been edited by led_zep_freak: Jun 11 2006, 07:20 PM |

QUOTE(Eunose Roadster @ Jun 11 2006, 07:33 PM) Quality Wise? You mean that it's not standard? I understand its an off-model of Fender but can it be that bad? Heh why not? No matter what guitar you buy, you have to check for flaws first.Where's the Guitar Store anyway... There's a branch in Damansara Perdana and another in Sri Petaling. |

QUOTE(hydrogen @ Jul 2 2006, 05:50 PM) my college wants to purchase music instruments: they gave a budget of RM5000 and ask us to get: 1. Not too sure about drums... A standard set with a snare, 2 toms, 1 floor tom, 1 ride, 1 crash, 1 hi-hat shouldn't cost too much. 1. a drum set 2. a bass 3. a bass amp 4. a guitar amp can be second hand, but must be quality stuff. please offer suggestions! 2. I guess you can't go far wrong with SX bass, low-priced yet plays well sounds decent. Might need a proper setup though. 3. So far I have only played with a Behringer amp and it's pretty solid. Not sure which model but it has a modern touch in its tone. 4. I wanted to suggest a tube amp but since the budget's pretty tight... How about a Vox AD amp? |

QUOTE(hydrogen @ Jul 2 2006, 07:21 PM) Practice + Performances. We're on a tight budget. np... anyway imo the snare and toms should be decent sounding. If the budget permits, invest a little more on a good pair of cymbals. A good crash and ride could improve the overall sound of performances + practices while on the other hand, a screwed-up sounding crash will almost screw up everything. Just ask those who used to practise at Black Widow. But the instruments no need to be so important, as most of the students will be using our own instruments. Except the drums. so the drums and the amps must be good. Vox AD amps, huh? okay, okay, will look into it. and SX Bass? I figured Tama basic set should be around RM2500, and RM1000 for the Bass, then RM1500 for a bass amp and a guitar amp. should be quite okay, right? ps: thanks LedZep. |

Read the review in Guitarist today, apparently it packs volume in it. Not sure how it fares against the Microcube though.

This discussion is going no where...
Guitar weight - some like it, some don't but don't mind getting used to it, some likes it for the little extra sustain, some hate it etc. In the end it boils down to preference, nuff said. |

QUOTE(noisetrigger @ Sep 21 2006, 07:12 PM) But the discussion here is not about preference. Someone liking a heavier guitar doesn't change the fact that heavy guitars are heavy and uncomfortable. And this discussion won't change that fact either.Someone prefering heavy guitars are fine but let's not make it sound like those who do not prefer it are wussies or weak. Nobody's making it sound like a wussy or weak here, dude. |

QUOTE(noisetrigger @ Sep 21 2006, 08:53 PM) We can tell whether one guitar is heavy or not by comparing it with others. I think we can safely say that the average weight that is common to guitar players should be in the 2kg+- range, which is the weight of a Strat. Since we can safely say that the strat and it spin offs are the most played guitar in the world, guitars heavier than the strat will easily be perceive as heavy to the average guitar player. And what you've said doesn't change the fact that your discussion is going no where. As for the weightlifter analogy, it's a bad one cause they trained for that but last time I check, playing the guitar is not lifting weights. Sure at the end of the day, some people are willing to live with the weight, so more power to them. But doesn't change the fact that LPs are just heavy and not the most comfortable guitar to play for long hours. And you must be very ignorant not to get his weightlifter example, what he meant was a weightlifter who has gotten used to a 60kg barbell would not find a problem with it while someone who isn't will probably not. Well put it this way, a tuba player would have gotten used to the weight of a tuba but if I ask you to carry one while marching, you would have problems because you're not used to the weight. |

They won't have 36D wanlar... it's the bust measurement against the tummy, so if the bust is 36, it wouldn't be D anymore.
Somehow, I have a feeling that theWhacker is somewhere here waiting for us to post more before he could own all of us at one shot. Somehow...... |
