Yeah, they marked up the price alr... most of us gotten our ADs end of last year when they were having this year-end sales heh. RM450 for the 15 and RM900 for the 30, what could be better?

Ermm for amps I think it would be better to get it herelar, as I've read, the Vox amps have a little reliability issue, so in case *touch wood* of getting a defect unit, you could return the amp without much trouble. Plus, I got my AD50VT for RM1100 during the sale, so you could probably talk the guy into lowering the price??

Marshall amps are the bomb, but this statement only applies to the higher end ones.

As for the MG & AVT series, well put it this way, if Marshall is serious about giving young guitarists good tone to play with, they should remove them from their product range. At low volumes, they sound pretty alright I guess, but when turned up, just terrible.

I love the AD50VT mainly because of the vintage amp tones, I'm not sure if your son is into stuff like that, but if he is then look no further. I can't really comment much on the distortion/modern amp models, other than that they sound pretty decent and usable. Perhaps members like Sean, nerd and nick_drake could provide better insights that I could, but if anything, check out sean's clips posted in the fanclub thread, it should give you an idea how the distortion channel sounds like.

Err seriously, you should take a look at ENGL, Diezel, Cornford or even the MESA MARK IV! Everyone has their own taste and preference.

Well the Squier strats are pretty good guitars for the price but they're not really consistent, quality-wise. Try a few models you could get your hands on (The Guitar Store has some Squiers too) and pick the best from them.

Btw, almost every strat copy can perfectly fit any brand of singlecoil pickups available in the market.

Heh why not? No matter what guitar you buy, you have to check for flaws first.

There's a branch in Damansara Perdana and another in Sri Petaling.

IIRC, MAS doesn't offer not efx pedals.

I suggest you check out CK Music, they usually have a healthy dose of Zoom pedals on display.

1. Not too sure about drums... A standard set with a snare, 2 toms, 1 floor tom, 1 ride, 1 crash, 1 hi-hat shouldn't cost too much.
2. I guess you can't go far wrong with SX bass, low-priced yet plays well sounds decent. Might need a proper setup though.
3. So far I have only played with a Behringer amp and it's pretty solid. Not sure which model but it has a modern touch in its tone.
4. I wanted to suggest a tube amp but since the budget's pretty tight... How about a Vox AD amp?

np... anyway imo the snare and toms should be decent sounding. If the budget permits, invest a little more on a good pair of cymbals. A good crash and ride could improve the overall sound of performances + practices while on the other hand, a screwed-up sounding crash will almost screw up everything. Just ask those who used to practise at Black Widow.

Read the review in Guitarist today, apparently it packs volume in it. Not sure how it fares against the Microcube though.

Guitar weight - some like it, some don't but don't mind getting used to it, some likes it for the little extra sustain, some hate it etc. In the end it boils down to preference, nuff said.
