If you're playing alot of metal, or anything with lots of distortion, go for a solid body. A semi-hollow produces way too much feedback for those kinds of music. Yes, there are exceptions (like Wes Borland who now switched to a Semi-Hollow), but they have a massive rack of equipment with noise-gates and all that.....

If you're playing mostly clean, then if controlled well, a semi-hollow will sound lovely.

Let me know who they are and I'll buy 'em off!
P-90s are BEAUTIFUL pickups if you're playing clean.....

But if you plan to get a Les Paul not because of the pickups, then go for at least an Epi Les Paul Custom........

Yeah....... I love me some P-90.
I wouldn't mind buying a Gold Top JUST for the P-90s.

Actually, have to agree with Everdying...... Get an SG.....

It's quite versatile, and able to play all of the above and more......

The G-400 is an EXCELLENT choice.....
Pair it up with a JB/Jazz Duncan combo Humbuckers....... Totally sweet.

I would go for the SX....
If you want a brand name? Go for a Yamaha Pacifica. Lots of LYN users here swear by their pacifica.

And not just that...... carrying it back from Singapore also quite troublesome with a guitar, amp and all that......

Buy it from CK Music here and be done with all the trouble.

Wah......... your daughter has TASTE!!!!

But of course, a Gibson will quadruple your budget already...

Cheapest decent Gibson is already at the USD900 Price mark....... and that's for the LP Menace.... LP Standard...... and you're looking at 2300USD.....

Hmmmmmmmm....... maybe the Gibson LP Junior at USD750....... but I would top up USD 50 more and get an Epiphone Zakk Wylde Les Paul Custom....... but that's just me.

Why don't you compromise and get her an Epiphone Les Paul Standard instead? Decent enough, around RM1700 if you hunt around and it still retains the Gibson-esque quality.......

That's true. I also see a Gibson as a heirloom...... it's value will only increase with each passing of generation.....

Buy one, and you pass it to your daughter. Your daughter will pass it to her son. Her son will pass it to his daughter. His daughter will pass it to her son......
So on and so forth....

If I buy a Gibson Les Paul, it'll be MY family heirloom and will pass it to my children................

.................. when they can pry it off my cold stiff fingers!!!
