hi all sifus,

Have been trying to read thru all the postings starting from v2, but the 129 pages of info + with all those external information from v2 just clogged my brain, so I finish v3 instead.

Anyway, I have been wondering how it feels to control a RC heli, have been wanting to get one for a long time dy, and now I finally decided ... smile.gif, I am not so keen about toy grade but I am just too new/fresh into hobby grade, anyway ..

I am looking for:

1. RC Heli that can use for indoor as well as outdoor, indoor for training first, then outdoor for the real thing .. tongue.gif ... I will give outdoor higher priorities if I can't get both ... err, does those heli with simulator mode really helps for training?

2. can do more stunts with good precise control so that I won't get bored so fast with only up, down, left, right ... tongue.gif >> this depends on the rx/tx right? and more channel = more action/stunts? What is the minimum channel to start with?

3. easy to find spare parts for repair and upgrade, and of course hopefully not too expensive on the parts

4. What are the other things that I should take note before deciding on which heli to purchase.

I am basically open to anything since I have not much clue about this hobby and I have not decided on anything yet.

Cheers.

what is your budget ??
u must be ready to face lots of frustration and repair/setup work ...
*
Hmm ... budget ... lets say for a starting probably I can throw in RM1K ...

By the way, was also wondering those heli selling in some stalls/small shops in malls, I guess those are from China, do you all even think worth to look at for starting? or it is better to get it from some real RC shops?

I guess u might b a photographer, hehehe ur models r so sexy ...
Go for trex 550e if possible, but that would roughly cost u more than rm4000 if u have nothing at all.
It should be a nice heli but I din own it since I have replaced it with an apple .....
*
err... not really a photographer, just a hobbyist.

anyway, RM4000 is out of my budget, I already have too many very expensive hobby, I will probably prefer to start with something lower first, not too sure how far I could go, but I would also like to reserve the possibility of going further.

any suggestion?

Quite a lot of people starts with lama. But I start with those china made coaxial heli too. Then straight into 6 channels.
It is really recommended to get a simulator though.
*
I have seen you all use this term <coaxial heli> ... but I could not figure it out what does it mean? and what is the difference of it with others.

Do you mind to explain a bit more?

Thanx.

Got it, thanx.

But what is the main difference of this coaxial heli with the other types (if it has a name for it ... tongue.gif) ... more stable on the flights?

Hi .. thanx for the answer and this is good stuff ...why not copy-paste some of the info and put it on the first post of each version? just a suggestion, this should help reduce noobs question for beginner like me ... tongue.gif

For beginners like me who stumble upon this kind of thread will definitely want to start reading from post #1, but may not continue till the end due to the vast number of pages/posts. i.e 129 pages of v2 .. I stopped at page 20+, paiseh.

anyway, back to FP and CP ... how do I differentiate it from the physical checking? or from the specification?

Coz I am planning to go check out Dragon Mart, a mall just for selling Chinese products and goods, I've seen many shops there selling those china made RC heli ... wanna do some survey and comparison, before I go to the real RC hobbyist shop.

Added on January 16, 2011, 2:34 pmFound the following information about the FP vs CP:

http://www.helifever.com/fixed-pitch-vs-collective-pitch.php

so now I know how to differentiate.. smile.gif

So actually there are quite a lot of information around, if you want to fasest response, google is your buddy.
*
Yeah, trying to read more before deciding and make my purchase, to avoid getting a heli that does not suit me ... smile.gif

Now I wonder those Chinese made heli ... have you all come across any CP single rotor heli that comes with simulators ... tongue.gif ... and worth buying for beginners since china made stuff should be cheaper so starting costs will be much lower, or am I dreaming too much?

Just dont get beltcp. You will regret. Play 1 time crash, buy spareparts (hard to get). Fix...play and crash, buy spareparts, fix again crash and keep in store bcoz no money to buy spareparts. Dont believe? Ask ccfook szabo. tongue.gif

Added on January 16, 2011, 4:36 pmBut last time i advice this guy, told him dont buy bcoz he will crash it and keep it in store bcoz spareparts is expensive, but got another pro-flyer tell him, just buy ( he himself cant do anything with beltcp except hover and crash)

So this guy bought beltcp, and love his belt cp, complaint on where to get spareparts, crash and keep it on store.

This is based on true story.

Hehehe. Fireman works 1day 2day off..so got alot of time.
*
Hi sLapshock,

thanx for the headsup.

QUOTE(daddoo @ Jan 16 2011, 05:38 PM)
Hard to say lah, there was also a pro-flyer too, complaint on the Trex 450 Pro and gave very very bad comments but keep on complimenting on HK450 heli only.

I don't have 450 Pro before but from a lot of persons, they all quite happy with that heli actually lah, nothing to demand based on the price pay. Same to BCP actually, just check from the discussions from foreign forum, like helifreak, heliguy, I think their opinion is more neutral.

Follow your own preference sweeann and survey more to make your own decision, dun just listen to non-sense ....... huahahahhahaha
*
Hi daddoo,

But the T-Rex 450 Pro does look sexy, at least to me ... dunno got chance to fly it or not ... tongue.gif (without crashing it ... T__T)

Yeah, still doing more survey, have not got the chance to go to Dragon Mart yet, as it is quite far from my place, need to drive at least 30 minutes in high speed to reach there ...O_o

There is also a professional hobby shop in Dubai Mall where they sell a lot of cars, planes, heli and even boats ... will check that shop after I am done with Dragon Mart, so that I can compare and evaluate the choices I have in terms of quality and price.

QUOTE(ccfook2123 @ Jan 17 2011, 02:03 AM)
i dont have single complain on belt cp really
you really SIBUK
i never said i cant find parts, i know where to get really
i asked so to get info where to get cheap parts for heli

its  so normal for something HOT to out of stock
are you too stupid to understand this?
hey sweeann, just buy famous brand heli as i said
start with 4 channel first to see if you really like this hobby
4 channel can last you a few months d
*
Hi ccfook2123,

Seriously, I do not know what brand is available here, as I have yet to start my real hunting yet, so far, have been only doing reading and readings, but from the shops I seen in Dragon Mart, those are mostly china made stuff, dun think those are even branded ...T__T ... but let me do more survey on the choices I have here first ... : )

QUOTE(QiW @ Jan 17 2011, 12:03 PM)
just buy a honeybee FP if u feel like a challenge
if u are just trying out whether u will like it or not .. then a LAMA will do fine and cheap
a BCP is a matter of taste and budget ... most with higher budget will tend to avoid the BCP but some have succeeded to a level with it and some have failed
everything is entirely up to u ... but if possible go to a flying field nearest to u and talk to the ppl flying there for more personalised advice and guidance
*
Hi QiW,

I definitely would prefer some challenges, that is why I would prefer to leave the option to go further if I really like this hobby .. smile.gif, but I am too in a bit of dilemma on what to get:

1. easy to start/learn and cheaper but cannot go far heli, and then buy a 2nd more pro heli when ready; or
2. straight to a pro heli that is ready for all kinds of stunt with simulation mode, so that I can do the training in simulation mode first before the real flight

1st choice I will start cheap (RMx), and have a choice to stop if I dowan to proceed, and I end up only wasted 1 cheap heli, but if I decide to proceed, then I will end up aving 1 cheap heli + 1 pro heli (costs RMx + RMy), may still get a simulator for more difficult practice as well (RMz)

2nd choice I will start with higher costs, 1 pro heli + 1 simulator (RMy + RMz), and if I decide to stop, higher costs wasted, if I decide to proceed, save on 1 cheap heli.

>> but if possible go to a flying field nearest to u and talk to the ppl flying there for more personalised advice and guidance

I do not know anyone who is flying here in Dubai, and I dunno where they fly also ... sad.gif

I don't know who is he talking about lah, but definitely not us ......  icon_rolleyes.gif

I am satisfied with my BCP too and now I can handle the sport flying quite well ...... most of the time the quality of a heli does matter but also there are some other factors behind, like how you doing the setup or the skill of the flyer. All I can say that, with very limited budget BCP can still doing its job nicely but don't expect it to fly like a T-Rex or Logo!

If someone is sure that they will live long with this hobby, go for the ultimate one  rclxms.gif
The most important thing is to practice intensively in the simulator or else there is no use with super-good heli too .....  thumbup.gif
*
Hi daddoo,

Hmm .... yeah, one of my problem is I do not know whether I will go how far in this hobby, as I have yet to try it out, if I have already try out and have decided, I will definitely know what I am looking for and how much money I should throw in.

hmmmmm .... after some deep thought, I think I will proceed with option 1, and only decide whether I want to proceed or not, I do not want to get a pro heli but end up a white elephant and become a deco only in my living hall.

QUOTE(ccfook2123 @ Jan 17 2011, 12:40 PM)
i didnt recommend BCP  cause it is not a good heli for beginner
if you buy BCP, you get what you paid for, if you expect more than that, just go for other heli, i dont know why BELT CP popped out.....

just like, if you buy proton, you dont expect Mercedes feel
remember to buy 4 channel at least
as SIFU QIW said, buy honeybee FP if you like challenge, go for ESKY coaxial if you want a reasonable price heli, good performance heli that worth its price to me,not forgot to mention, ESKY coaxial heli quite durable,  easy to find spareparts, upgrade parts with reasonable price and very stable too

im a newbie too, so together we can learn, come to this thread always, BADDOO and QIW is always here to help

Hi ccfook2123,

at least 4 channel, hmmm ... I seen most of those chinese heli are of 3.5 channel only in Dragon Mart, but I only did a glance and did not actually go in and ask the shop keeper, dunno they got 4 channel and above one or not ... sad.gif

Really have to go there again one day and spend some time doing survey and talk to them.

Please watch out that most of the 3.5ch heli from China is using Infrared. Should be those you have seen, those are considered toy-grade rc heli so if possible go for at least 4ch heli using RF to control. I think it is more fun to fly. I have one 3.5ch heli at home but it is not flyable anymore, it uses AA size battery to charge up from the transmitter.

I am agree to you that Trex 450 Pro is sexy but you have to pay a little more to play. The price of the heli is not really expensive but that's only for a heli, you need to get your own Tx/Rx, batteries and charger separately, tools to build the heli as well.
*
Okay, will be careful with those 3.5 channel ones...

Was looking at the T-REX 450 from rcsmart, the one selling at RM1350 Super Combo set also din come with TX/RX, right? Coz I could not find it in the list:

ALIGN T-REX 450 SPORT Kit with Brushless Motor & Esc
https://www.rcsmart.com.my/webshaper/store/...roductItem=3008

RM 1000.00 RM 690.00

ALIGN T-REX 450 PRO Kit with Brushless Motor & Esc
https://www.rcsmart.com.my/webshaper/store/...roductItem=3007

RM 1050.00 RM 790.00

ALIGN T-REX 450 PRO Super Combo
https://www.rcsmart.com.my/webshaper/store/...roductItem=2377

RM 1350.00

If there is a need to get a TX/RX, what do you all recommend? If possible the TX should be compatible with for Simulator, so that I can get familiarize with the same TX.

Another question, normally no heli comes bundle with simulator?

To get all in a package I think only Lama has ..... including simulator.

ALIGN T-REX 450 PRO Super Combo - it only include just the heli and electronics. For example, servo, gyro, ESC, motor and the kit. It does not give you any other things. So for this combo you have to buy your own Tx/Rx, battery and charger.

Remember that T-Rex Pro and T-Rex Sport is not the same but both are 450 size.

If want to get a economical Tx/Rx you may want to consider what Qiw has recommended, should be Futaba 6EX.

okay okay ... thanx for the info ... smile.gif

Added on January 17, 2011, 9:25 pmBy the way, what do you guys think of a summarize of information for beginners on the 1st post of each thread?

I can help out a bit now since I am a beginner and I am looking for all kinds of information.

It would be good to have many useful information on the first page for beginners like me to do the reading, instead of browsing through 129 pages ... tongue.gif, and to avoid you all to keep answering the same question again and again.

Let me know what do you guys think, okay?

me oso ... normally most (99%) ppl will start with COAXIALS (me included) coz cheap and no worries about crashing it too much
and if u dont like it then u dont waste much $$$
*
I still have not got the time to go to Dragon Mart and Dubai to check out what options/brands I have, can only go this weekend, hopefully I can find something nice for me to start with.

If not have to buy from Malaysia and bring it over to Dubai dy.

QUOTE(daddoo @ Jan 19 2011, 03:29 PM)
Hmmmm, it should be fun to fly in Dubai.
But here in Penang there are not much choices you have, it is not easy to find one around my living area.
*
Dunno ... still never fly here before ... tongue.gif

But I also thinking about the location, originally I though of driving into the desert and fly it from there, so even if crash also at least not hard ground, but read somewhere it is not advisable to fly the heli on dirt area, as it could get into the mechanical part of the heli. So I guess I will need to think of a place to fly once I got the heli.

QUOTE(QiW @ Jan 19 2011, 05:35 PM)
heli dont need hig space ... so still ok
planes sure die coz need serious space .. hahahahaha
luckily my area still got space ... but dunno when it will be gone coz the housing development catching up really fast where i fly
*
Where do you fly your plane/heli wor?

QUOTE(daddoo @ Jan 19 2011, 08:15 PM)
Yaloh, 450size heli cannot b seen clearly after 100 meters approximately.
Those 550, 600, 700 dun know can go how far. But I think heli is not for flying far, it is more for 3d nowadays.
*
Yeah, I am thinking if I decided to get the pro heli, I am eye-ing on the T-REX 450.

By the way, the normal TX/RX can go how far huh?

How much is the difference for a 6-channel and 7-channel?

By the way, besides the following online stores:

graffititoys.com - http://graffititoys.com/ContactUs.html
rcsmart - http://www.rcsmart.com.my/index.asp
mymegastation - http://mymegastation.com/t1/home.php

Any other that I missed out? I mean local malaysian stores.

hi all,

sorry for the late reply ... was busy with work

anyway, bought 2 heli ....

1x small 3.5 channel coaxial heli to be fly inside my hotel apartment
1x 450 size aslo 3.5 channel coaxial heli to be fly outside

tongue.gif

Just got them last week, so far only practice the small one in room, no chance to test the big one yet.

Why 3.5 only? coz the price difference from 3.5 to 4 channel here is quite a lot, so try with 3.5 first lor, even crash also no problem... here dubai everything also expensive ... sad.gif

Anyway, the small heli seems not so difficult to fly wor ... I got all the basic commands working, up down front back ... just that it is not so stable hovering ... I mean probably the TX/RX not so sensitive or what, I push up a bit of throttle it goes too high, I push down a bit, it goes too low, so I have to keep pushing up and down so that it doesn't hit the ceiling and doesn't hit the floor ... tongue.gif

I will be back during CNY.

QiW ... u flying in Tun Hussien Onn? I wanna see how u fly ler ...

I will not be bringing back my that bigger version of heli, but probably will check out a Align 450 here in KL.

By the way, whats the main difference of a 450 Pro and Sports?

Back in KL.

Was wondering, is there any TX that is compatible with any Simulator program out there?

I mean if I want to do practice/simulator with the real TX instead of a mock-up TX.

Went to "The RC Shop" in BTS, had some chat with the boss there.

Was thinking of getting a Futaba 8FGH + R6008HS + with the *ahem* Flight Simulation CD for some practicing, then only get the ALIGN 450SE when got enough practice, maybe will try plane too if I like it ... tongue.gif

What do you guys think?
