Woah new thread already. Dark lord all combined  thumbup.gif

Btw just wanna ask, to achieve long shutter speed, what do we need? CPL right? Is that the main function of CPL? Which one is the darkest? hmm.gif
*
You need ND filter. Not CPL.
Commonly available ND filter is ND4 and ND8. The biggest I have is ND400 which cuts if 9 stop of light.

transition frm zooms to primes?  whistling.gif

btw, my fren r hunting some old lenses
he's deciding between AFD 24-85 f/2.8-4 n AFS 24-85 f/3.5-4.5
which is better choice?
of cos d bigger aperture of AFD is better, but AFS build n performance much better in reviews
*
Get AFD, still in production and can do 0.5x macro.
Surprising sharp and good color for a rm1.8k lens.
But your body must have motor first.

and like this also... how to fix it?

Try to shoot again without filter. Looks like problem with filter reflection.
What lens you're using?

I think the term is more more more expensive  laugh.gif

Which makes D90 a perfect camera compared to the D3100 or lesser lolz. Somehow, i prefer D90 over D3100.
*
Getting D90 with motor will save you money on the lens because nikon AFD lens is cheaper than AFS lenses.
Got more 2nd hand unit of AFD in 2nd hand market too.

Some of the nikon lens don't even have AFS option. eg: 20mm, 135mm,180mm.

Example of prime lens price difference
AFD 35 F2 = 1.2k (FX)
AFS 35 F1.8 = 800 (DX) <-- this one is worth it if you plan to stick to dx for long time.
AFS 35 F1.4 = estimate around 5k

AFD 50 F1.8 = 380 (super value lens, can play reverse ring macro too)
AFD 50 1.4 = 1.2k (on a pro body this one focus seems to be faster)
AFS 50 1.4 =1.8k

AFD 85 F1.4 = 3.8k
AFS 85 F1.4 = 4.5k

AFD 20mm F2.8 = rm1.8k
no AFS option

But if you just plan to have a basic set and not to mess around with prime lenses. A D3100,D5000 is more than enough lor.

means manual? oo.. manual vry mafan ><
*
Manual makes you think before you shoot. You will be amazed on how much better picture you will take and much lesser picture you need to process afterward.

If you're just new to digital photography, just get AF kitlens or 18-200 and enjoy first. No need to think too much.
When moving to full manual lens, FF will be more useful due to the much larger viewfinder.

17-50mm is not a prime yo..

Fast pace shooting need AF (eg: fashion show, sports, etc) AF-D lenses do communicate with Matrix Metering.. Unless u have static subject, MF is ok..
*
Very true. It really depend on that you want to shoot.
I'll bring manual lens out if I plan to go out walk around the park see got anything nice to shoot.
If I go out shoot fashion show or event, bring 70-200 and aluminum stair. <-- I was like this, now no more...

QUOTE(aldosoesilo @ Nov 21 2010, 04:02 AM)
Bro and sist. I am new in DSLR photography yet I am willing to learn more about it.
Here some of my questions, please give me guideline.
I just knew that canon lenses will work on nikon body, will it any degradation of the lens performance or something especially if I am using EF50mm f/1.8 II (canon lens) to substitute AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.4G (nikon lens)??
Since I am using D3100 which has no built in AF I want to know whether that canon lens could give me the auto focus as well or not..

Has anybody ever tried using canon lens on nikon body??

Secondly, I want to know what is the difference between DX lens and normal Nikoor lens? Will it give a degradation of performance on DX body?
E.g. I am using AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.4G  which is not DX lens on my D3100, what will happen?? should I go for AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G  instead? is it better in term of portrait capturing performance on my D3100 body??

Please show me the path..! biggrin.gifD

I'm not sure what your friend actually told you but as far as I know, cannot lens cannot work on Nikon body. There are a few reasons :
1) Canon mounting is different from nikon. Canon's mounting size is much bigger than nikon. They are physically and electronically incompatible.
2) Canon lens don't have manual aperture control, you have to shoot wide open.
3) Canon lens flange distance (44mm) is lesser than nikon(46.5mm), you will not be able to focus to infinity.

Nikon mounting are universal, you can mount FX lens on dx, dx lensw on fx. The body will automatically compensate for the smaller image circle. In simple word, yes, FX lens can use on your D3100. Take note that only AFS lenses will AF on D3100, you will loose AF if you use AFD lenses.

On DX non motor body, this is the normal practice for fix lense
shoot normally, get afs 35 1.8
shoot potrait, get afs 50 1.4

ps: The only way I know that can use canon lense on Nikon is by using a macro reversing ring. But your still can't control the aperture unless you have canon body on hand in which it will defeat the purpose for using d3100.... whistling.gif

so what do you think? since I am using D3100, should I go for 35mm f1.8 G? or 50mm f1.4 G?
about DX lens, does it mean both DX lens and non DX lens has no difference??
*
Get the AFS 35mm F1.8 for general purpose use. You can shoot portraits with 35mm also.
Furthermore its cheaper than AFS 50 1.4

Post and reply as much as I can see how long will it take to reach V2.
Got new feature with SB700? I tot its just an upgrade of sb600 with master function...

With the iso6400 of D700 and 24 F1.4, flash is not really that needed at night already. I mostly use my sb900 for fill flash only which I think is too big and heavy.

I am fine with the result I got from D700 ISO6400 + 24 1.4.
I would be happier if nikon can come out with D3s sensor on D700 body + flip LCD like D5k. rclxms.gif
