no idea about the canon lens... but on the DX lens, that would only become a problem when you pair the DX lens on FX bodies(D3 series) where you will experience vignetting on your pictures... but as i understand there are options to overcome that... as far as DX bodies on FX or DX lens, its a no issue in both performance or usability.

could anyone explain to me abou this cokin filters....
how does it differ from other filters. i know can change the filter type through changing the "mirror" thingy. but what about thread size? have to buy different thread size for each different lens like the the normal circular filter or its something like a multi sized snap-on ones?

unless you are very stable using those, yes the VR is important...
