After the nice early Xmas gift from HTC, I was enjoying the faster speed of the Froyo interface, new Maps (5.0 rocks!), Market, Gmail, and Facebook.

The next best thing happened when I went to Hong Kong for a short vacation. Bought a 3 prepaid SIM, loaded Market, and saw so much more apps (even paid) available! Downloaded Google Reader and everything else previously not for Eclair and/or Malaysia.

Of course, when I returned to Malaysia, Market became the usual dull empty crap that we know so well.

You guys should try this. Don't just roam overseas, get a local prepaid SIM and enjoy a different Market!

I suspect with Froyo the synchronization apps are causing more data transfer. Does anyone know which apps are they and what can be changed to reduce the transfer amount?

Or, other than 3G Watchdog Pro, are these any free apps that can track and display data transfer by app?

Thanks.

I'm open to using custom ROMs but since I've spent substantial time setting up my HTC Sense layout and installing programs and data, I have been reluctant to load custom ROMs. Most of them, if not all, require wiping of the phone memory and downgrading of HBOOT.

But, in order to run certain apps or perform some functions which only rooted Legends can do, this is what I do. This opens up temporary (until the phone is rebooted) capability to do useful things such as running the CPU at a higher clock speed and downloading premium apps from Market. All you need is our Malaysia-limited Market app to start.

1. Use Market to download: VISIONary, Busybox, and Market Enabler.
2. Start VISIONary and click on "Enable Temproot". Wait for the screen to return back to the menu and you should have root access.
3. Start Busybox and click install to download the latest stable package of tools to enabler Superuser.
4. Start Market Enabler and select another celco, such as "US T-Mobile", made possible by the earlier two apps you just downloaded and ran.
5. Start Market, which should update itself and also show more apps, including premium ones.

Steps 1 to 3 are necessary to run other privileged apps, such as Titanium Backup and Root Explorer, perhaps even ROM Manager.

Hope this helps.

So this works for unrooted phones right?
Works on froyo?

Yup, this is precisely for unrooted phones, especially our tough-nut-to-crack Legends with stock ROMs.

I have just sold my phone to my friend.

There wont be an official upgrade to GB for Legend, sad but true.

You can use the Sense 1.0 RC3 if you are interested to root it. Its GB rom based on the HTC Salsa (Legend lookalike). Sense 2.0 really bring a lot of improvement but since its an unofficial ROM, there are many problems with the ROM.

If you can live without WiFi Hotspot and wifi that might reboot your phone anytime, plus some other bug here and there, then go for it. I dont like it at all.

I'm using Gingerbread on my Legend. It wasn't easy, but I learned a lot. Rooting & flashing Cyanogen 7 was a great experience and it's so much better with root and alternative software other than HTC Sense.

Obviously HTC won't support this model any longer, so I'd explore rooting if you want to continue using this phone.

I am using CM7.03 with updated radio image for a more sensitive GPS. Any chance if any Legend users here uses WAZE in their phone? So far for me i cant get the GPS detected inside the app.

By default, I think CM7.0.3 doesn't have a working radio image and the GPS won't work at all. Maps, iGO and Waze all didn't work for me.

Go to Cyanogen - Still no GPS with stable release, 2nd post and download radio version 7.13.35.05. Put the zip file in your SD card, reboot to Recovery and flash that zip file.

The GPS will work well and perhaps even your GSM signal will improve.

Anyone tried V6 Supercharger script on the Legend?

I have and it seems to make the ADW launcher more stable & my dialer more responsive.
