i drink at least 16 ounces of water during training sessions. may be the cold because the gym is pretty cold. gonna start layering up and seeing if it makes a difference

Could be this... 1. Sudden Head or Neck Pain If you experience a sudden painful feeling in your head, especially when squatting with heavy weight, stop immediately and have a look at your form. This body pain you mustn't ignore could be a result of a blood vessel being overloaded due to pressure, or a seizing muscle that is having difficulty dealing with the stress of the weight you’re lifting. If you are one of the many men lifting incredibly heavy weights when performing your squats, be sure to look forward and concentrate on keeping your shoulders and neck muscles loose. If you aren’t, they may be taking some of the force of the weight, which could eventually lead to a serious strain in this area of the body. http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1051983

I get this problem whenever my pre-workout meal is not sufficient, pounding headache and sometimes lightheaded.
Everything's fine if I have a proper meal pre-workout.

Go and have your blood pressure checked, it might because you have hypertension or commonly called high blood pressure.
High blood pressure does not only affect people that are overweight and old people, those that have members in the family with high blood pressure are have a high risk of getting it too due to inheritance.
It can also because you got kidney, heart problems or just because you are taking too much salt.
Work stress and lack of sleep can also contribute to high blood pressure.
I know because I got it and I'm 26 years old.

It is still happening til now whenever I do any intense activities, not necessarily gym workout. Still dunno how to solve it Your symptom is very similar to mine. Doing some intense workout (i.e squats) and having pain to one side of the head for prolonged period. The only difference is that the pain is only specific to the right side of my head. That's when I figured something is wrong, pay the doctor a visit and found out I have high blood pressure.

Your lower back is not the target group of squats. Squats are meant to target your legs. If you're using your back to move the weight in what you call a squat, you're doing it wrong.

Also to note, Dumbbells have limited movement once you increase weights, since the dumbbells start to get really big. If you have a choice, start with barbells. Better in the long-term. Start with just the bar alone if you're unfamiliar to it.
