QUOTE(ericcc @ Jul 10 2011, 07:54 PM) Just bought WDTV Live today for RM259. works great so far! However... I been reading about plug-ins and firmware updates. would they help with - 1) Volume controls 2) Time search (eg. if i want to go to a certain time in the movie) After i bought then i discovered i dont have that 'Go-To' function that normally is in dvd players.sigh. Thanks for any help! Mind sharing where you bought it for Rm259? Anyway, what happen to Brad's firmware. Never updated anymore. Looks like Sigma is losing out to realtek as almost all the new player out there have Realtek chipsets.

QUOTE(terranova @ Aug 25 2011, 11:58 AM) I've given up on the idea of using moviesheets. not really for me I guess. On another note, I noticed that Western Digital is moving in this same direction as well, allowing users to customise their background, theme-driven UI, animated menus, allowing designers/users to share and upload theme templates, etc. You can already see this happening in the WDTV Live Hub. Hopefully, this will trickle down to the older models as well such as our wdtv live. On second thoughts, I think more likely they won't but will instead release an updated model of wdtv live and put this in as one of the "new features" to entice ppl to upgrade! I really like the interface and colour scheme of the wdtv live hub though. looks pretty ..... Moviesheet is the best thing about WDTV Live custom firmware. Can't live without it anymore.

The best thing about WDTV Live is that it plays even the highest bit rate bluray files without breaking a sweat so no need to upgrade for the moment. And with movie sheet support I really can't find anything cheaper and better.
But I am thinking of upgrading my receiver to support DTS Master audio and WDTV Live cannot passthru DTS Master so I might need to look for another player soon.

No DTSHDMA is such a turn off. I just bought a new receiver so I have to avoid this player for good.

I have always been a WDTV Live user, but looks like I have to jump ship this time as the WDTV Live -s cannot support DTS-MA passthru.

QUOTE(DarkNite @ Oct 23 2011, 01:21 PM) Many thanks for the briefing on the new WDTV Live-S. Whats the total cost including shipping. (in Ringgit)? So what ship did you jump into? I will probably get the HiMedia HD500 with the Realtek 1185 chipset which can passthru all the HD audio formats.

If I am not mistaken, this new WDTV Live S don't support passthru of HD audio formats like DTS-MA, DTS-HD.
Anyway to get this player to passthru all the HD audio formats?

QUOTE(ADJ @ Nov 22 2011, 07:03 PM) yup, too bad the number of titles with TrueHD pales in comparison to DTS-HD MA, hence the petition No DTS-HD passthru = no purchase for me.

QUOTE(DarkNite @ Nov 23 2011, 10:44 AM) Sigma 8655 chipset@500Mhz. If you are using this media player with an external Hard Disk, get any brand HDD but not Western Digital. Their this product not compatible with their external hard disk! Are you sure? I don't think WD would actually make a player that is not compatible with their own HDD.

I heard that the WDTV Live can passthru Dolby TrueHD but I just try Thransformer 3 mkv with Dolby TrueHD track and it says audio format not supported.
Can anyone share how it can passthru Dolby TrueHD audio? Is it the firmware? I am using Brad's custom firmware.

QUOTE(tim_1335 @ Nov 25 2011, 04:19 PM) The file has to be in an M2TS container to allow TrueHD passthrough. Ok. Thanks. Its time to upgrade to a new media player. Too bad the new WDTV Live still cannot passthru HD audio. I hope the Himedia 900A can passthru DTS-HD and Dolby-TrueHD in mkv container.

QUOTE(ADJ @ Nov 25 2011, 05:46 PM) previous WDTV Live passes through Dolby TrueHD in MKV containers as well. I've remuxed Star Trek, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, 300 and a few other titles since the WDTV live couldn't play Bluray ISOs. Are you sure? Mind sharing how you get it to work with mkv? The Transformer 3 mkv i have with Dolby-TrueHD can play fine with video but un-supported sound format message.

QUOTE(ADJ @ Nov 26 2011, 05:37 PM) quite simple actually, I just play my MKV remuxed with video track and TrueHD audio, HDMI output, audio digital bitstream to my AVR and it just works. Here's a pic of 300 bd-remux mkv, WDTV UI: [attachmentid=2554901] and here's the resulting indicator on my AVR: [attachmentid=2554902] Thanks for the nice picture. I think its my firmware version. I am using Brad's custom firmware WDLXTV-Live-0.4.7.3 based on original firmware 1.02.21. Its old version but I need the moviesheet function. My WDTV Live menu is different from yours. Mayber I should upgrade to the new version and try again.

WDTV Live S should be a great media player like the WDTV Live. Only disadvantages is that is won't play rmvb and also it won't pass thru the HD audio.

QUOTE(yuka @ Dec 25 2011, 03:20 PM) my xtreamer died just now, thinking of buying WDTV live. got question about the usb port, can i multiply the port using usb hub? Yes. I am using the logitech hub. But i think its not really that useful. Just plug in the HDD with the movies you wanna watch. No point powering on all the HDD as it consume power and shorten the life of the HDD.
