Guys, who here has successfully connected the WD TV Live to a home theater system via the optical cable? I just bought an optical cable today and when I connected it to my home theater system, there's no sound coming out.

Troubleshooting checklist:
1) Tried setting WD TV Live's sound output to Digital and Digital (without HDMI), no difference.
2) Checked the cables, there a red light at the tip of the cable.

So most likely the problem is at my home theater system? hmm.gif
*
Me. smile.gif

I connects it to my Yammy RX-V520 and Samsung HTIB for 2nd unit.

1) Ensure you set the the output in your WDTV Live sound setting to "Digital".
2) Ensure you set your AVR to correct channel (ex: DIGITAL IN/AUX IN/DVD etc)

Hmm.. Whether it supports DTS decoding I have to check. But was playing those normal files that doesn't have any 5.1 audio etc and still there weren't any sound coming out. Does the optical port only work when the audio is DTS?
Yup, all checked.
*
I suggest u try a movie with DTS/DD5.1 Most entry level/older AVR can't decode other standards, but it should still passthrough as normal dolby pro logic (ex: AAC track).

My home theater system is quite an old one, it's a Pioneer XV-DV33.

So in other words, if the setup is digital + optical cable and the file does not contain any DTS/5.1 audio then there won't be any sound coming out also right?
*
You still should be able to get sound...maybe as Dolby pro logic. Usually, if i have a non DTS/DD track like AAC, the sound will be much softer on my Samsung HTIB...have to turn up the volume.

Guys, how about if i play a 720p then HT spekers only come out on front L and R. Is it because the movie not 5.1.. thats y no surroud sound?
*
You should check your AVR whether DD/DTS/Dolby Pro Logic lights up. That will tell you what soundtrack it is.

So does your Samsung system need to do any configuration? I've read some other forums and some mentioning that have to configure the optical in on the home theater system first before it works. I can't seem to find how to do it on mine, I can't find my user manual and there are no user manuals online as well. sad.gif
*
Nothing to configure. Same like my Yamaha AVR. All i have to do is to select the proper input source (ex: 'Digital In' on my Samsung, DVD/DTV on my Yamaha). One thing though, if like my Yamaha, you can set it to 'Auto' to auto detect DTS/DD soundtrack. If you force select 'DTS' and your soundtrack is DD, then nothing come out. My Samsung don't have such function though, just auto-detect. Maybe u check if ur Pioneer is set to 'Auto' to detect the soundtrack automatically.

Anyone know how to jump movie time on WDTV Life ?
*
Press >> or << (shows ff/rw X2/X4..etc). While in this mode, press the Skip Next (foward or backward). It'll jump time by 10 minutes either foward or backward.

What is ur router/ap model? Are you setting it to Wifi-N 300Mbps? And set it to Wifi-N only mode to test?

You'll get better performance by setting to Wifi-n only, instead of mixed mode. But is ur wifi N150 or N300? If N150, you'll get slower speed. I suggest u use a PC with TVersity to test out the speed before using the MAC to confirm some streaming issues.

Morning guys. The WDTV Live is hooked up to my AVR via HDMI. Wired to my router and home network and accessing my QNAP NAS without any problems. Playback has been fine on random testing.

However, 2 quick questions:

(1) there is no album artwork support for FLAC?

(2) in the Audio/Video setting, I selected "Digital" for audio output. generally, no problems. however, on certain *.MP4 videos encoded with 2-channel AAC, the video plays fine but there is no audio. when i revert back to "Stereo" on the audio settings, only then i get both video AND audio. is this normal?

appreciate your advise. thanks in advance.

I think I will play around with the official firmware a bit more before graduating to the b-rad wdtvl firmware.
*
(2) Yes. Coz most likely ur AVR cannot decode AAC. But i think on my WDTV it still can play...but the sound is very soft....i don't have many AAC movies anyway...either DTS or DD51.

thanks for the love bro. was beginning to feel ignored. tongue.gif

maybe you're right, but afaik my Denon 4310 plays nice with AAC. anyway, not a big issue, just a hassle to change to "stereo" that's all.

I dun think that is possible lor....browsing web would requires a hell lot more processing power i think. Simple plug in to some specific service is possible...but not full blown browser with all bells and whistles.

It supports same wifi adaptor like original one, b-rad just added more features to wdlxtv
Easiest way to share your files is using tversity, but you don't get thumbnails display
Normal windows share(samba), you'll still get the occasional stutter playing movies

Anyone here tried streaming m2ts file around 40gb wirelessly?
Tried playing transformers 2 (41gb), stutters after 30 seconds into the movie..
~20gb m2ts file still ok, main pc still using 100mbps lan adapter..
*
Tried 30GB+ Pirates of the Carribean, streams fine over LAN (backbone Gigabit, PC server running on gigabit port)....WIFI-N300 also ok...will stutter rarely, but generally it's very smooth

Hi..
Im planning to get WDTV Live soon..Today I went to Lowyat to check the price and demo set..
I want to plug this set to my LCD TV using HDMI cable..But for audio I wanna use my AV receiver..
Its a normal AV receiver, which have red and white cable..

So I wanna know whether for picture can I use HDMI output and for audio use AV Output..?

Another thing is,can it play normal 30GB -40GB files flawlessly..?

Coz the seller recommend me another brand, kworld i think...
*
No problem. Tested that on 1GB Network backbone and also WIFI-N300.

i'm using the latest firmware.
normally you select the resolution + refresh rate (1080p 60Hz, 1080p 50Hz, etc),

now just select auto, then auto framerate, then you're done. works fine for me
*
Yep, works fine here. Automatically set my TV to 1080/24p when detected the MKV rip at 24fps.

Hi guys, long time no visit this thread. AS some of you might know, i've previously setup a wireless N300 network to stream HD previously and it was working fine. However, recently, it is not working to stream my huge MKV files...even 8GB files will stutter after a few minutes....previously all was fine, even 30GB+ uncompressed BD files....i suspect it could be the neighbours WIFI-N interfering...anyway was pretty fed up.....today i bought this:

http://www.aztech.com/my/homeplug_hl115ep.html

500MBPS Home power plug and dump my WIFI-N300...

It was a risk...spent about RM290 including the network cables (the box came with cables, but too short for any real use). The unit was RM130 apiece.

Glad to say, it is working great! All files works perfectly including the 30GB+ uncompressed files. I can't tell the exact speed of the network for the powerline but when streaming the movies i noticed this in my file server (gigabit network).

< 10GB Mkv files - 1%++ of the network used (so about 10MBps++).
30GB+ uncompressed BD - 3.XX% of the network used (so about 3x MBps++).

The thing is, the unit must be plug at the wall or at the first extension before breaking out to another extension. Do not plug it into an extension share by many other elewctronic gadgets. When i do this, i get the lowest speed (indicated by the lights on the unit...red, amber , green(best) ). Once i plug it out to the wall or first extension level breakout, it turns green...and the 30GB++ file dun lag anymore.

smile.gif

Oh yeah, my house here is quiet old, so looks like old power wiring also ok. So no problem. smile.gif I say ditch the WIFI and get yourself wired!!!

PS: Make sure your house is running on Single Phase Power. If it's more than 1 phase, some points will be on different network, so can't be used.

WARNING: The latest 1.06 firmware has a serious bug...it WON'T REGCONIZE STREAMING FROM TVERSITY anymore!!! Your folders and files will simply not shown and it'll tell you there's no files in the folder.

Revert to 1.05 = another serious bug, can't control the movies (remote no response) after you start a movie...need to power off/on.

Revert to 1.04=most stable version where everything including TVERSITY works.

So people running on TVERSITY or maybe other streamers beware!

The WDTV forums has already a lot of talks on this, where all the TVERSITY users having the same problem.

my tv supports 100hz. i understand that most of these media player output 1080p up to 60hz max. so my question is does the tv upscale the signal from the media player to 100hz automatically? thanks

The 100Hz/120Hz thing depends on the TV, not the media player.

Hello all... I am currently have my 1.5TB HDD connect to my WDTV live thru USB and I am planing to move this hdd to my soon to build NAS from an old Pentium dual core PC. And seem to be the best choice for the OS is Freenas.

What I am wondering if I Raid my NAS to have more than 3.0TB drive space (adding more drive to it), will the WDTV live be able to see it properly? As I did read somewhere that the WDTV max drive supported is currently at 3TB drive. I wonder if these limit apply to network share also.

I am also asking if anybody could share some experience on WDTV live strreaming media from NAS specifically Freenas.

Thanks
*
I stream using TVersity from my PC...my HDD in an external USB storage box (with 4 HDD inside)...basically, there is no limit...limit only by your $$$$...but i just use Windows 7 to do the job, no need FREENAS. Pentium dual core (C2D era?) is powerful enough to run Win 7 PC server. it's way better than a NAS. Streaming movie is a much better protocol than just fileshare...especially huge HD movie files....Streaming is smooth, Fileshare will sometimes lag. With PC, it's also easiear to download files and search web for files to download. Either torrent or direct downloads (uploaded to, netload, rapidgator etc).
