Thought you already had one long ago tongue.gif
I guess that makes WDTV Live a great Christmas present biggrin.gif
Anyway, here's a video that shows medianavigation and subdownloader plugins with wdlxtv custom firmware for anyone wondering how it's displayed

A friend's WD player - I've no idea which model - is no longer working properly. The menu pops up but when a file is chosen, nothing happens.. Any idea if 1) it can be fixed, 2) how much it cost to fix it, 3) where can it be fixed, 4) how long it will take to fix it.

Thanks in advance.

Maybe try flashing it with a B-RAD...or WD's own firmware version 1.04xx !

Maybe the file he is trying to play is not compatible?
Have he try known playable files?

Nothing happens as in the circle keeps spinning?
Did WDTV froze after playing that movie?
It might have something to do with the format, but usually it would display error like 'File Not Supported'
If this still happens with other video files, try updating new firmware or reset the player.

Try asking your friend to delete the cache file created by WDTV in your storage media, then try it again. I got mine working by doing so.

Good suggestions. Thanks everyone! I'll forward him these tips.

But if all of that don't, my questions still remain.

What is ur router/ap model? Are you setting it to Wifi-N 300Mbps? And set it to Wifi-N only mode to test?

For the CRT tv, was it using LAN cable?
How exactly are you sharing your files? Using windows share or tversity?

It should automatically set to wifi n,
then again I'm using TP link router
Try checking the router settings.

If on CRT tv it was ok, then could be a distance issue?
NFS has faster transfer rate than Samba, a better option if you want to stream 1080p files
For me, it solves the stuttering problem with 720p and 1080p movies..
With osx, it should be using samba i think
Here's a guide to set up nfs share with OSX.

http://wiki.wdlxtv.com/Sharing_from_OSX

But I'm not sure how to get WDTV with official firmware to detect nfs share hmm.gif

You'll get better performance by setting to Wifi-n only, instead of mixed mode. But is ur wifi N150 or N300? If N150, you'll get slower speed. I suggest u use a PC with TVersity to test out the speed before using the MAC to confirm some streaming issues.
