Thermal cut out means you need some spare SB900s in your pouch. Swap em out and let them rest a bit. Dont risk burning the fresnel lens or the discharge tube.

In my opinion, buying 3rd party flash is a waste of money. After awhile you will want a real Nikon and have to sell the 3rd party at a huge loss. Might as well suck it down and get a real Nikon first time round.

How did you use the SB900 till it overheats? Granted I dont have an SB900, but I use SB800s with 5 batts a lot, and have never, ever gotten it to overheat in the past 4 years...

Usually only wides have petal hoods as the lens needs to see more out the far edges. For normal and teles the angle of view is very narrow, thus a full hood will do.

Hate the fact that the 35/1.4 doesn't have a 77mm filter. WTF was Nikon thinking? If you step up to 77mm then the hood doesn't mount. Idiots.

I'm having the 24/1.4 and loving it. Won't be getting the 35mm cos of the stupid filter size. When I need 35mm I'll put it on a DX camera.

All the good lenses... 24-70, 24-120, 17-35, 28-300, 16-35, 80-200, 70-200, 84/1.4 have 77mm filter size. Only the 35mm is the odd one out.

Why need 77mm filter? The bigger the filter size the more money you have to pay for filter no?  blink.gif
In fact, I prefer to have smaller size lens too. 85mm is already damn bulky on my D300 doh.gif

Its about buying and maintaining only one set of filters. When you buy a RM6k lens u dont really care if the filter is RM100 or 200 or 300... hmm.gif

And old timers with a collection of lenses dont like to buy all their filters again just for one lens. A lens is just one component of an entire system, so all parts must play nice.

With the filter adapter you cant put the hood on. I can't count how many times I bang my lens and the hood takes the cake instead of my lens...

I have the 24/1.4 when you gonna come rob me??? brows.gif
