hi guys i just bought msi gx60 hitman edition yesterday..
from the spec it got AMD radeon HD7970M..
but when i check on dxdiag my vga chip shown as AMD Radeon HD 8650G

and then im checking at device manager > display adapters > there are two adapter: HD 7970M and HD 8650G

i tried find how to switch HD 7970M as primary but no luck, any idea? oh wait, does it mean i got 2 graphic cards installed on my gx60!?
*
8650G is the integrated graphics that come with the A10-5750m APU...
Depending on your settings in AMD Vision Engine Control Center, the switch between 8650G and 7970m is automated..
you can set the application profile there (High performance/power saving)
Look at the LED colour on the power button...when it's white, it is using the integrated card...orange when using dedicated card..

ah ic thx for the information kinda panicking here biggrin.gif

btw any of u guys replacing or adding ur hdd with ssd and windows 8? is the f3 factory reset gonna work if i move my hdd to secondary and use ssd as primary?

----------------------------------------------update---------------------------------------------------------------------------

i replaced my primary hdd with ssd now and moved the msi old hdd to secondary bay (before i put my ssd i backup a recovery on my usb flash)

after i do clean instal win 8 on my ssd and format my old hdd, apparently the f3 recovery button doesnt work anymore it dont put me on recovery system screen.. tried pressing it many times nothing happened.

but i think the recovery isnt really important after all, since u can install every drivers easily with one-click-install button from ur driver cd

then now im still experimenting with my usb flash recovery, since cant use the f3 button, i put my flash and set as primary boot. voila it made me accessing recovery system screen now biggrin.gif

now from that screen, i have 2 choices:
1. harddisk recovery (will wipe out the entire harddrive and all its partition to factory setting)
status: totally formatted my ssd and lose all my partition from ssd (i created partition C 180gb for windows and created partition E 50gb for my installers, both are gone become only C partition). but the recovery didnt touch my old hdd on secondary bay and nothing lose. and windows 8 are installed in my primary hdd bay, which is in my ssd

2. partition recovery  (will wipe out only a partition where u install ur windows)
status: if u wanna this recovery u need to do harddisk recovery 1st

after i finished do the no. 1 i can access my F3 button and bring me to the recovery system screen  thumbup.gif

my advice: the fastest way to avoid unnecessary problems, if u wanna use ssd: please remove ur hdd > put ur ssd on primary > install clean win 7 or 8 > install drivers and utilities from cd or download from website > put ur old hdd on secondary bay (before this i tried many times with both hdd and ssd attached, it really give me many issues with windows installation)

if u guys have better way please kindly give me ur information

i think this post can become the best tutorial for ppl who wanna use ssd and keep their factory setting, since i googled in these 3 days, most ppl cant use their factory setting and f3 button after they did clean instal windows in their ssd

thx

I've just added a SSD as my boot drive...What i did was use MSI Burn Recovery to create a bootable recovery USB drive..
Remove the HDD, and connect the SSD...(Did not swap bays since both are SATA III ports).
Then I boot into recovery using the USB drive (change boot priority in bios).
Then I restored the windows to the SSD..since the SSD is the only drive available, it will restore windows to that drive...
The recovery partition was also restored to the SSD...so F3 recovery still works for me...
After everything's ok and using for a while, can proceed to format the HDD to get rid of the OS...
I chose this method because it's easier and there's not many bloatwares that came with GX60 (except for a few Norton stuff)..

guys i wanted to ask u opnion
yesterday i went shopping
wanted to buy me a new gaming lappie
saw a lenovo y500 with dual gt750 price at rm3899 , but also found
msi gx60 hitman edition that has hd8650g and 8970m
my question is whether who is better in term performance in gaming , and price based performance ?
is both can play skyrim in ultra setting + mods installed ?

What kind of games do you play most? As far as GX60 is concerned, MMO, RTS are not its strength..as well as game engines that relies alot on CPU calculations rather than gpu, and games that are not efficient in multithreading...

Games that i've completed on GX60 so far:

Witcher 2 - playable at max (minus ubersampling) but slight lag in town area with a lot of NPC..
XCOM: EU - playable at max
Spec Ops: the line - playable at max, minor lag here and there..
Torchlight 2: playable
DMC: playable at max all the time except lag at 1 particular area in 1 level.
Max payne 3: playable at max
Battlefield BC2: playable at max
Battlefiled 3: playable at max in SP, lag in MP

Currently playing:
Dishonored - playable, but underperform compared to i7 peers with 7970m/680m..
Tomb raider- playable at ultra with TressFX

Games that are known to not work well on GX60
-Saints row 3 and GTA4
-NFS-Most wanted
-Assassins creed 3

With all that said, GT60 with 770m is a better option than both Y500/Y510p and GX60 if you're willing to spend more...

With GX60, i would say its a mix bag and hard to predict it's performance...some games runs well, some games don't...
Games that are GPU heavy would see it performing on par with i7 setup...while GX60 may underperform compared to i7 in some games, 40 fps is still very playable to me..
i7 is more consistent...if the GPU can't handle it at that settings, it just can't and you have to lower the settings...but it is not as straight forward for GX60 as there are not many CPU related settings to tweak..
Lucky for us, next gen games are going to be GPU heavy and multithreading optimized due to weak AMD single core performance in next gen consoles..
