QUOTE(awls80 @ May 29 2017, 01:14 PM) Hi, hoping someone can help me. I'm looking to buy a 49" or 50" Smart TV. My budget is RM3000 and below. I have narrowed it down to HDR content is pretty limited now (it's like a handful of official streams have it, and mostly tech demo videos on Youtube). Samsung UA50KU6000 or Sony 49X7000D I can get the samsung for rm2405 and the sony for rm2800 on 11st. I know the samsung is UHD and the sony is HDR but I'm a noob with all these terms so I don't know which one is better. I would like to be able to watch youtube videos, sync my samsung phone to view photos, videos etc and watch movies from my usb. Goes without saying that picture and audio quality must be good. Hope someone can help me! Besides most "better" HDR screens are going around RM4k+ to 5 digits ish now, and it's more of a future proof thing I guess (expect HDR content to trickle in between these 5 years, starting from TV Drama (western), PS4 / XboxOne games, and then finally to UHD Bluray) So if you're not one of the 3 above, then you can safely ignore HDR for this couple of years until it become more mainstream. |

QUOTE(awls80 @ May 29 2017, 03:25 PM) Thanks for the quick reply! I would love to get the UA55. Unfortunately, I don't have the space for it. I understand that the UA50KU6000 and UA55KU6000 have the same specs, only difference is the size right? So I should go for Samsung then? Do you know of any issues with the UA50KU6000? Thanks for your reply! I'm still a little confused. So in other words, it's not really worth getting hdr now due to the limited content available right? I'm not much of a gamer but I do watch a lot of western TV dramas... So I guess the Samsung is a better choice for me? QUOTE(tohff7 @ May 29 2017, 04:24 PM) A proper HDR 4K TV (10-bit panel, 1000-nit peak brightness or OLED) costs more than RM4-5k. Those u see advertise as HDR pro, premium or whatever is just marketing gimmick. Only those that have the UHD Premium Alliance Certified logo is true HDR TV. Yeah. HDR content is limited right now (I believe you can get it legit through some platform like NetFlix or Amazon Video only so far, youtube has too less HDR content to bother with)Content is limited now and u need superb internet connection to stream 4K HDR (>25mbps) from Netflix etc. But once you taste the PQ of HDR TV, you won't go back For HDR Pro/Premium/Whatever gimmick name they give, yeah it's quite pointless as the color range and brightness is not good enough to output a proper HDR Picture. For Samsung TV, I believe only 7 Series and Above (2016 model and beyond) has proper Ultra HD compliance. And yes to stream those definitely need more than 20 mbps. Even my home has 50mbps can stutter sometimes on Ultra HD HDR content from Amazon video. The KU6000 has a decent Picture quality value for it's price, it can't receive HDR Signal if I'm not mistaken, but even the latest MU6100 has mediocre HDR performance (non 10 bit panel, weak contrast, etc) To enter HDR, the general rule of thumb is you need wide enough color band and good enough contrast (screen can go very right and dark) Best HDR screen would be OLED (cause inidvidual pixels can turn off completely for true black), but we're back to the Plasma era where image retention will cause some issue with OLED. As the tech progress expect it to improve by leaps and bounds. |

You can check more details about KU6000 from Rting
http://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/samsung/ku6300 This is the equivalent review from US model. I noticed it supports HDR as well, the gimmick kind one. |

QUOTE(awls80 @ May 29 2017, 06:21 PM) Thanks tohff77 and haruji! Learning so much from u guys. The upscale for Samsung TV on 4k resolution is reasonable for SDR quality. The difference of upscale from SDR to 4k between 50 inch and 55 inch can be ignored, since the pixel count is the one that make pictures more soft when doing upscale. One last question... I have reorganised my TV table so I now have the space for the ua55ku6000. I am wondering how astro b.yond HD and SD channels will look on the 55". Will it be pixelated or patchy? Or would I be better off with the 50"? on my 55 inch KS7000, i run through some pretty good picture quality with 720p stream sitting around 6 feet to 7 feet away. Even 480p is reasonable if you can ignore the fact the image look soft as hell XD. For 1080p stream it looks superb. Of course still 4k has the best Picture quality. Byond HD iinm is running at 1080i, while SD channel should be (CORRECTION) 480p. 1080i is inherently worse off than running at native 720p last I remember. Of course it actually highly dependent on your viewing distance. For 55 inch I believe your viewing distance would between 4 feet to 6 feet. http://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/by-size/s...ce-relationship This post has been edited by Haruji Sora: May 29 2017, 06:57 PM |

QUOTE(ZzZzz... @ May 30 2017, 08:28 AM) SUHD is discontinued with year 2017.Everything is rebranded as UHD TV, and QLED TV for flagship. KU6000 -> MU6100 KS7000 -> MU8000 KS9500 -> Q7F And a new flagship of Q9C if I'm not mistaken. If you talk about SUHD, then I believe only KS series was affected (naming got downgraded from SUHD to UHD) But technically it is the same type of TV range, except the prev gen TV tend to be much brighter and have "slightly" better color coverage? Even QLED cant beat the prior gen KS brightness, however they do have a higher color coverage and gamut. But technically if you cant find KS anymore, MU8000 and above is the alternate solution. Just that the price isn't so ideal now. Even for my case, I have to wait until almost a year for 55inch KS7000 to be slashed from the RRP of 7999 to 4950 (I didnt get the cheapest deal, someone else got it for 4.6 or 4.5k LOL) |

QUOTE(ukiya @ May 30 2017, 03:22 PM) hey guys, yesterday one of the shop offer me: LG LCD TV is kinda worse off than Samsung equivalent.Samsung UA55KU6000, RM2899 with free installation and delivery within Klang Valley. Additional I get 5% rebates: Final price shud be around RM2755 Should I Buy? Or shud I go for LG 55UJ63 ? Cheap? Good? I'm also saw a Samsung QLED display unit (was out of the box for exhibition) and they letting go at RM8880 ... shud b 55" inch TV in Harvey Norman. Wish I m have the budget!? Or any good one to recommend beside UA55KU6000? I m try looking for KS series. very hard to find even desa home ... There is a RM4999 KS7000 above @ 11 street. As mention prior few, for below RM3k price tag, KU6000 is kinda the best choice for 55 inch TV for that price. |

QUOTE(tohff7 @ May 31 2017, 12:38 PM) Yea, display unit for RM4K is about right. In my invoice from Harvey Norman, the TV was also around RM4K while the additional 3-year warranty is RM800-900. Any IR Blaster equipped phone also can do it. Or find a old Samsung TV remote (or those BD remote with samsung TV switch on top)Btw, how do you access the hidden service menu? I suppose you need to use the other type of Samsung remote? Cos the 1 given for KS7000 is a slick and minimal buttons 1. I believe they still earn a few hundred at least. I have a Samsung BD player so the remote can work with my KS7000 |

QUOTE(ukiya @ Jun 5 2017, 10:08 AM) I m saw. KU6000 quite attractive to me ... however the demo and the screening kinda turn me down when i pay a visit to the show room. KS7000 is comparable (if not better in some terms like peak brightness) than QLEDs so actually 5099 is kinda a fair price for brand new unit. And KS7000 wow me but SH told me its a last year model and they stop manufacture KS7000 and cheapest I can get is RM5099. Since, KU6000 is not as bad as I think... might consider buying from Lazada. Found one shop selling RM2599 with free shipping and installation. RM300 cheaper than SH quoted me. Wait for my house ready in 1 or 2 months time and see whats the best turn out. If not, will just stick with KU6000. Another offer, is from Harvey. They have 2 demo unit forsales (last 2 weeks i check) they selling off QLED for RM8288... I like tat model but the price is way beyond my level edy. It is one of the best PVA panel of 2016 (in the whole line). Only OLED can be better than KS7000 but of course way more expensive (in fact for RM8k it is better to go straight for LG OLED series) QLED is just not worth the price for now. It's just a marketing term while the panel is actually comparable to last year SUHD series (it has slightly better color output, comparable brightness/contrast output) |

QUOTE(Moiteser @ Jun 6 2017, 09:58 AM) Isn't those model like 1 flat and 1 curved?Should have exact same spec, barring curve to be the more expensive variant. I'm not a believer of curved screen due to the fact the sweet spot of Curved screen is kinda small, compared to flat screen that is more versatile for me. However some ppl swear to curved screen being nicer and I do admit aesthetically it does look a lot nicer. Let's put it this way, if you putting a TV a ta wide living room (with more than 5 sitting position, some of them at the side like 2 seats, 3 seats, 1 seats, then go for flat. If you primary going to use it alone or max only 3 seat sofa right in front of the TV, curve will work. |

QUOTE(Moiteser @ Jun 7 2017, 10:02 AM) Iinm the difference should be barely noticeable for the same 6 series TV.Personally I would go for the cheapest one unless budget allow me go higher, then it is better to jump another series up. Direct or Edge back lighting without local dimming support is kinda whatever if i'm not mistaken. |

QUOTE(#Victor @ Jun 7 2017, 12:08 PM) Check on another topic since this one TV LOL.But general rule of thumb is speaker number and total watt. Obviously the bigger the better, then from there check reviews. Another thing to check is format support, as there is alot of Dolby signal format nowadays. My aging 5 year old HT is having trouble with format support now. Another rule of thumb is sound bar is kinda so-so, unless space is a concern. I believe a dedicated 5.1 can outperform the so call surround sound soundbar, as it is very hard to achieve surround sound via reflection and blahs from a single sound bar. And ARC is an ass to work out, I only have one HDMI cable that can work with Arc (it come with my PS4 Pro), and only with a newer soundbar i loaned from the shop. My aging HTE is giving all sort of hell with Arc with my new TV (it already is patchy like hell on my older TV as well), so I just forget about it and plug in optical and save myself the headache. Anyways HT is like TV, the more you spend, obviously the better it gets. But just work around your budget then reach a compromise. If you want surround, go for 5.1. If you want just better sound in stereo, then you have to dig about the speakers sound quality through review or audition it at shop. |

QUOTE(drunkonpiss @ Jun 7 2017, 06:08 PM) I asked the technician if the issue is common for KU models but he told me that it happens to all 4k TVs regardless of the model. He told me that he was working with Samsung since he was 17 until today. he's in his mid 40s That looks bad. It's like one of the edge backlight went kaput. |

QUOTE(doi0728 @ Jun 8 2017, 01:34 PM) bro, it seem my ks7000 having light bleed problem as well , my light bleeding area is on right and bottom edge Sure it's not the back panel separate issue? KS7000 quite easy to get the edges slightly separate and in some case it will leak abit light due to that. |

QUOTE(drunkonpiss @ Jun 19 2017, 05:39 PM) Hey guys, just an update regarding with firmware update 1180, the HDR doesn't give you a prompt however, I noticed that when I click the PS4/Console in the HDMI settings, information would say HDR/UHD 3840x2160 so i'm guessing it's playing HDR content minus the notification which I personally prefer. When i'm the PS4 Pro Menu, it would only say UHD 3840x2160. That sort of the same with the native youtube app on Samsung Smart Hub. When HDR video is playing there will be no notification (just auto bump backlight to 20 and etc setting to HDR setting)I wonder if Game Mode can auto bump up the backlight or not with future Sammy firmware, it's annoying now that I need to manually switch setting for HDR in Game Mode. |
