Hi all need some advice on backlight bleeding. I have a samsung 55MU6100 bought over a month ago and noticed recently some bleeding bottom right corner. The other parts are ok but somehow in the photo looks quite bad. Normally in movies not affected too much but just wondering is this considered serious? Will it become worse in the future? BTW the photo below was taken with backlight at max of 20. Thanks!

Quite normal for edge-lit TVs. Shouldn’t become worse in future and even if it did, there’s a minimum limit it has to reach before Samsung will agree to fix it. Reduce the backlight levels.
*
Backlight 20 (max) is normal for HDR video (Stranger Things 1/2 is HDR video

Anyways your picture show the normal behavior of edge light LCD panel.

Technically it is not bleeding. You notice the white parts are due to the Picture shown (white UI in the middle, will turn on the particular "line" of edge for backlighting)

Try on full black screen, you should see minimal clouding.

Or when you watch some movie that has like a big SONY white word in the middle and nothing else, you should observer that in the middle the backlight is on while the rest are off.

Hai guys

I am a newbie planning to buy a Samsung Tv for gaming purpose.

Is this a good option?

If your living room space big enough to warrant 65 inch purchase?

And don't forget MU9000 is curved variant, which is well, depends on ppl, may look nice or just plain weird (esp if you go off center)

For the same price you can also look into 55 inch variant of Q7F (a more superior panel than the MU series, with HDR1500), which is also a flat panel.

LG OLED series is not bad as well, so long as you take care of not leaving a particular channel on for long until it cause Burn In (then again OLED burn in is usually not permanent, usually, there are exception case though XD)

Or you can also look in Sony variant

A quick recap is

LG B6 / OLED series - Usually quite reasonable lag time, HDR capability belong to the higher tier (due to excellent contrast), OLED just need to be careful about Image rentention

Samsung Q7F - Paper spec is successor to KS7000 previously. HDR 1500 (very high brightness). I consider it as higher tier HDR as well. Excellent response time. VA Panel which is "ok" viewing angle.

Sony X850e/X940e - Edge Backlight as well (similar to Q7F). Good response time. HDR capability also at close to upper tier (may be wrong haha).

There is also the LG SUPER UHD series, which give you IPS panel. I personally don't like IPS on TV (only like it for my PC Monitor), but different ppl have different taste.

Golden rule of thumb - Do all the internet reading, check review all you want. But in the end the best practice is go to a shop (Harvey maybe), and eyeball the sets you narrowed down. You can always ask the salesperson to loan you a remote, tune down their setting to regular profile (all display set are blasted with DYNAMIC profile, or something bombastic like that). Bring some media of your own (you can also rip some gameplay 60fps video to your phone or thumb drive and play it)

Hahaha

Yeah i technically need to get 65 inch as well (my seating position in living by default is roughly 9 to 10.something feet.

But holy prices for 65 inch is doubled at that moment (KS7000 55 inch RM4850 VS KS7500 65 inch @ RM9k)

End up budget constraint go back to 55 inch, and move a chair over when gaming haha. (so i seat around 7 feet away LOL)

I just want the HDR notification to appear again haha.

Recently keep forgetting to manually adjust my backlight for PS4 HDR game cause I forgot which title has HDR XD

I did remember the current 12xx update havent have a seperate HDR Profile for Game mode yet, thought it was hinted on AVSforum that the Samsung engineer is looking into it as it is like the number 1 most requested "feature" everyone asking for.

Warning ! KS8000 1203.6 reports :-

"HDMI not getting detected after 1203.6 update. This is commonly reported by many users. Is samung releasing fix for this?. Kindly report/escalate this to product team"

If you are connecting through AVR HDMI, better be take note.

Elsewhere, previously, Samsung  already released 1206.x. Over here we are always behind time. I think I will skip 1203.6 update for time being.
*
LOL I plugged out my ARC HDMI anyways cause it keep destroying the HDMI-CEC and just use Optical cable connection now haha. (I already perma removed the old HyypTV box in my setup, it was the root cause of killing HDMI-CEC, but recently my old aging 5 year old Samsung BD-HT system is giving the exact same problem with the darn HyypTV box LOL)

I remember KS7000 used to be T-JZMUABC.exe

LOL.

Oh well. Stupid as ever.

Meanwhile, US set is getting update 1207 LOL.

OTA Update is not up yet (usually it take forever to appear in OTA). The same link I posted for KS7000 works for KS7500

I don't have Airplay LOL. So can't test.

But well on my side everything works normally. PS4, all HDMI inputs.

Netflix, Youtube.

Even my NAS videos are all working through the TV. My S7 Edge also still can cast mirror screen via Samsung Connect.

Opened a few HDR sample video on Youtube, looks kinda same from previous LOL.

Still no banner output to inform HDR video is playing (damn)

Star Trek Discovery on Netflix HDR looks more impressive (or maybe it's just placebo effect)

Long story short, nothing broken yet.

In short, nothing improved either, lol. I just downloaded. I see the txt info notes shows the fw was prepared 30/8/17. Took them 2mths + to release it, lol.

Give us 1206 or 1207 fw already !!!

btw, I don't think you will be seeing the HDR logo ever again from the TV FW side. Samsung probably have left it to the Game Developers/Sony and content providers to show the HDR on their end. (Let them take the blame if not up to quality, lol)

For example, if you are subscribing to Amazon Prime, when you play a HDR video you will get this message before the video begins "An HDR Video is playing" or something like that , I can't exactly remember.

All I can say is on my end whatever HDR contents I have seen from Amazon Prime is washed out and lifeless colours. Instead of being impressed I feel depressed, lol. I prefer SDR videos from Amazon, more sharper and vibrant colours compared to HDR.

Only Youtube HDR Demo videos so far look really nice.
*
Funny. Did you bump the correct setting for Amazon HDR Video?

I'm using Netflix and so far all the HDR video I watch from there is really impressive.

Hi guys,

an update for my 55MU6100 backlight bleeding.

1. samsung tech guy came and change the panel. backlight bleed more worst then the original one. request new set from samsung.

2. wait for one week for samsung to replace new set of tv. TV replace and backlight bleed is also worst on this new set. samsung tech try to calibrate the TV and he also admin this model has design flaw. He ask to request for refund.

3. wait another one week, and samsung contact me last friday 10.11.2017 to collect the TV and refund me.

4. saturday 11.11.2017 saw on sen heng website, sony x7000e got promotion RM2799. straight away buy the tv and i was happy with the picture quality and no more light bleed is the most important.

Compare sony and samsung tv.

- Sony tv not really can see the juddering when fast object movement. but on samsung juddering very bad.
- Sony color produce more realistic then samsung  which a bit fake color.
- HDMI ARC working smooth like butter on sony tv. I can now cabut the optical cable.

**sorry for my bad english smile.gif

Thank you.

Well in terms of entry level TV, i do believe Sony has the slight upper edge.

The only plus point for me in Samsung is that the price tend to chop so much more deeper than other brands counterpart.

Also the higher mid range TV for Samsung seems to edge out in terms of panel performance.

Flagship however, I think Sony/LG is doing a much better job with their OLED series, barring in mind the price also 5 digits LOL.

For motion, it is almost a known fact that the Sony TV chip is better (usually), hence why when ppl say they watch football, usually auto recommend Sony TV. Samsung is usually better in terms of color reproduction and contrast.

HDMI Arc LOL, even on my KS7000 it is giving me trouble, usually with older components. Somehow Samsung Product development is top notch, but when it comes to firmware and software support *shakes head*.

In all seriousness though, my KS7000 is performing as what I wanted for the price point I wanted, but boy did i wish they buckle up and get some other things working properly (like for example, stabilize the damn ARC, or roll their firmware update globally, unlike now wait 4 months just to get a damn old firmware)

Yup, what Ngto says. If you select PCM' on the optical would be stereo; 'Bitstream' would be 5.1 (if available).
OLED  wub.gif

This is why the likes of Apple’s model has the upper hand. Make the same hardware, just rollout the same updates worldwide.. I mean, is there some critical component that’s present/absent in Malaysian TVs, compared to that of say the USA or Europe?
*
Nah I heard rumor that they'll be a firmware update around end of this month that finally will finally separate HDR / Non-HDR profile for Game Mode.

If that really happen, we in Malaysia probably need to wait until after Feb 2018 or some crap to get that firmware LOL.

For HDR content i try on netflix and guardian of the galaxy 2 i downloaded which has 4k HDR resolution.

On samsung MU6100 the default HDR setting, color i have to re-calibrate because the color produce not very accurate and oh boy the juddering very bad on MU6100. Also I cannot find how to turn off auto dimming on samsung. All eco setting already turn off.

On sony the other hand, It has 2 option for HDR. when I choose HDR vivid, wow the color, picture motion (very little and almost not noticeable juddering) and clearness of the picture are very good. I have no complain. I have not calibrate the HDR setting and leave at default.
*
LOL you can download HDR rips nowadays? I thought the metadata can't be ripped XD

Auto Dimming is basically the edge lightning is it? You probably have the wrong Dynamic Contrast setup prior.

And isnt HDR Vivid = HDR+ in Samsung set?

*
D Series, I believe it around the same era my old ES6220, so I give it roughly 5 to 6 years old?

Sets at that age probably does not support Samsung Quick Connect (I believe Quick Connect only works with 2015 and above TV sets)

You probably need to look into All Share. I remember my old TV can connect using All Share app or Samsung Link app (but iinm Samsung Link app was discontinued LOL)

*
65 inch is a must requirement for your living space?

If you can live with Curved Screen, KS7500 should have stock there and here (the 65 inch variant should be roughly 8k to 9k now)

EDIT : Just checked, KS9000 still retarded price online HAHA.

Panel wise, more or less equivalent to QLED.

LG OLED is another nice alternative, but I believe their 65 inch variant is going way above RM15k now.

Well I'm not saying QLED is bad, it is a good decent higher mid end tier TV, great response time, great brightness, great contrast.

But at RM12k+, probably can start considering other brands as well.

For example, if you watch live action sport, you defo want to think about Sony set. If you can actually find Z9D (last year model) for a bargain, it's actually a good purchase as well.
