THE SECOND Google-branded mobile phone will hit the UK in time for Christmas through an exclusive deal with Carphone Warehouse, City A.M. has learned.

Its predecessor, the Nexus One, is the flagship device for the search giant, which is desperately trying to wrest market share from Apple’s iPhone.
The deal with Carphone represents a major rethink of Google’s sales strategy, with the Nexus One released exclusively in the UK through Vodafone.

An industry source said: “It looks like Google is experimenting with the future of its mobile model in the UK. It tried releasing through a single carrier, now it is trying a single retailer.
“It could be a solution to the problems it experienced when it tried to sell the Nexus One exclusively through its website. People like to be able to go to a store – this solves that.”

The Nexus One, built by HTC, failed to make a splash when it was released earlier this year, although Google’s Android software is now growing faster than phones powered by Apple or RIM.
The phone – dubbed the Nexus Two – is expected to run the new version of Android, codenamed Gingerbread. It is not yet clear who will manufacture it, although rumours surrounding a Samsung model are believed to be untrue. Both Google and Carphone dec

QUOTE
Has Google already created the follow-up device to its Nexus One?  According to reports today from the UK, the Nexus Two (we’ll call it) is built, loaded with Gingerbread, and will be sold exclusively through Carphone Warehouse by X-mas.  (Who?)  A company based out of the UK, meaning if this rumor is true, Google must already have some plans to hook up with a U.S. retailer to distribute this puppy stateside, right?

No news on any of the specs, but if we look back at the  Nexus One, you have to figure this will be the next developer phone and one that trumps almost anything else

If this rumour turns out to be true, I can only assume that Google did not want to announce it earlier so as to not affect the handset sales of its partners. Microsoft doesn't make it's own Windows machines for this reason too, the closest thing to that is the XBox360 which uses similar APIs.

but the best was that if this thing came out, Google lied.

Or maybe, kind of lied, if they sell it under some other companies rather than just selling it online. haha

4.3inch seems so not google-ish.. they would go for majority.. 4.0 would be the sweet spot and more universal accepted by users.. i personally prefer 4.3 but its unlikely to be..

since google already say there be no Nexus 2, maybe they will come out with different name?

Yesterday, I found this news in phonearena website..

QUOTE
Needless to say that the Google Nexus One will live on in memory as one of the most profound Android handsets to hit the market, but when asked about a potential successor, Google's very own Eric Schmidt noted that there were no plans for a second Google branded device.

However, some rather interesting pieces of news surfaced recently regarding a potential Google Nexus Two handset. This time is comes from British business paper City A.M. which sites that a Gingerbread on board Google Nexus Two will be ready in time for a launch this upcoming holiday season. However, it looks as though it'll be available in the UK with exclusivity going to popular retailer Carphone Warehouse. It's not certain from the report whether or not other regions around the world would see this mythical device, but the unnamed source goes on to say that it won't be manufactured by Samsung.

But when you think about the relationship that Carphone Warehouse has with Best Buy Mobile in the US, it's striking to say that Google has some prominent partners at hand if they were to indeed launch this device in time for the holidays.

So, does it true? Dunno yet as Google say nothing about it for now.. rumors spreading so fast.. And if Gingerbread is a real deal, then next developer device from Google is a must! nod.gif nod.gif

The Rumor

Google and Samsung will announce the “Nexus Two” at a press conference on November 8th in New York city. The phone will be the first device to ship with stock Gingerbread (Android 2.3) and it will be available soon on multiple carriers.

The Source

I have spoke with multiple, trusted sources familiar with the project who have shared the same story with me. They wish to remain anonymous.

true.. it would take months for it to arrive here.. but if its just an AOSP version of the GalaxyS series, its weird. The name nexus itself came from google meaning that its a google experience phone. Then google should have designed it themselves rather than letting samsung doing it. Having the same specs as a galaxyS is fine but they should have improved and give a lil more "google" touch up. Just a minor though though this device is just a rumor.

desire HD, IMHO, the battery is just not enough for that monster, saw the review at gsmarena.com, the 1200+ mAH can only last for less than 1 day with moderate use. really sad when i think of it....

Added on October 29, 2010, 8:50 amlatest rumor:

It's going to be announce on Nov 8 by SAMSUNG

The device will be the Nexus S
It will be branded as a Google experience device featuring Android 2.3
It will have the same 4″ SAMOLED screen seen on the Galaxy S devices
It will feature the same Hummingbird processor from the Galaxy S handsets
It will be easily rootable like the Nexus One was
It will be at least GSM, unknown about carrier or CDMA
It will have no hard buttons on the face, similar to a Vibrant

Samsung hardware (processor, screen) is great, it's the software that I don't trust. But if Google enforces stock Gingerbread 2.3, without any TouchWiz or Samsung "enhancements", it'll be a great phone.

If this is Nexus Two then.. I hope Google really know their performance before with Nexus One which's a flagship for the developer..
If not, still with Samsung's quality though.. Better go to SGS than Nexus S.. sad.gif sad.gif

Low weight is good, but I really hate the fingerprints the glossy plastic attracts. tongue.gif

They should choose the Teflon plastic used in the white HTC Hero. Keeps the phone light, and prevents smudges and fingerprints.

Exactly! The DHD has such a nice big screen, but doesn't look as good as the SGS's Super AMOLED. Anyway everybody knows that HTC is choosing SLCD not because SLCD is superior, but because Samsung is restricting the supply of AMOLED screens.

If I was Google, I'd build my own factories and produce a phone
- With the aluminum unibody of Legend

- Stock Gingerbread

Shape of iPhone4 only OK? Not body build of it because of percentage iPhone4 owners claimed their phone is higher than 3gs owner to warranty.. Why? Cracked body..  laugh.gif  laugh.gif

Haha yeah, just the shape. Nice and simple. But don't use glass, use the aluminium build of Legend.

But I much prefer the glass on iPhone 4 to the super-fingerprint magnet on the 3GS and iPod Touch. shakehead.gif I think most 3GS/Touch owners get a casing is because of the fingerprint issue. Can't be to make it look better, because bumpers make iPhones look ridiculous.

HTC Mecha with Hero's build form? Does it so promising for us then? hmm.gif  hmm.gif

Currently they're using HTC Hero's image as placeholder for HTC Mecha, that's why people assume it's going to be like Hero. But nobody knows for sure. tongue.gif

Great idea there! Software from HTC, Android OS and Samsung hardware.. But, Samsung wanna conquer their own brand I think.. That's what happened with SGS..

HTC can develop what software? HTC Sense inside google experience or AOSP phone?
then might as well go for DHD or ask HTC to build it laugh.gif

i like the concept of N1 especially the vanilla android but if they get a high end hardware from Samsung then it will be best on the both sides lol

the thing that likely missing is notification led, trackball, solid build and no physical button if it is made by Samsung

just my 2 cents

according to source, they already had their hands on the device...... it might not be nexus 2, but pretty sure it'll be nexus S, or a galaxy S with plain gingerbread and root-able....

for me i like MOTOROLA phone( i mean the outlook and the built quality), but i don like the company as i once owned a milestone and for me it really sucks that moto lock the bootloader and the slow update.
Imagine desire with sense skin upgraded to froyo much faster than milestone which has a plain android....

samsung i love he SAMOLED but don like the outlook of the galaxy coz of the plastic thingy which is a fingerprint magnet.... hehe...

for 4+ inches phone, i still think that HTC HD2 and MOTO droid X is the sexist.

at first i feel that the Galaxy S was chepo and fragile.. after dropping it few times, i know that it absorbs impact nicely and thank god to the gorilla glass.. There is not quite a real flaw of having a plastic build, its light and flexible. But hopefully it would be designed nicely. In my honest opinion, i always go for a casing so phone build is not much of something i would care about

for me it make no diff in body build feel... but if u buy the silver wan then it tends to get abit slippery as oil accumulate. the good side of this case is the back of your phone now can act as a mirror.. hehe

i think the black color has a matt surface so i think if u get that color then the slippery problem might not be there... hehe

I don't think any pictures posted will be the final Nexus S/2. Just look at iPhone, there is a hell lot of pictures leaked before it's release yet none of them came out as iPhone 4.

Unless of course you managed to find a video that shows the prototype phone. I'd guess that it might be the Galaxy S2 if it comes with Gingerbread.

i mentioned iphone as it is easier to be reference
but iphone4 itself is not unique
as symmetric design is as simple a flat, box alike, minimal curve
no brand can claim that as their design as it is simple and compact until almost no design

then it will let apple have a chance to sue them
although the design is not really special but apple is king of patent and will take every advantage to attack competitors

lol, I thought its already established that Apple will never be suing samsung because they use a lot of samsung components in iPhone and they will surely be using AMOLED from samsung in the near future.

samsung just supply some hardware to apple and that means apple legally buy the parts from samsung

Yup, that's true, but usually these kind of partnerships have an implicit understanding that you won't sue each other. If Apple suddenly sues Samsung, Samsung can make things more difficult for Apple by charging more for or denying them their hardware. Then Apple would have to spend time and money to find a new partner and change things at the factories.

it is not same with snapdragon but it is similar with hummingbird..
hummingbird is from samsung which based on cortex A8 and iphone also using A4 which is also based from cortex A8(samsung supply this chip to apple and they "propaganda" it with other name)..
they perform similar performance but using diff technology(like sgx 535 for iphone and sgx540 for galaxy s)

ya but qualcomm nvr use A8 as reference for design snapdragon but instead they start it from the scratch while hummingbird use and customize it

and hummingbird has powerful gpu for now compare to snapdragon which is another advantage although not much games in android need powerful graphic

think that mock up is a nexus class phone, not the nexus 2. think google will save that name for a more worthy phone. so probably a nexus class phone will be a google experience phone so it won't have the crap touchwhiz UI and probably easy to root

The rumors regarding the Nexus Two have been pretty fierce for the past few days. However, Samsung Electronics has decided to put an end to all this by saying that the rumor is “simply not true.”

The Android 2.3 running phone was rumored to launch on November 8 but according to the Samsung official, the event will see a Verizon phone aka Continuum being unveiled.

Continuum is a Galaxy S device that sports two displays – one acting as a main screen whereas the smaller one as a Ticker displaying email notifications, time, weather etc.

one reason google might want a nexus 2 or S is, they want a android phone with stock OS with updated hardware, which is might be hard is US because some carrier there tend to add unwanted software in their subsidized phone

lol they're sticking with the 'S" suffix. Wouldn't it be awkward if the phone in question is really made by Samsung after they've denied it?

Nothing to do with the hardware, but the PR and stuff... lol...

The Nexus S has passed through the FCC as the GT-i9020 and could be on display in Best Buy stores by November 14th according to a new rumor.  As you can see in the photo above, Engadget did a nice job of dropping the FCC approval image over top of the Best Buy ad to show that the phones match up perfectly.  Time to start Googling “GT-i9020″ over the next few days.
In related news, a shot of a Best Buy system has leaked out and shows that promotional materials could be ready for placement by the 14th of this month.  Yeah, we’re talking about this Sunday.  Crazy times.

In the battery compartment, the only different compare with SGS is by adding LED flash but external SD slot removed. Even the packaging box (if in the photo is the final) is same, only in different color.

Google CEO Eric Schmidt just jumped on stage at the Web 2.0 Summit and was immediately asked about a new device and a new OS by the presenters.
So what happened? He actually pulled it out to show off a location service. That’s beside the point though as the device was the story here.
From the quick blurry shot we grabbed above, you can see that it’s definitely a Samsung device, most likely the Nexus S.
Oh and notice the dark notification bar and green highlights? Hello Android 2.3.
He also mentioned that Gingerbread would be coming out in the “next couple of weeks.”

Eric Schmidt shows off a Nexus S at the Web 2.0 summit, says Gingerbread coming in 'next few weeks'
so gingerbread will be released in december if that correct,

This phone feature does looks cool. It makes me think that i should not upgrade my phone yet. I think i'll wait till next year to upgrade to a dual core phone.

personally, i still think that of all the 4+inches phone, HTC HD2 and MOTO DROID X have the best outlook. coz they have physical button.
