bro, even u using DSLR u also need to have skills to take great shot. you should ask yourself why other n8 user can take nice and clear pic why yours cant.. haha.. learn how to take it.. sometimes u need to know the exact setting u need for the scene..

i just point out the over expose problem sweat.gif

@Stanley: it over expose because the item you are focusing(the building) is too dark, hence the auto focus adjustment will set the exposure to a higher value...hence you see lights at the road are too bright...it's totally normal. If you want to have a more natural look of your photo, you can adjust the exposure value yourself..night shot you need to access some of the settings to make it look nice one, no choice
*
not that...
it the over expose.. a sharp finishes, which lead to very significant, seem like edited like paint. perhaps just hard to explain in words.. doh.gif

it's not really a 'problem' to say...it's just the way the auto exposure adjustment works...

no...it's the sharp end. normal dc have smoother edge.

other than that, the camera is great.

sharp edges?? as i recall the nokia guy damian mention the N8 camera would be one of those the make LESS process over the natural capture images... u might need to visit below (which already in FP, please give face at least read a bit from FP lah)  sweat.gif

morning....haha...nvm, sleep early is good de mah
i still don quite get the sharp end thing...mind pointing me out any obvious part of the image?

if you mean everything looks too sharp compared to DC, then i think it would be most likely be the case...this phone have big sensor, and less post processing for the photo, hence the end result of a photo would be sharper, resulting in more details...unlike normal DC, either too noisy or too smudgy due to the aggressive noise reduction processing
*
uh..no...both you get the wrong idea i'm talking abt.
as far as i seen, the problem seem only occurred on artificial light only...
i would show more detail when i have the time to cut and crop those what i meaning by "sharp edge of the over expose problem"...

I going to give one lucky person here

FREE HOTLINK HOT TICKET FOR INTERNET

Quota : 100MB
Time : 24 hours

I already have 500MB data plan so useless for me.

Who can answer this 4 questions the fastest and accurate gets it

1) Since Nokia N8 have the biggest sensor how big is it?
2) What is the minimum range to focus in closeup mode?
3) Can Nokia N8 auto focus in video recording?
4) Does the nokia N8 have an image stabilizer?
I got to go in 15mins. The winner ill pm the code directly.\

Good luck

1. 1/1.83
2. 10cm
3. yes. from 60cm to infinity.
4. no. If there is 1, it's control by ISO.

Did i got it right? rolleyes.gif

I read on this one
http://zomgitscj.com/2010/10/25/nokia-n8-r...-video-samples/
QUOTE
Here we were concentrating more on showing how the Focus of the N8 works, in video. The N8 uses a system called ‘Active Hyper-focal Distance’, which is a specific lens focus position which by using depth of field allows the greatest range from near to infinity for objects to appear in focus. The Nokia N8 uses a 28mm (35mm film equivalent) focal length Carl Zeiss lens. This provides a huge depth of field. But by using the hyper focal distance, this means objects placed between roughly 60cm and infinity should appear sharply focused. The drawback is, that it’s only effective for subjects which are beyond 60cm.

Hi N8 fanboy..  mind to share what fanboi I m in ah? biggrin.gif
It is basically a focus from 60cm to infinity fixed..  it is not an AutoFocus....

The crack to enable it to keep focusing is AutoFocus....  don't get fool by those term...

just like the other 3 Symbian^3's camera..  from 50cm to Infinity..  it is all Fixed Focus...

ok...regarding the over expose issue..
Please have a look/campare between dslr, dc and nokia n8

user posted image
this is the 100% crop of the photo just now

user posted image
have a look on the comment, the over exposure seem like edit by paint.

user posted image
over exposure on canon 450D DSLR, the edge of the over expose slightling smoother, if there is edited by paint, you will know it's edit by paint, unlike nokia n8

user posted image
another example, by dc.

all are crop at 100% view.

hehehe... if the bulb/light already over expose sure the shape will follow the items mah?? bulat things look bulat, oval thing look oval loh... already over expose what else u expect from the resulted images?? told u early liao only camera with HDR capability able to capture dark/light at the same time and with correct exposure for "most items"... come ask bro aspire for more HDR on light/dark images from his godlike fcam & n900...  whistling.gif

bulat.. but look at dc photo, it's bulat but not that obvious as n8 photo, i'm not pointing at the correct or incorrect exposure...

for me, to view a night scene photo but suddenly notice, eh, why there is a white circle thing? did someone edited the photo?
well.. get what i mean?

lol..but but but...my iDonKnowWhatIShouldCallIt also can do HDR wor...qualify as godlike phone kah?   blink.gif
the pure white round shape is due to the exposure, and also the distance of the light object. cos all the street lights and car lights are far away, and the exposure value is set to very high, hence u can see white small round shape...it's pretty common IMO
the reason why the normal digital camera have that 'glow' effect around the light is because the light source is nearer to the object(well, at least not a few hundred meters away), so the amount of light is too much, and it will have that effect...unlike the streetlights...

that's what i notice when i take pictures with long exposure time lar...i would need someone with better photography experience to correct me if i am wrong though
*
i had another 1 which in closer shot. the fluorescent light. but appear to be the same problem.

anyway i did email nokia last week about this problem. Hopefully next software update will solve this problem.

or perhaps it's due to n8 shutter is "cirle", thats why the light look round. dig more in dslr, and you find that some shutter are in 4 or 6 or 8 (i dunno how it call in eng. 快门叶片的形状,及多少快门叶片)
i just remember that the nokia n8 shutter is actually in a round shape...i think the problem is due to that?
