Good effort dude, considering you're not using a DSLR (including your other posts). You've got good composition and nice exposures. Perhaps you should add some notes about your shots like what building they are or location of the place... for the benefit of those who's not familiar.

Hoi.. tak ajak! I spotted that sunset from about 4:45PM as I was studying in uni. Proceeded to the law library next door, went up 5 floors, and snapped away till 5:30PM, when there wasn't enough light.

If I had brought my tripod I would've continued snapping pics of the uni buildings under early twilight!

Are you interested in catching the sunrise some time this week.. say wed/thurs/fri? I think the beach at Newport would be good for that. Trains depart before 5AM, so there's plenty of time to get ready..

P/S: your digicam time needs to be adjusted..

i dont find the leaves really that interesting, but the building shots are well done, except for the 'melbourne city'one. the linear distortion just doesnt work in that. oh, great coastal shot!! maybe a bit more contrast (try to deepen the darker end of the curve and keep the highlights) would be better? smile.gif keep it up!

Err... you've been eating up a storm??? It's all over the newpapers today! Anyway, here's a link to some photos taken by tourists who saw it crumble before their very eyes. Used your dad's D70 huh? Anyway, enjoy your holiday dude. Too bad my next meeting is held in Jakarta and not some place nicer... like Seoul or Shanghai... so don't think I can capture some nice shots like HK. sad.gif

Heya D_Y2k, nice additions to your gallery. The ducks are really colourful and adorable. thumbup.gif Jez realised that the 1st duck is actually a female Mandarin. I also like the romance candid shot... but think the trunk on the right is a slight distraction and the subjects are smack in the middle. Should look better if re-compose to the left and keep subjects to 1/3 on the right yes? Maybe there's something of a bigger distraction on the left? Anyway, your shots are good stuffs as always. thumbup.gif

Wow, that sure is sharp. I wish I have ISO400 sensitivity too!

I think you should try stopping down your telezoom - the photos look quite soft.

Here are some updates, yesterday while i was playing game, suddenly i saw this accident infront of my apartment:D unfortunately, without noticing my cam's settings, they were all taken under ISO200.As a result, slight blur.i think someone was kidnapped from an old car and later was rescued by the police. Here are some pics:

Seriously,i've wasted the opportunity to take nice pics on this event. The settings for most pics were ISO200,125/1sec,f7,300mm.

My take on the alley, the darker one provide the correct feel. I mean, most alleys are supposed to be dark anyway. The brighten one brought out the colours of the graffiti but the proper exposure gave the "back alley" kinda deserted feeling so you know which I prefer. smile.gif

Very nice tortie marked cat! Looks like a Ragdoll to me.

Interesting buildings and nice candid shots! Why dun you get a ultra-wide to play some angle there?

As to answer which exposure is preffered, I preffer tha 1st darker one...

deepyu, you can sometimes find some very nice abandoned cats in PAWS. Irresponsible owners who buy cute kittens and didn't like it when they grow up or don't want to "play" with cats anymore will dump them.

Interested? Go to http://www.pawsmalaysia.com/ to adopt a poor cat and give it a good home. smile.gif

D_Y2k, sorry for the OT. Just trying to spread some compassion for poor abandoned pets. Peace bro! smile.gif

Use your histogram for reference, I always have mine displayed on default. Doesn't the D70 or D50 have the blinking overexposure option? Slight overexposure is fine but too much, it will distract from a good picture.

Yeah, been real busy trying to close some contracts. Lost 1 but won another. Kinda bittersweet coz the one we lost was worth 11million. That would be a nice bonus... maybe enough to get a 20D! cry.gif

Nice evening sun you captured there smile.gif

Perfect time of the year too as the color of the leaves during fall match the warm sunshine on the building. If only the building on the right had equal amounts of sunshine too.

Btw, anymore pics of your college? Looks like a nice place. Kinda like University of Sydney with all the old buildings.

I like the 1st shot with the nice fountain. Playful kid is EXCELLENT! Very well composed and great timing catching his expression. thumbup.gif

Autosaloon - 1st shot looks cool! You're right, seemed a little under-exp overall but car shows are always very difficult to shoot without a bright lense. Overall, still a very good job. thumbup.gif

Beagle need lots of space to run around. Looks like your house has plenty of that.

I think you have to check your source link, bro. I checked the property and it says 236 x 375 pixels. When I copy and paste the URL, it's the same photo so you need to check your file on image bucket.

Taking night photos from darker areas are better to avoid lighting distraction. However,it may also be your white balance setting that affected your image:)

Low pressure sodium (deep orange) street lights are always going to look orange because they are orange. They are monochromatic with only one wavelength at 589 nm. They have no red, green or blue light to balance.

High pressure sodium lights (whiter orange) can sometimes be white balanced. Most cameras lack the range to do this. If your camera can, you can get the scene to look as if it is under white light and not the orange of the street lights!

you cant WB it imo

I think it is pretty hard to locate the correct WB in night shots.THere are all sorts of colours that are produced from night lights,e.g. blue, purple, red etc...
But so far I find that using Tungsten WB gives a more accurate colour production.Maybe you guys can try it out:)

hehe theoretically to make that starlight effect need a smaller aperture (hence longer exposure time) but practically i still havent really got a grip on it. it's either the light source is too far from my room... or i need to practise more vmad.gif mad.gif hehe rclxub.gif

Definitely Malaysia is cheaper. However,if you're in Melbourne, you may get it from Teds or Camera House at Elizabeth St in the City. But i'll have to warn ya,the salespeople there are very convincing:D

Here's an example of price difference:
In Mlaysai D40 is retailing for RM2399 whereas in OZ it is retailing at $999AUD (X 2.7 = RM2.7k roughly).Furthermore, you can't bargain as much there compared to Malaysia
