Google has officially put up a Gingerbread statue, so the official announcement of it cant be too far away. But Android 2.3?? Then it probably wont be the UI overhaul the rumours had been flying... |

I'm anticipating Blindtype will be the new keyboard in Gingerbread.
http://www.blindtype.com/ I've been informed by some book author that his Gingerbread book will be out in 3-4 weeks time, implying that the SDK will be released shortly before that. Google should put up the SDK after the initial update release (like it was with FroYo), so we might see Gingerbread in a week or so. Some N1 users are already re-flashing their sets to stock FroYo in anticipation of the Gingerbread OTA (I'm sticking with MIUI however |

What I hope from Gingerbread is a streamlined UI. As streamlined as iOS. And please new icon set; definitely not those Sense icons. They are horribly horrendous. That's my only expectation from Gingerbread.

indeed ya. hated the lock down iOS.
but during my time in WM. the icon really wow-ED me T.T in android, it's better, at least compare with WM. even in wm6.5, some icons still remain the ugliness of it. T.T |

The OS number/version is not important. What important is the changes. Minor change or total OS revamp.
Anyway, N1 will get the first taste of any new OS as usual. Hurray!! |

Yo bro why the f*** you care so much if the new version of Android confuses developers/manufacturers or not? You ain't a developer nor a manufacturer.
I for one as a user don't give a rat d*** if the new version confuses them or not. Do what ever they want to do, and do their best to keep me hooked. Else, I'll jump ship. As easy as that. I hooked (read: purchased Hero) the 1st time because the Sense UI and its physical design. Then I was liberated from it by vanilla UI and but hooked again by those constant improvement to CM. For the time being I won't jump ship because I'm more than happy to stay here. Jump to another Android phone? Yes but not now. This post has been edited by LEVIATHAN: Oct 26 2010, 08:54 AM |

So which part of compiling android program confuses you? You cannot setup different AVDs for different platforms? you didnt download the correct target revision? You hate ANT and rather do the compiling and linking manually? What? Come on, tell me. I want to know which area confuses an esteemed Android developer as yourself. Seems that even HTC execs are complaining their woes to you. Did you advise them accordingly? |

As a part-time Android developer, it's not a big deal. We generally develop for 2 groups - 1.5 and everything else (1.6-2.2). The reason is that only in 1.6 that support for different screen sizes and resolutions was introduced. Otherwise 99% of the code remains the same, we just have to tweak some settings to support different screen sizes. QUOTE(musclepower @ Oct 26 2010, 08:12 AM) as if things are not bad enuff ady, win7 fone does pawn android. Are you serious? Windows 7 has No multi-tasking, copy-and-paste, BlueTooth, file manager, SDCard support. How does it "pawn" Android? HTC already said they're splitting their concentrate 50-50 on Windows 7 and Android. They've already introduced lots of Windows 7 and Android phones. I agree. Everybody, please don't post anything less than a full coherent sentence. Anyway HTC is not famous for punctual updates. - I remember the HTC Hero took half a year for the 2.1 Eclair update. And they have no plans for a Froyo. - Legend's been out for a while too, and HTC did say they were going to release Froyo for Legend, but they still haven't and I bet they won't release Gingerbread for it. The only HTC phone that gets punctual updates is the Nexus One, and that's only because Google's making it the official developer's phone. |

QUOTE(whitegoh @ Oct 26 2010, 06:04 PM) yeah, if only google does it properly, it'd be good for everybody. maybe they need the vision and leadership of steve jobs to guide them thru. google may be the search engine and internet king but in mobile, they suck. not evrybody can revolution different products de way apple did it. coming back to the topic, for all their corporate talk, i've got a feeling htc will do what makes sense to them, abandon the confused android market and change to the more streamlined and controlled windows 7 ecosystem. |

QUOTE(musclepower @ Oct 27 2010, 08:27 AM) he may be the greatest tech visionary of our time but do not make de mistake of worshipping as a deity. Seriously, kentang. If you're gonna make a dupe, please have that effort to at least change your posting style. Using 'de' as the cool substitute for 'the' is a dead giveaway. its blastfermi! |

If we let Steve Jobs guide Android, we'll all have to sync with iTunes, there'll be no BlueTooth file transfers and no Flash or Java.
