Hi guys,

Planning to get some speakers for my ps3 . Currently connected to a Samsung 40" , with not much space left in my living room.

Thinking of going for soundbars , something like :

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Philips-HTS8100-So...d/dp/B000RT675G

Budget is about RM3k , but stretchable to RM5k if need be.

I've been told soundbars aren't as good as bookshelf/standing speakers ?

Suggestions welcome !

I sometimes do house parties , and having a whole fleet of speakers around just takes up too much space tongue.gif

And thanks to Alex_tan168 who pointed out the Yahama,

I'm now looking at the Yahama YSP-4100 or Marantz ES7001 smile.gif

but still open to any other suggestions, either sound bars or bookshelf speakers.

interesting smile.gif anybody knows why the sony can be priced so much cheaper than the samsung , but still have a subwoofer ?

I know the samsung has wireless streaming etc, but don't think that's worth 700+USD more .

i think, soundbar can never beat cheap htib.. but since your priority is space constraint, it should be fine..

you'd be suprised. I've tired plenty of 5.1/7.1 systems but they just don't satisfy. Ideally I would have gone with a good 2.1 system, just too bad nobody makes them for TV's

Yamaha Sound Bar YHT-400 is quite a good one, priced reasonably at RM1800 below if you're on a budget. Getting the YSP-4000 (Sound Projector) isn't gonna make the sound much more fantastic IMHO... This is based on reviews and checking 'em out. Again, Sound Bars and Sound Projectors are ok for movies but sucks at music. They definitely aren't as good as bookshelfs speakers, especially so for music.

I'd recommend the Yamaha ones because they have HDMI inputs and output.

For me I went ahead with a Yammy 467 with 2 front tallboys, centre, surround and a sub for below RM4k eventhough I have a very small living room (10'x12' area with only a 8' wall for the tv and hts)... Sounds good for me. Someone else bought the 467 with 5 yammy bookshelf speakers and sub set for less than RM3k.

I'm considering getting the YHT-400 soundbar for the bedroom when I mount my old 32" on the wall in it...

anyway soundbar will be most effective in a close room with 4 walls so sound can be bounce back effectively smile.gif

Anything else you compared the Yamaha to ?

Ideally I would want something that does music equally well as movies. I don't mind getting a 2nd set of bookshelf speakers just for music, but not sure if this setup is possible ? to have 2 different speakers connected to 1 tv / ps3 without an amp.
