hi all, i got my sapphire 6870, and to my surprise, it isnt using reference cooler from AMD. it consist a black dual slot cooler with some sort of heatpipe underneath and i think the fan is slightly bigger than the AMD reference one, looks cool but dunno about its performance fully.

i run a simple tessellation stress test using GPU caps viewer and my result is ~44c idle and ~67c full load, my ambient temperature is the standard temperature of our country's noon time.

my question is, is this the better cooler compared to the reference one? all of the reviews i can find consist of the standard reference from AMD.

not sure how u test, im running 600x600 resolution on gpu caps viewer. tested for about 30mins the temperature never rise further than 67c.

one more thing, what i found was, based on gpuz logs running in the background, i played NFS hot pursuit / Crysis warhead, the temperature not even come near to 65c. does this mean games are less taxing on gpu processing?

slower by 10%(maybe) but cheaper to produce by a wide margin as compared to the monster 580. this is why it is worth to produce. if u recall pass history, AMD/ATI doesnt have the fastest card to compete with nvidia, but a better value card overall.

i c, 80C is kinda high man, i will have a try later. btw, how high u can OC this card?1ghz? i mean without the voltage bumping.

the best is an open casing with a fan blowing in that direction, thats what i did, the fans blow me and the casing one stone kill two bird

yup true, so i always clean once every 2-3months, but worth since the temperature that i getting for cpu and gpu

u didn read the previous post, is not about the top performance, is about the value. value:performance is what matters, and more importantly the profit margin that the graphic manufaturer can earn.

Let me recall:


AMD 4xxx series, loses to nvidia GT2xx series, GT285 pawns 4890.

AMD 5xxx series, loses to nvidia GT4xx series, GTX480 pawns 5890.


and few months ago, AMD overtook nvidia in discreet graphic card market. for me, i dont care the fastest graphic, i want an overall better value.

the pricing for 6970 and 6950 damn ridiculous, it make my 6870 outdated so fast just overnight ................

double check with the price, yes it is true and it 6950 might cost around RM1100++ when launched here. so it wont cannibalize 68xx series after all , if it cost rm900++ then nobody will buy 68xx already.

hmm, if the 53% higher price tag as compare to 6870 with near to 50% performance gain then it is worth

6900 arch is slightly different from the previous generation 5800 arch. Anandtech gives a detailed explanation of the which worth to read. 6870 owners, anyone experiencing graphic corrupts or glitches? it only happens to older games especially Warcraft III. But everything was smooth under newer games; those using DX10 and DX11. Stress test the graphic card using Furmark and 3Dmark 2006(since it only happens to older games) doesnt produce the same graphic glitches, I am totally lost here. I wanna RMA but some feedback says otherwise, some saying it was due to driver issue.

did any new 6XXX series owner ; 6850, 6870, 6950, 6970 having problem with older games? Like warcraft III? graphic glitches and corrupt especially in menu. I want some comments else im taking my 6870 to RMA.

yup, exactly. u having this too? i really cant stand it, although the problem was small, but it was annoying.

10.12 too, i use 10.10, all versions of driver gave the same results. i running at 1280x1024.

so u did face same issue as me too?

mine happens on few older games like Oblivion(only in menu, but in game works fine), quake4 and doom3. but in all new games, no problem at all.

Two questions: So how do u fixed it? or wait the new driver release?

And does it usually happened on new graphic cards, regardless of nvidia or ATI/AMD? I mean this issue of flickering, glitches, corrupts on graphic...etc.
