hi all, i got my sapphire 6870, and to my surprise, it isnt using reference cooler from AMD. it consist a black dual slot cooler with some sort of heatpipe underneath and i think the fan is slightly bigger than the AMD reference one, looks cool but dunno about its performance fully. see more here http://www.sapphiretech.com/presentation/p...sn=0001&pid=981i run a simple tessellation stress test using GPU caps viewer and my result is ~44c idle and ~67c full load, my ambient temperature is the standard temperature of our country's noon time. my question is, is this the better cooler compared to the reference one? all of the reviews i can find consist of the standard reference from AMD. QUOTE(chenhui87 @ Dec 13 2010, 10:28 AM) yes, normally the custom cooler is better in cooling~my reference cooler load temp is abt 80C, u r 10+C cooler~ not sure how u test, im running 600x600 resolution on gpu caps viewer. tested for about 30mins the temperature never rise further than 67c. one more thing, what i found was, based on gpuz logs running in the background, i played NFS hot pursuit / Crysis warhead, the temperature not even come near to 65c. does this mean games are less taxing on gpu processing?

QUOTE(owikh84 @ Dec 13 2010, 08:42 AM) Yes 6970 is slower than GTX580, i smelled this when AMD delayed releasing it few weeks ago. Duno why they even make this 69xx if cant beat GTX580. slower by 10%(maybe) but cheaper to produce by a wide margin as compared to the monster 580. this is why it is worth to produce. if u recall pass history, AMD/ATI doesnt have the fastest card to compete with nvidia, but a better value card overall. Added on December 13, 2010, 12:00 pmQUOTE(fatalynx05 @ Dec 13 2010, 11:15 AM) bro when u played nfs hot pursuit.. did u encounter a bit lag at certain area? dont have bro, very smooth, maxed out everything... QUOTE(Smackers @ Dec 13 2010, 01:24 PM) Hye there,i've got the exact same card like yours from sapphire.u can refer pics a few pages back which i posted in this thread.Apparently i have to use TriXX to custom the fan profile instead of using automatic fan profile. So did u stress test using auto profile or custom? My idle temps is similiar with yours but at 23% fan speed ( auto fan profile ) but could go up to 80++'C at Furmark's stress test.maybe u could try using FurMark as well. i c, 80C is kinda high man, i will have a try later. btw, how high u can OC this card?1ghz? i mean without the voltage bumping.

QUOTE(TristanX @ Dec 13 2010, 03:50 PM) Bro, if u want cooler hardware, you gonna have to go bigger casings with good airflow. Heat will accumulate much faster on small casings. the best is an open casing with a fan blowing in that direction, thats what i did, the fans blow me and the casing one stone kill two bird

QUOTE(teknokrasi @ Dec 13 2010, 10:56 PM) Disappointed with new HD6970. Big fat AMD execs don't have idea to run discreet graphics business. Added on December 13, 2010, 10:59 pmGo buy HD5970 or 2HD 6870s(Crossfire) for smooth and crisp gaming experience. u didn read the previous post, is not about the top performance, is about the value. value:performance is what matters, and more importantly the profit margin that the graphic manufaturer can earn.

QUOTE(8tvt @ Dec 14 2010, 09:45 PM) through benchmark? i believe amd concept is not like that.. Let me recall: AMD 4xxx series, loses to nvidia GT2xx series, GT285 pawns 4890. AMD 5xxx series, loses to nvidia GT4xx series, GTX480 pawns 5890. and few months ago, AMD overtook nvidia in discreet graphic card market. for me, i dont care the fastest graphic, i want an overall better value.

QUOTE(sai86 @ Dec 15 2010, 12:32 PM) Holy, AMD sure did the right thing the price is juz so good to be true. Its time to CF 69xx double check with the price, yes it is true and it 6950 might cost around RM1100++ when launched here. so it wont cannibalize 68xx series after all , if it cost rm900++ then nobody will buy 68xx already.

QUOTE(Racerx @ Dec 15 2010, 12:45 PM) i saw a HD6950 going for RM1150 only in garage sales. hmm, if the 53% higher price tag as compare to 6870 with near to 50% performance gain then it is worth

QUOTE(zerorating @ Dec 15 2010, 02:22 PM) what 50$ more, its 20$ more, there also some cases that hd5870 faster than hd6970,some reviewer got that result, some reviewer also stated that the newer driver are faster, but to bad they already done the review first with the preview driver oh well, disappointment still disappointment 6900 arch is slightly different from the previous generation 5800 arch. Anandtech gives a detailed explanation of the which worth to read. A quick simple explanation in short would be older games might run slightly slower in 6900, and newer upcoming games DX11 in particular runs faster. http://www.anandtech.com/show/4061/amds-ra...adeon-hd-6950/4

QUOTE(swenv6 @ Dec 27 2010, 11:40 PM) ATI always got driver issues...last time when using AGP newer driver cannot work with XP.....old driver can....kinda weird.....now 5870 best with 10.9..10.10-10.12 enable hardware on youtube will get blank screen then catalyst driver stop responding...haih..never encounter this issue with nvidia. hopefully they can produce good driver in the future.. does this mean the problem i encountered is ATI/AMD driver problem?

QUOTE(Lacus @ Dec 30 2010, 11:29 PM) Using 10.12 though. did some research, apparently it's a known issue and most likely is cause by drivers. what resolution are you running it on? 10.12 too, i use 10.10, all versions of driver gave the same results. i running at 1280x1024.

QUOTE(Lacus @ Dec 30 2010, 11:55 PM) well thats weird, most likely we have to wait for the next driver released to confirm this. (running my warcraft III at 1920x1080 though) so u did face same issue as me too?

QUOTE(Lacus @ Dec 31 2010, 12:17 AM) Only on warcraft III. Not on other games so far. Other games still work fine. mine happens on few older games like Oblivion(only in menu, but in game works fine), quake4 and doom3. but in all new games, no problem at all.

QUOTE(Kr0ll3R @ Dec 31 2010, 04:35 AM) YESH, finally a reply on this. I tot it's just me. I posted here a few weeks go, asking any1 having this issue but no reply. Guess it's the driver problem that causes this? On my old rig, no problem. Smooth with avg fps 60. I tot the GC too powerful to handle such an old game Oh ya, with my old rig, I get avg 60fps but I'm having the same fps with my new rig also. Tot will get bit higher like 65-68fps. Max for War3 is 60fps? Two questions: So how do u fixed it? or wait the new driver release? And does it usually happened on new graphic cards, regardless of nvidia or ATI/AMD? I mean this issue of flickering, glitches, corrupts on graphic...etc.
