[WTA] 6850 vs 6870 in oc performance

MSI HD 6850

Gigabyte HD 6870

6850 achieved a 973Mhz and 6870 964Mhz...

Wanna ask why 6850 got so much oc potential of nearly 200Mhz increased, yet 6870 is like a lil bit low in oc only 64Mhz increase??

Btw the 2 cards differ by at least RM 150, is it worth to buy 6870 than 6850?why?

thanks sifu sifu~

that one use voltage tweak, not as stable
but most higher end amd cards are like dis oso, less oc headroom

to me, better get that 6850, can reach 6870 performance.
no point in buying 6870 with such a small headroom for oc.
its not that 6870 is bad, you can oc and still get more performance from it,
but 6850 simply better price to performance ratio

tldr;
6870 not worth, better wait 6950/6970

In between 6850 & 5850, which one should I grab ? Or any other better suggestion ?
*
get 5850 for performance
6850 better in terms of power consumption, as its only use 1 6 pin cable
1 6pin pcie cable gc oso means 400w psu friendly gc...lol, if your psu is 400-450w

I think its just rumor la...q2 2011 is too soon
amd sure are preparing, but I think the date would be q3 2011.

NO 6xxx didnt meant to replace the 5xxx but to fill the gaps n OWN the mid-end market entirely!! 5870>6870>5850>6850 are the correct arrangement. dont tell me 5770 is in between 5870 and 5850? LOL

yup.new naming scheme confuses ppl.
it was named 6850 and 6870 cos 5770 is apparently too successful... whistling.gif
so, if they name it to 6750 and 6770, ppl would lose interest with the 5 series line up.
they dont want to replace a good selling card, they want to keep them as long as they can, hence the new naming scheme.

when ppl lose interest in 5 series,
they will rename 5770 to 6770...lol

http://www.guru3d.com/news/ati-might-renam...n-5570-to-6770/

ps: theres a typo...it should be 5770, not 5570 like the header.the news content is fine
