Linus has MSI HD6870 and he's done with the review. Wow! That's fast for AMD to push new front-line.

seeing the tom's chart, there is no reason for 5850 price to drop that much, since 5850 is easily to be OCed to 5870 performance.. correct me if i'm wrong????

i dont think AMD need to drop 5850/5870 as well, it wont help them. They have upcoming products to replace their 5850/5870 in just few weeks, the only reason i can think of dropping 5850/5870 is to clear stock. and btw, 6870 is quite a good replacement for 5850 as well.

quoted from tomshardware: " In this test, we see a notable gain from the Radeon HD 6850 overclock, but not much from the Radeon HD 6870's best effort."

So I assume in that chart, 6870 OCed at the best effort, So 5850 still win after all.

I'm thinking now AMD only giving out the 1120 shaders version of 6850 for review purpose.. great strategy if it is true lol (although unethical biggrin.gif )

QUOTE(akash3656 @ Nov 4 2010, 07:20 PM)
I will say HD 6870 slighly better than HD 5850.... slower than HD 5870 its not a successor but CHEAPER + power efficient
HD 6850 replaces the HD 5830 which really really crippled card.. Slower than HD 5850 (but not much)

Reason why ATI/AMD (whichever name you prefer) decided to name the 6800 series as they are right now is because the HD 5770/5750 is selling very well. AMD doesn't wanna hurt the sales by naming the product HD 6700 series. But I still think it should be named 6700. Anyway... I wonder what Cayman X 2 will be called....
Sice Cayman will be = 6900 will the X2 be called 6900X2 like the 4870X2?

Are you kidding me? bro do more research carefully, on stock clock 6870 is still slower than stock 5850. 6870 becomes SLIGHTLY better than stock 5850 after it is overclocked (yeah 6870 is not overclock friendly). But if you want to compare OC 6870 VS OC 5850, man 5850 win way too far, remember 5850 is overclockable to 5870 performance. rclxm9.gif

Yeah I just did some reading, and its true i found out that on benchmark the 6870 is slightly higher than 5850 result.

And yes this is my XFX5850 3dmarkVantage result on stock clock:
Attached Image

I just realize if 6870 has really high GPU clock @900 !! so just for fun i set my 5850 both gpu and memory clock to the same clock as your 6870 and run the benchmark again:

so conclusion so far, 6870 stock is sightly higher than 5850 on benchmark. But in the game is different story, ask someone else to test it lol.

why la so butthurt until put only a game to compare ,
look at the others too.
*
Not butthurt bro, just dont want to mislead people with some fracture facts.. As I know AVP really make use fully the VGA so testing the cards with this game is relevant. I don't think people in tomshardware simply choose that game either. I'm learning too here. on another note, I dont have reason to be butthurt since i bought my XFX 5850 brand new for RM 850 from a forumer here lol. lain cerita if i bought it @ RM1k+ whistling.gif why ah bro? you butthurt ah? lol

This is what I wanted to see......5850 has lots of horsepower brows.gif

yeah btw I didnt show it in the 2 pictures i posted. Despite my 5850 is non-reference (cant change voltage), I only able to hit 915/1175 (score 19k) - but its just for benchmark purpose, i feel like running on that mentioned clock to play game for hours is torturing my card.

I believe those reference card can go higher than that easily laugh.gif

BTW I also have this from my previous Sapphire (non reference) 5830:

Anyone with 6850 wanna post up their score? whistling.gif

You should play every games available pretty well smile.gif Most games are very GPU dependent and thus a strong GPU would benefit you more, unless you're playing games that are processor intensive e.g Starcraft II and GTA IV.

I'm not completely sure, but i think its true unless he plays GTA4
