question about installing a catalyst hotfix.
do i install over the original driver (seeing that its a hotfix)
or do i do the whole uninstall + driversweeper thing?

Added on November 16, 2010, 5:53 pmnevermind. It seems 10.10e is a full on driver package, not some upgrade/fix

haha yeah the reason I wanted to install 10.10e hotfix (my first time installing a cataylst hot fix tongue.gif) is to test out the MLAA
So far I like it, but since its a post-processing method, I see a lot pixel popping when there are a lot of movements. In screenshots/idling, it looks great.

The only problem with MLAA is that it will mess up your IE, FF4 beta and WLM2011. It will turn out fuzzy, like water spilled on ink
like this

I had this happened to me on my WLM2011. The only way I fixed it was uncheck MLAA in Catalyst then close and relaunch WLM2011:)

But if using MLAA on 10.11, your interface on WLM, IE or photoshop will be distorted since nothing on 10.11's release notes mentions about any fix this problem.

Unless you wanna test a bit, stick to 10.10e since it also enables MLAA on 5800 series by default

meh all these physx talk. Physx is overrated. Personally, given a choice of either going hybrid or CFX, i'd choose crossfire. More game companies should implement havok physics into their games tongue.gif

if your WLM or whatever application is affected by MLAA, uncheck MLAA in Catalyst and then close and re-open your WLM or whatever application.

No need to restart your pc

5850 only 3monitors.
one of the 3monitors need to be connected via display port.

Currently ati(dunno about nvidia) can only support 2 digital outputs.

Either:
dvi+dvi+display port/vga
dvi+hdmi+display port/vga

but who uses vga anymore? unless your monitor doesnt have display port option only vga

Correction: that's 3 digital output....

And the 2 DVI ports on 5850 supports analog VGA readily... with a passive adapter (as with most DVI ports on GCs)

DP can be converter to analog VGA cheaply though (with a powered plug-in converter)...

i dunno if some cards come with vga port..so i just put it there just in case biggrin.gif

even though your questions have been answered, this is just to kill your curiousity. Y-cables do exist.

First-generation

CrossFire was first made available to the public on September 27, 2005.[1] The system required a CrossFire-compliant motherboard with a pair of ATI Radeon PCI Express (PCIe) graphics cards. Radeon x800s, x850s, x1800s and x1900s came in a regular edition, and a 'CrossFire Edition' which has 'master' capability built into the hardware. 'Master' capability is a term used for 5 extra image compositing chips, which combine the output of both cards.[2] One had to buy a Master card, and pair it with a regular card from the same series. The Master card shipped with a proprietary DVI Y-dongle, which plugged into the primary DVI ports on both cards, and into the monitor cable.

Current generation (CrossFireX)

With the release of the Radeon X1950 Pro (RV570 GPU), ATI has completely revised CrossFire's connection infrastructure to further eliminate the need for past Y-dongle/Master card and slave card configurations for CrossFire to operate. ATI's CrossFire connector is now a ribbon-like connector attached to the top of each graphics adapter, similar to nVidia's SLI bridges, but different in physical and logical natures.[5] As such, Master Cards no longer exist, and are not required for maximum performance.

Old news/tech anyway. Just to show Y-cables existed smile.gif

you dont really use AA with MLAA..
you can turn off AA and use only MLAA and still get good results..

Yeah....the 6950 is a better buy
Since you can even unlock it to a 6970 ~_~
*
wasnt it stated before that the 6950 has to be amd's default hsf design.
i doubt that the unlock would work if its used on a design that is different from amd's stock design.

maybe because you have to reverify windows after you change out any major component of the pc which he does quite often on his test bench.

QUOTE(Riddhy @ Mar 1 2011, 03:21 PM)
its not worth it guys  definately its not even 2x6950s even if it is its downclocked those who want to buy a single 6990 just get 2x 6950s at rm 900x2 and unlock to 6970 and cf

those who want to cf 6990 just get 3x6950 and unlock it because cf 6990 has 4 gpus and no games use 4 gpus except metro 2033 for nvidia and fps is lower than 3 cards when u use 4 cards

same goes with gtx 590 tri sli gtx 570 is better than sli gtx 590 if gtx 560 could do tri sli then it would havee been more awesome
*
newer batches of 6950 has the 6970bios unlock trick fixed
still its actually more worth it to buy 2x 6950 than a single 6990 that is if assuming 6990 is going to be underclocked versions of its siblings gpus
