Apparently Sony may region lock NEW PS3 game releases via the new 3.50 SDK. PS3Gen reports on the story:

While Sony had surprised everyone by not only zoned games on PS3, unlike the PS2 or the PS1, it seems that this idea can be challenged in the near future.

Since the advent of the SDK 3.50, it is possible for official developers restrict their PlayStation 3 games at a specific region.

For information, be aware that verification of the region of the disc was in fact quietly implemented since the 3.30 firmware but was not yet usable by the studios.

region lock probably is more for online gamers...probably in the US complaining players from other region flooding the server...causing lag...blah blah blah...

Asian Consoles are tied to US Consoles in some way. Our Blu Ray Region spells A, so its most likely you get to play Asian (R3) and US (R1) region ones if this really goes in.

Then again, who knows for sure?

No need to buy like that. Now R3 = R1 unless it's one of those japanese games. Only people who buy R2 got problem because got region lock like WRC 2010.

Aiyah, all no need to make a big ruckus, first of all:

1) Sony have not make official announcement on this, might be fake after all.
2) Even if it turn out to be real, it only affect new game judging from the news and your old collection are pretty safe.

Anyway, lets stay tune

As for R1 & R3 covers, sometime R3 covers are more cool. For example R3 Naruto (english version) cover has the Naruto word in Japanese compared to R1 cover which is in English words.

I also collect R1. Why? Covers looks nice. Baru feel ori..unlike some R3 covers..mcm beli kat pasar malam..(jiran sebelah ahem covers lagi cantik laaa)

Kalau la rumors ni betul, hope in the future R3 covers mcm WE2011 or FF13 la..sedap mata memandang..

most of my game r3.... i think i have less than 5 games is R1 the rest 50+- all R3 and1 R2 onli.

aside from the game you posted,which i'm not sure is true or not since i've never touched it, some PSEYE games are also region locked-they wont load properly.
but aside from those,there's no widespread issue of this(unless WRC 2010 is considered widespread? )

Very easy only,since ps3 wants to create so many fuss to players, just sell off ps3 and buy xbox360. From now on say no to ps3 but yes to xbox360.

It's not true. Region locking on games was already there as an option for developers since day one. So far only 2 games got region locked. Like that also want to panic?

Also, don't believe in any source that comes from hacking websites. The only people that have any reason to panic about region locking are the morons who use jailbreak.

thing is, this type of bs always happens,and people always get worked up for no reason.

and as always, they'll skip the facts and straight away play the blaming game.

speaking of facts, here are a couple:

1)we dont know what the(supposed) region lock inserted together with the firmware does.
is it for games?or for apps?or both?or neither?! hell,is there even such a thing to begin with?cos this is the first time i've heard of it.
whatever it is,the screenshot they showed certainly is from an APP.
so if they region lock an app like netflix,what's the harm?
it's not like we're ever gonna get it,as it's US ONLY.

2)websites need hits-sensationalising something is bound to generate hits. this is one good example. skewer the facts and take advantage of gullible people.-instant traffic
