Rangers, does your unit has the display/colour problem?

Yesterday I didn't test the video, altough I notice the camera capture has some issue on the display, I thought was the lengs. Today I capture few video and take a good look and notice more problems. Then I tried playing the Tron trailer... I notice the colour/display is bad,...
I tried NFS Shift and have same issue. Somehow viewing picture seems ok???

Does your unit has same problem? Or is it mine have problem? I might need to go Nokia Shop and compare with the demo set tomorrow....

Here's a sample, not so obvious in video recorded though, but you can see it:

Andy,

From the video, can't really see what's the problem..tested mine just now both on screen and 32" LCD seems ok.. sweat.gif
*
Erm, I think its maybe my N8 AMOLED display or some graphic problem... Did you notice the black to other color problem? I don't know how to explain, seems like not enough colour or too big pixel, etc. I know there is somewhat similar problem if we set our pc display 256 colour, or downloaded a poor quality video, or maybe its the resolution. I don't know at the moment, can't process... My N900 seems ok, N97 seems ok too, of course, these two can't playback HD quality video.....

Anybody has any ideas? I saw some video posted by some others, including another ranger, seem like nt so obvious. Probably I need to visit Nokia shop tomorrow and check out the demo set...

I think its normal. did u set the brightness to maximum?
*
Nope. Set to level 2, one bar below middle.
I have tired all different brightness, and also remove the screen protector also same.

Maybe is ormal, but I'll need to double check with the demo set and see first...

Tested photos... have same problem... very obvious for black blending to other colour. I also have one photo taken from N900, it showed well on N900, but on N8 the have the colour problem. Guess have to check out the demo set to compare...

Here's a rough sample how my N8 screen show the difference:
Original File, if you view in PC, there is no layering, the colours blend well and smooth:

But on my N8, it looks something like this.....

The problem is more obvious. It looks as if you're in 16 color mode.
*
The photo I edited with 'auto enhance colour' mode to make the picture look more clear; Basically, on the N8, you can see "layering", which is especially obvious on the black colour blending to other colours, you can see layers, which is in pixels. Not really sure how to explain technically.
I tried viewing the same picture on the N900 and it looks normal unless I put the brightness to maximum, then I can see some layering, but still not as bad as my N8.

Anybody have N8 care to try to put the picture on your device and view it?

I search through the settings, there is no way to adjust the colours or contrast, or other display settings; only have light sensitivity, which is brightness I suppose?
On camera mode, I notice the brightness/contract is high so if I'm in a room, I will notice the quality on the display isn't good, but the image if display on PC looks normal. I adjust the contrast to lowest and the display much better. Hm.... hmm.gif

Maybe you can do a full factory reset just to see if everything comes back to normal? Better back up!
*
I think one of the ranger did a reset and the "special" apps provided/pre-installed were gone.

If confirm others have no such problem, then I think my 2nd last resort is to do a factory reset; When all else fail, will need to send N8 to Nokia ICU already. cry.gif

*
Nope, not dirty, its the stars... Both the N8 I set to maximum brightness.

You notice the right one have 'layerings'. And the stars are visible, I think the default contrast/brightness is too high? But there no option for us to adjust these? I set the brightness to lowest still have similar problem.

Need to try a hard reset but read that I will loose OVI store 2.0, which cannot be reinstall. Any dieas?

Tried reinstall firmware using Nokia Software Updater & OVI Suite; seems the like just factory reset instead of hard reset.

Tried the hard reset method..... Will go through the setup screen when you first start your device....

Result: Still same..... My N8 need to masuk NCC ICU already...

Rangers,

Did anyone check with Nokia staffs that day if we have problems with our device, can we send in to NCC straight or have to go through them first?
If we can send in straight, is there any specific centre only?

Send to NCC straight. No need to go thru them since the IMEI code is in their database im sure they will be able to warranty for you wink.gif.

The less functions an OS the less bug it has.
By limiting the OS the coders can ensure the smooth usage but reduced functionality.
This is what Apple do.Symbian is more complex & Nokia has consistently added new functions to it(multi touch, otg etc2).That's why Symbian got more bug.Nokia need to stop keeping their product secret & give away some of it so normal users can test it extensively. This is the only way to iron out all the bugs.

Speaking of bugs,if you guys tried meeGo I'm very sure some of you will get very frustrated.Got a major bug on shutdown initiation laugh.gif

neopwn still isn't complete.Once it's complete then users can try hacking rest of stuff.

In short; Maemo has is strength as well as it's weakness. Personally, for the OS, like MeeGo, it's a class above smartphone range OS; After all, Maemo is a Tablet OS, and the possibilities and flexibility is very wide, also on the customization, many things can be done. There is Chromium port (Google Chrome for Linux), there is mplayer, there is VLC player, there is full Java can run Java Applets, for programmers, you can even install NetBeans, there are applications for JB for PS3, there are aMSN (Desktop version MSN for Linux), so much more. But it really lacks the "power" to support all those.

Godlike or not, depends on each person definition/preference; Technically, it's a powerful device; If someone don't like Nokia, then close one eye on the branding thing. The OS itself is powerful and great. But the phone functionalities is very poor; can't believe it's from the same company which provides great phone function.

Just my cheap 2 cents "lah"; call it godlike or whatever; love your own device and OS. Each device and OS has their own target Customers or Customers that prefers them.

Now back to N8; Already send my N8 to NCC ICU... face some problems and go through several hassle. Anyway, already emailed to Radiance/Paolo to follow up with Nokia.

Btw, after I hard reset, I can't play those demo videos anymore, it shows license missing or expired?

I heard another rangers also send in his device to NCC?

Well...Thats the price that N900 users paid for buying phone with dead OS.
But the community really did lots of things.Reviewers complain that N900 support MMS,community came up with fmms, another group criticize N900's crappy camera & again open source community(Standford Students) came up with DSLR class fcamera. There are plenty of things done without Nokia's support.

Since Nokia is gambling everything on MeeGo I doubt they will pull stunt MeeGo like they did on Maemo. You can expect proper support.
Desperation to play Asphalt5 forced me to install Android.Turn out N900 can operate Android just fine.
*
Somehow I wished MeeGo never come into picture...
In my personal opinion, MeeGo doesn't look better than Maemo; Maemo is unique as it's an Internet Tablet OS, which has it's own category of users; Now if MeeGo is different (I feel its Android-ish), then those Maemo category of users will no longer have proper replacement OS, they'll need to "switch".
Finally, Maemo still sounds way cool than MeeGo; So does Android.

Yup, when MeeGo was announce and was speculated will not be available official for N900; It kind of create "havoc" in maemotalk and other sites, there's one famous blogger/site fed up, giving up and said the same thing. Me GO!

What do you mean?

Are you able to open facebook desktop version or it automatically redirect you to the mobile site everytime?

N8 still has no full Flash support yet.

btw...it makes me sad when people apply the term 'jailbreak' on any other thing then iphone sad.gif
seems like that stupid term is getting popular by days?
*
True! It only applies for iPhone due to it's overly-strict restrictions that makes one feels like in a jail.

For others, all the while, it's been crack, hack, etc.
I don't know why they call PS3 JB, but since call it that way....
