Problems in cars are never measured on a case by case basis. Its always taken on a general note and generally Proton cars have been problematic. The first few generations actually had much lesser problems than those produced from 2000 onwards. The reason for this is because from 2000 Proton ramped up their production due to increased sales. Sadly, their QC wasnt up to par and overall quality suffered.

Most of us started with a Proton. I too started with a Proton Wira in 2001 and sadly for 2 yrs my car spent most of its time in the Proton service centre. Many major parts were changed but since it was under warranty it didnt burn a hole in my pocket. The aircon compressor, front shock absorbers, radioator and even the rear windscreen was replaced FOC under warranty. It was when my warranty ended and my gearbox started giving problems, that i decided to push off my car immediately. I lost about RM21K in resale value and i woved never to make that mistake again. I got a Vios in 2003 after test driving it 7 times in 4 states and i have had ZERO problems with it. Its still going strong and problem free despite it being 7.5 yrs old today. I have had many friends who also started with Wira's and Waja's and all of them have faced numerous issues. Proton's top guys have admitted it themselves. So no point denying that fact.

But in the last 2 years, Proton's quality has improved alot. Problems are still there as in all cars but the number of occurances have reduced drastically. It will take a long time for Proton to correct its image of being a problematic car. But im sure they are on the path towards achieving this.

especially with the waja. The QC is just not there. The vendors all rushing to finish the products. Bad images of proton because of they not very strict with their vendors.

Hope mitsubishi will monitors inspira vendors carefully this time.

I know any car needs to be maintained...

Can any Inspira owner answer the following questions (just average cost):
- The breakdown of maintenance costs for common change items once the warranty expires (gear oil, brake oil, etc.)
- The breakdown of maintenance costs of uncommon big change items once the warranty expires (such as automatic gearbox, manual gearbox, windshield, etc.)
- fuel oil compatibility: Ron95 or Ron97
- fuel oil consumption (I know it should be similar to current Lancers)

I need to evaluate the costs when buying one of Inspira models in the near future...

It would be better to see the differences in maintenance costs between those three models of Inspira...

"Syed Zainal said 60% of orders were surprisingly for the 2.0-litre model, followed by the manual variant and the 1.8.-litre CVT version." - star motoring

Seems like the 2.0 is popular. Just hope that proton does not wrongly forecast the demand vs production of this 3 variant. Afraid that when they try to ramp out the 2.0 production, quality drops. Just like the case of Waja.

I think they will try not to repeat the mistakes in Waja as that was on a different management and program altogether. But time will tell we will see improvements from Proton but so far they are on the right track.

when pressures being put because of the demand.. shit may happened. Hope that shah alam factory can meet all the demand. But as we all know, most of proton cars currently built in Shah alam. The high tech tanjung malim plant only use for savvy if im not mistaken.

I still cannot trust Proton quality, even this is from Mitsubishi model, but only first batch Mitsubishi provide all the parts, second batch onward will be totally local made and this is what I'm worry the most!
*
2nd batch? You would even know it if proton silently replacing the parts with local vendors. You wouldn't know when proton start using local vendors. Local vendor list all being rejected by Mitsubishi on the early agreement. Proton is looking and they will found the right vendor soon.

please read more before commenting my friend, or u'll look not smart...even after end of next year, there will still be 40% japanese parts..
*
the 40% japanese part must be the crucial part like the engine or maybe the chasis, not sure. But the engine will stay. When proton reach 60% with local vendors, proton will do the face lift version of inspira. Saw that in the official slide.

Please remember, this is built in Malaysia's Proton factory by Proton workers, not in Japan with Mitsubishi workers. I smart or not smart enough isn't your business, you just stay smart yourself when talking to someone. I have been driving Proton before and I know what is Proton and I know their quality, even previous Proton models also from Mitsubishi and everyone knows how good is the quality! Stay alert, time will tell the truth!
