My 1st floor has about 900 sq feet. I heard that doing the plaster ceiling may not be ok, because it may have problem due to raining and etc.

Can anyone quote me for the whole floor?

What happen if raining happens?

Added on October 14, 2010, 2:06 amThe height of my ceiling is just 9 feet

Added on October 14, 2010, 2:07 amIs there any waterproof plaster ceiling?

before you do the plaster ceiling...inspect and check the roof first..especially after heavy rain..some old houses got water leakage and it'll destroy the plaster ceiling smile.gif I think TS is concerned over this..

Hoho, at the moment, there is no such thing call water proof plaster ceiling, which may be have just i never hear yet. by the way, upstair are right, since is in door ceiling, what so worry about raining? the ceiling may spoil becoz of raining is the problem of leaking on your roof, so if there is a leaking, just ask sometime to fix the leaking part, then will be no problem already.

Note: other then plaster ceiling, any kind of ceiling also will have problem if roof leaking, so i don think you need to worry about plaster ceiling.

no water proof plaster ceiling! but u have to ensure the roof got no leaking then only install the ceiling.... if leaking happen after done the ceiling then u have to find contractor to do something on the roof. icon_rolleyes.gif

if u worry about water leak, try ceiling made from gypsum board. the profile is as flat as plaster ceiling (calcium fibrous bla bla..). then u can add cornice around.

But if existing ceiling is about 9' height, it'll end-up with 7.5'-8' height. wah, tat one will make the space so small.

Gypsum board, actually is just 2 plaster (which same as plaster ceiling) pressed between two thick sheets of paper. the only diff is gypsum have additional 2 pcs of paper and material to do plaster ceiling dont have. so it nothing much diff if the roof is leaking.

If there is another unit apartment on top of yours , you no need to worry about rain water leaking, and recommended minimum 6" of void plaster ceiling is good enough if you don't have cassette split AC.
