It took OCBC for 2 weeks to process my appeal and was only told just now that they needed the additional documents from me (which i have submitted for my loan application, which was approved by OCBC too).

According to them, i need to resubmit these documents as my loan has not been drawdown.  This i find it ridiculous, as my issuing a LO that would mean the bank is agreeable and has accepted me as a eligible customer for the loan sum.

weird, if not bcz of the cash rebate, i woud have already fcuk them.

I fully agree with the last paragraph. A penny saved is a penny earned...which can be invested.

To be truth im not qualified. My salary is around RM2000 per month. Im not even submit my payslip since i dont have  one. I applied the card by opening FD account and deposit a sum of RM5000. And i dont even have CCRIS record too.

am quite pissed off wif OCBC Titanum application. My agent help me to resubmit my application for 2nd time. she told me secretly that this time my credit card app failed coz of TIH (im nt sure the full sentence tho), she explained to me that it means when OCBC call to my office nobody pick up the phone. The office number I filled is general line (receptionist's number). Sometimes the receptionist is nt on her desk n nobody will pick up the phone. The 1st time my OCBC Titanum app failed under scorecard, this time fail under TIH -__-". I'm quite fed up wif tis OCBC dy coz my basic + fixed allowance meet the 36k requirement. Even my agent said actually for my case, my app could be approved one.

I did actually. They did not ask me to give them my income documents though.
Oh really ? I did not know that. Didn't receive any sms from Citibank either. I didn't even know my application has been approved until just now.
Thanks ! It is not my first choice but i guess i just have to use this for the time being. Will definitely try my luck with OCBC Bank again 6 months later (5 months to go actually).
Read the whole thing. It just says Watson and Guardian and that's it. Thanks by the way.

Like tzeling, I appealed and re-forwarded my income documents etc as requested by email to the OCBC staff liaising with me and even carbon copied the same to cap@ocbc.com. Received the 2nd rejection letter about 2 weeks ago.

To be honest, if any of my clients now request me to recommend a bank to obtain financing ie consumer/commercial loans (for which I am in a position to do), I will surely hesitate to nominate OCBC. Especially property conveyancing transactions where late payment results in interest!

Of course the bank is entitled to exercise their discretion to approve or not but it is a waste of time for 1st time applicants (who qualify according to the published criteria) who do not wish to carry too many cards - with the RM50 credit card tax, it doesn't make sense to earn 'rewards' towards tax.

I was on the verge of submitting my application for AMEX Gold CC and stopped short when I read about the OCBC MasterCard Titanium in this forum. Simply because AMEX's acceptance is still not widespread coupled with OCBC MC Titanium's generous rebates.

Now I have submitted my applications for 1) AMEX Gold CC - mainly for 2.5% equivalent fuel rebate etc AND 2) Direct Access MasterCard Platinum (only RM24K income requirement for professionals) Direct Access. Member-Get-Member Programme which is valid till 31/12/2010 entitles the introducer (my fiancée) to RM50 cash reward.

Now contemplating whether to park RM5,000.00 in OCBC's FD following carlitofreak's precedent. Reckon that OCBC's relatively lower FD rate is still worthwhile ...

Hi Juno88,

Maybe you need to list your priority and also your monthly spending limit in order to see which card is suitable for you.
I can see some of your points are.
- shop, pay bills, petrol
- bonuslink card
- CIMB & Maybank acc
- 3k salary

Is it you only use Shell petrol? Or just because you want to get bonuslink points? Some petrol stations give you higher rebates, for example esso gives you 1.5% rebate by itself. But of course if you think only Shell suits your car better than any other petrol brand, then it’s a different story.

A few options here.
OCBC Titanium: 5% rebate on bills, petrol, groceries, restaurant, 1% for others.
Use bonuslink also when you pump petrol at Shell.
But do remember that if you are not a big spender, the first 1~2 months rebates you get could probably be used to cover the GST charge. Although this card is good but it still depends on your average monthly spending amount and the category that you spend, some people can hardly benefit from it based on their spending pattern, just because everyone says it is good and they apply it.
It may be a bit tough to apply as your monthly salary is about 3k.

I don’t see MB card has any benefit for you in this case and GST will not be waived normally. The Amex gold cc is quite a good card but in general it is second to OCBC Ti. I think you can get the card easily but CL will be a bit low.
For CIMB card, gives you points and great rebates if you spend frequently on Guardian, KFC, starbucks…

Using MBF card also gives you bonuslink point (RM10 = 3 points I think). GST waive upon successful application. If you think you prefer bonuslink points for redemption.

I can say the information you provided is not enough to judge which card is suitable for you and I would suggest you do some research on your own first or provide more information.

There is a decent write up on credit cards in the November 2010 issue of Personal Money magazine which can be purchased at newstands etc.
The headline goes "Credit Cards that pay - Getting the best savings, rewards and discounts".

Thank you very much...very useful information for me too! AMEX Gold CC 5x MR (2.5%) plus Smiles 3% (1.5% x 2) = 5.5%. Now, if someone would start a fuel thread and update the list... notworthy.gif

You still have to pay for the convenience fee if you pay using a debit card. Therefore, the CIMB e.MasterCard won't help solving your problem.

What you need to do is to enroll for online banking and pay using direct debit. This way you won't have to pay for the convenience fee. However, please note that only direct debit from these 5 banks are supported for the time being. The 5 banks are :
- Maybank
- CIMB Bank
- Public Bank
- AMBank
- Bank Rakyat

For those who intend to purchase travel insurance, it would be better to charge the full airfare to your credit card to enjoy free coverage.
