So to those who has utilised their cards at IKEA (shopping/dining), do they get a 5% rebate back for both ? Since I'm new to this card, is there any outlets I should avoid as they dont fall into the Merchant Category that they are supposed to? Petrol categpry is very straight forward. Grocery is a tad blur.

a) Kedai Ubat sells groceries too, has anyone tried swiping ? 5% rebate?
b) What about hypermarkets? Giant/Carrefour/Tesco/Jusco ? All 5%?
c) Utility bills only apply to Syabas/TNB/Telekom ONLY? Are those cukai tanah/pintu consodered as well?
d) I previously have a Titanium which was cancelled Sept 2009. The letter which my NEW card came in states 17.500% pa interest rate , Basic , New. So am I considered a new cardmember cos iI understand that Balance Transfer is only applicable to new members? Called up the Helpline 3 times, 2 person told me NO, 1 told me YES.

Thanks in advance for replies.

I assume you are talking about OCBC TI ... you didn't even mention what cc are you talking about in your excitement to ask the questions.

The baseline information that you need to understand is that it all depends on what MCC does the merchant uses and this shall determine the merchant type. No one here could provide a detailed MCC list because this is strictly known only to the banks. Most guys here have shared based on their retail/spending experience, you can't get all the MCC answers OK?

a) Name also Kedai Ubat. Although it sells groceries but it is still classified as Kedai Ubat (perhaps not even pharmacy. (eg. Would you classify a clinic to be a pharmacy because they are selling medicines ? No ... you don't right ... they are still classified as a clinic)
b) All hypermarkets should share the same MCC classification. However, there was a report that 1 hypermarket is not getting the correct rebate due to incorrect MCC used by the hypermarket. (No ... we users can't do much to change this error except report to the hypermarket management)
c) Not sure.
d) I'd advise to try to do the BT and see what happens. You may put a qualifier as part of the application to cancel your BT application if the promo does not apply to you. Don't blame CS, they don't work in that department + the problem of the correct information not properly disseminated happens everywhere to banks in Malaysia. (Even foreign ones)
*
Firstly my apologies for not stating the card, yes, it's OCBC Titanium, you were spot on abt my excitement in asking those questions. tongue.gif

Thanks for the explanation. I shall proceed using my card by trial n error. Good day to you! smile.gif

OCBC TITANIUM USAGE
CARREFOUR-SRI PETALING KUALA LUMPUR MYS 0.00 39.00
BHPETROL JALAN KUCHAI KUALA LUMPUR MYS 0.00 50.14
COLD STORAGE-MONT KIAR KUALA LUMPUR MYS 0.00 14.55

The above entitles to 5%

Wish to share my statement... good to know that Carrefour SriPetaling does offer 5%, so Carrefour Tropicana Mall is the one to ignore. Thanks all for sharing their statement here so we know which to avoid. smile.gif

rclxms.gif rclxms.gif Also Guardian 5%, 0% 6 month balance transfer (no hidden fees at all) etc etc. But it is a very physically unattractive card, DA VI is much better but only offers 0.5% cash rebate, nothing else...cutting it in 2...hehehe

I think that's a good secure method.... albeit more troublesome. At least you know your account is being hacked ;-)
*
But it DOESN'T automatically log out if we leave it idle for a while, does it? Cos some banking websites do that.

(Disclaimer : Oops, apparently they do log out without warning ...lol)

From my experience, OCBC and DA do provide good customer service. They call back to rectify if they gave out the wrong info. rclxms.gif

All the three Singaporean banks offer this kind of security device to their customers in Singapore. I think there was an article saying that this kind of security device is the most secure one. Only two banks in Malaysia offer this kind of security device while all other banks send the one time password through sms most likely due to the high cost of offering this kind of security device.

Correct me if I'm wrong but if one loses this hardware token, isn't it dangerous? I mean it's just a small gadget , you might not notice if you have misplaced it. Whereas if you lose your phone, you're most likely to notice the loss sooner.

Yes, for selected merchants only. Need to think twice before deciding where to shop  sweat.gif
All in all, use Citi only at places where CIMB/DA do not give 5% rebate.
*
The above promotion ends 31st Dec 2010. Hopefully they will extend it like what they have been doing all these while. I particularly like the BT .

What I'm planning to do is buy RM1K worth of Tesco and Giant cash vouchers b4 the promo ends. That way I can max the rebates if they don't extend the promotion. And you get 5% even on weekdays, dont have to wait for the weekend to shop. thumbup.gif But be informed that Giant only offers 6 month validity while Tesco 1 year. Too bad Jusco ain't in the list cos Jusco cash vouchers have NO expiry date. tongue.gif

Question sifus !

This OCBC rebates does it apply to calendar month or statement date ? eg. my next statement falls on 15th Dec 2010 and I have already utilised the MAX rebate of RM120 (5% n 1%) on 1 Dec , does that mean I can have another RM120 rebate from 16th Dec 2010 - 15th Jan 2011 onwards, or I am done for the month of Dec 2010? Your help is very much appreciated. notworthy.gif

wow you are really a high spender.

It's been confirmed that the rebates are based on statement date ie. new card starting Sep 15 2010 - Oct 14 2010 -> only RM120 rebate and not RM240.

For the Dec period it is currently open to guesses. The rebate can be

1) RM120
2) RM50
3) tx in Dec evaluate based RM120 criteria, tx in Jan evaluated based on RM50 criteria

Most likely need to call in and ask after your statement date.
*
No, I didnt spend so much in a day, was merely giving an example. tongue.gif . I did call up the Customer Service and they said it is based on calendar month. rclxub.gif rclxub.gif So I sent them an email and still awaiting reply. Will share once I get a reply for the benefit of everyone . Meanwhile, do appreciate reply from others.

Well i got good news. Just got off the phone with OCBC CS and according to them, transactions from Dec X to Jan X (according to statement date) is entitled to RM120 rebate.

RM50 rebate for 1%+5% to start from Jan X to Feb X statements.

Disclaimer: Of course knowing the flip flops of CS, there is always a risk that the information is not accurate smile.gif
*
So i take it that the rebates are calculated as per statement date and NOT calendar month like my query earlier today . Meaning for example :

Assuming my statement date is 15 Dec 2010
I have transaction rebates of 5% amounting to RM120 on 1 Dec 2010 , I am still entitled to another RM120 rebate from 16 Dec 2010 - 15 Jan 2011 statement. Sorry a bit "cheong hei" here but I really wanted to make sure cos planning to max the 10% for bill payments.

Your disclaimer is noted smile.gif
