You explained it alright. So, the question one might ask you is that what's the difference in investment between Kapok and Martin if not in term of money return  wink.gif

you can choose to invest your money in a martin because of brand (to some people), quality, material and the sound it gives you which provides you the pleasure of playing it rather than a kapok.

So far i've not seen anyone purchase a kapok at the price of a Martin.

some kapoks actually does not sound too bad.
a martin is at least 20-30x the price of a kapok
but the quality is not exactly 20-30x better than kapok

like perodua axia vs porsche cayenne
if someone wants a car, it does not seem right to tell him to invest in a porsche cayenne

i still think investment is not the right word unless u are a singer and can make money from music

IMO kapok required twice the effort, the stock string really gonna make u quit playing, but what i did back then was changing the string to nylons. The tone is kinda dull, but it does serve the purpose for learning/practice guitar + easy for my fingertips.

Haven't seen this brand in Msia. I suppose you need to test out and check on the built quality.
With GST and ever weakening of the RM, you will find it tough to find a solid top guitar for less than Rm700.
Remember that a good manufacturer may make a better guitar with laminated wood than a not-so-good manufacturer with a solid wood guitar.
Laminated wood top guitars made by Ibanez, Yamaha and Cort are around rm500 and they don't sound too bad.
Their solid top guitars will be at least around RM1000 or more.

Unless you are a recording artiste, the difference in sound is actually hardly perceivable.
I think ensuring the right size, low action and using the right strings are much more important.

i think other than buying the guitar, you can consider allocate some budget to have it setup also. Guitars in that price range often need some setup work.
At your stage, i think playability matters more to keep you going.
Brands like Yamaha, Cort, Farida are safe manufacturer, you can go out and try them and see which 1 u feel connected/comfortable. See whether the neck can fit your hand and you can play comfortably. You dun want to get a good guitar but uncomfortable for you to play, then at the end of the day it becomes a struggle for you.

oh another brand you can try is takamine.

I'm looking for to buy a acoustic guitar budget around 500 to 600. Any model to introduce? Being trying out a few in my local guitar shop. Havent pull the trigger yet. Stopped on Grade 2 while learning classical guitar ( a pass down kapok :@@) from yamaha music centre. More interested in acoustic and finger plucking style. Thanks a bunch.

Hey guys, i'm thinking to get another guitar so that no need to carry existing guitar back and forth from hostel to hometown.
wanted to try solid top acoustic guitar but not really know how to choose one rclxub.gif

1. Yamaha FG800 (Solid Sitka Spruce Top)
2. Cort L450C All (Solid Mahogany Top,Back & Side)
3. Fender DG-8S (Solid Spruce Top)

After googled for 2 days, found above solid top acoustic guitars which within my budget.
which one is better ? confused.gif

Hey,

Don't you think that It would be better to buy travel acoustic guitar if you want to carry it back and forth from hostel to hometown?

I'd suggest you to think about that. I can tell you which travel acoustic guitars are good enough, but that would make this post very large smile.gif

I've reviewed couple of them on my blog. You can check them out here: http://acousticgo.com/top-5-travel-acoustic-guitars/

And among those three that you have listed here, I would choose Yamaha FG800. But I think that better option is Yamaha FG730S. You can also read review of that guitar on my blog.

I hope I was helpful in any way smile.gif
