Why do we have state governments?

My proposal is to get rid of state governments and legislatures. It's just a duplication of the federal government and legislature. A lot of money would be saved.

It may be true those days given the loyalty people have for the sultans. Today people see royalty as an expense burden. Even Australia was talking about doing away with QE recently and it do not create a big huh hah.

mereka menjaga hak2 dan peraturan yang termaktub dalam sistem di negara kita...
kalau tiada raja,,tiada pemerintah,, masing2 hidup tanpa peraturan...
dalam department juga mempunyai ketua2 masing2...
jadi,,ketua2 ini dilantik untuk menjaga bahagian masing2...

I'm suggesting that we get rid of the state and local governments. Not the royals. That is off-topic for this thread.

because from history we have different ruler in different sovereign states... now, Malaysia is a federal state coz combine all the small state to become one bigger state.

same like US i think. last time they were separated into 2 right? civil war and whatnot...

So is the only reason a historical one? We only have it now because we had it in the past. This does not strike me as a good reason.

What is the function of a legislature? To make laws. What is the function of state legislatures? To make state laws. How are the laws of one state different from another? Does anyone even know? If you ask 100 people travelling everyday between PJ and KL, could any of them name one that is different between these two places?

Do we even want to have different laws in different states?

Why do we have state governments?

It's in the constitution

Good luck with that...

It's just a duplication of the federal government and legislature.

The structure is the same but no state laws can usurp federal laws. There are duplications because the local government's political leaders are determined by the federal leaders.

IMHO we Malaysians can still save money without the need to change the constitution all the time...

most states are due to teh fedualistic laws and methods of governance in the old days. britian for example had lords and they looked over lands.

but the modern reason is easier governance, in sense each state needs their own governing body. a centralized system that looks after a whole country would be very inefficient as people up there cannot be sensitive to state events.

we cant expect najib to know whats happening to kuantan rite? it normally comes to him in a small report or community briefing on what happens in area x and thats if its very important.

No PM does everything himself. PMs delegates.

I'm thinking of state assemblymen, exco, and MB. And their equivalent at the local government level.

what i want to propose is to abolish the state royalties and combine them all as one into the Malaysian royal family. we will have only one King only. also, Allowance should only be paid to the royal family who carry a titles, and not to every royal family members.
