Hi,

I wanna ask what is the procedure for geting married? I mean the official procedure like registration to government office and others not the wedding ceremony because in my opinion the ceremony is unofficial and everyone does it differently. In terms of the law, what should be done?

Ceremony used to be the official recognition from peoples.... sicne we are living in a more civilized world, legitimate procedure that adhere the law is the correct method.

Its easy.... get 2 witness, submit your details to authorised office, go to suruhan sumpah, swear that you are not married, set a date and perform 5 minute swearing procedure and you are newly wed....

The Registrar of Marriage is the only legal venue that you need to attend. It is a branch under the Jabatan Pendaftaraan Negara (the place that gives you an IC). So the Registrar of Marriage is usually in the same place as the IC office.

People can apply to be Assistant Registrar of Marriage. Such application is usually given to religious leaders. That is why you can also register your marriage at a temple, church ... It is a legal as going to the Registrar.

Pesuruh Sumpah, you can go to any that offer the service, usually they charge rm10/paper for them to endorse. Some pesuruh sumpah will ask you to prepare the document yourself, as in print out and then bring over to them to stamp only.

Then with this, plus the photostat of your and parther's IC, can go to JPN, if you dunno any, go to Putrajaya loh, submit your details, if you want to book a date, check with them.

Putrajaya JPN ROM room is nicely decorated. biggrin.gif

Hmmm, I did not know you need a Commissioner for Oaths. I guess it it to declare that you are single. Previously the written declaration to the Registrar would suffice. That declaration so happen to be a Statutory Declaration in the marriage form itself. I guess Commissioner for Oath need to eat as well.

the date of marriage legally is the day you register... but alas, many chinese just take that for granted as the day of ceremony if far more important.. I register with my wife for a year earlier and prepare it for a year or two only get married.. traditionally

You just take what date you wish for anniversary. You can take both dates too. Then you have two anniversies to make it more "romantic" I guess. Just remember the date you are registered that will be legal. If ncome is efficient they would have sent you the relevant form for joint declaration within the same year. It is most likely you have not done your ceremony like most chinese.
