Hello Thread V!
Just saw my friend HTC Desire already comes with Froyo.. Feel Samsung is not doing enough for its customers....
Anyway I'm happy with JG4 on Voodoo magic...Don't think Froyo will bring any noticeable difference except maybe the flash on browser..
*
you cant really compare about the release date between our phone and desire notworthy.gif . may i remind you that desire come out earlier this year and sgs come out around june.

and desire just got their official froyo about 1 month if im not mistaken, its kinda lucky for us samsung want to realease it soon,

I like the idea of Tango app. Since it's cross platform, I can predict high adoption like whatsapp. Only if they resolve issue with every phone of every platform, and have a fantastic contacts system like whatsapp. Currently they seem to be hindered with the contacts system.

Btw guys, is there a quick way to type a comma (,) on the Samsung keyboard, without going to the symbol page? It's a disadvantage compared to swype.
*
that what im be facing when using samsung keyboard, i try to normally use swype keyboard but sometime when multi touching it just go and write gibberish cause the auto complete.

here is what i can say to solve the problem:
1.install other keyboard apps
2.try to turn off the sywpe auto complete(play with the speed vs accuracy)
3.install other keyboad mod such as HTC keyboard <-- im using it now, but the problem is, it doesnt support multi touch i think cause it is not as smooth as installed keybaord.

Anyone knows any Debit Card that can for sure use with Google Checkout? Applying for just another credit card just to pay for Market contents seems a bit drastic, so I guess debit card is the way to go.
*
use your maybank atm card as debit card, i try it, and it can go through

Is it recommend to upgrade to latest firmware? I just got my phone yesterday, wanna use the latest firmware, heard it will void warranty if I do it myself?
*
depending on what you mean by "latest" firmware.

what ever it means, go to setting > about phone (way at the bottm) > baseband version

if your baseband version is DXJG4 then you are on the latest "official" firmware of "our" region.

if you want to have the latest "official", "leaked", "unoffical" firmware, you can flash it using oding (guide is on 1st page)

it will void your warranty while you are on that firmware, if you want to claim your warranty at later date, you can flash back to dxjg4, as far as i heard, they dont have a clue whether you have flash it or not when sending for service

As for the lagfix, I gotta hold on first, as I haven't apply the 3-button recovery patch. Then I still haven't fully decide on OCLF or Voodoo, seeing that my battery is crap here.  hmm.gif

Thanks smile.gif

seems like your wifi is on AND running most of the time..... and you always open your display....

*
XXJM1 supposed to be US region firmware, so the shop already flash it to your phone, maybe they did it so that the phone could function better, less lag or so, but it does kinda show that the phone already been taking out of the box and been played with

guys how to use SGS as tethering? is it the one with AP setting to make it as a hotspot? does it work yet? or need froyo for that?
*
USB tethering, plug in the usb, tick usb tethering in wireless and network

Mobile AP, set the password and all of that, turn it on, connect at laptop, PROFIT!!

both of the method will make your phone heat up, when do tethering or mobile AP, i always open the back cover, you can feel lil bit hot near the speaker.

No specific settings that I can recall. I didn't even change 2G/3G settings manually. I think it is auto but 3G signal in my house is weak. I guess it might be using 2G most of the time. Using default twlauncher.
It doesn't last long when it is new. When I just got the phone, I just keep charging the battery. Charge, take out, play a while, about 90%, I charge it full again. After a week of repeated rapid charging, the battery indicator hardly falls.
*
from the way you say it, i kinda have a theory of what happen.

you do know that the battery indicator kinda messed up sometimes? (look it up, keyword: SGS battery indicator wrong)

maybe the way you charging it make the phone think it got more power than it should have, maybe at 30% or so you phone could go kaput suddenly (finish battery)

this is just my theory though laugh.gif well there are few forumer that say they got even 2 days of batt life

i was using on the Eclair firmwares previously but they weren't any better (before I tried Froyo which I thought would have solved my battery woes). I guess if I was using the i9000 as a primary device, I'd use the more stable Eclair. I'm going to wipe and re-flash (and not download any third party apps at all) to see how the battery life is.
At least this device is keeping me busy (and out of mischief) until the next device (like the Torch) is released that is!! Damn you gadgets!
*
ok, here is my suggestion, seeing you have flashing many times before, do the wipe battstat method, i did this after every flash, or a week or two of usage. and i getting good batt life, really good in my opinion,

QUOTE(mahad13 @ Sep 12 2010, 09:30 AM)
Nope.. you don't need Clockworkmod Recovery for that. What you need just Root and Terminal Emulator.

The steps I've taken:-
1) Using Terminal Emulator, remove the /data/system/batterystats.bin
2) Turn off the phone and charge till full (the battery symbol fully green)
3) Turn on the phone and charge till 100% full.

And yes, the result is good. I still have half of battery after 1 and 1/2 day usage include about 45 minutes Papago GPS and normal network, facebook and game.

easier method: find root explorer or any explorer that can go into the system folder, then just navigate to /data/system/ and delete the batterystats.bin its the same thing, but still do the charging though, for my way, i charge until it full first, delete, then charge with turn on until full, turn off then charge until full,

reason for doing this: its no use what power you battery have, if it thinks it have less power, then it will shutdown, this is wipe the memory of phone about the battery, so the real power is shown. i say this greatly improve my battery.

another thing to remember is the usage, maybe you dont do calls, dont do sms or gaming much, but how about the data connectivity? wifi? how often you turn on your display, and are yous sure you off the gps or not. this suck batt as well.

ow, and do remember that your launcher also sucks batt, i've use LG optimus launcher and my phone only last half of the day, it sucks 5% or so in one hour

what do you call this cable? just a cable from phone to your HDMI tv ?

Added on October 6, 2010, 6:37 pm

yes indeed. you need the earphone like the one came from sony ericsson? the one that has the rubber on the tip?
then itll be good. of course for headphone it wouldnt be powerfull enough, i also think its not loud enough too.
that is why its not suitable for headphones...cant turn it up louder

try use those earphones with the rubber on the tip, and turn up 5.1 ,..its like surround sound.
bad thing about it, cant turn up the volume much lol thats why not suitable for headphones
*
there is alsa mixget, search it up on the app market, it BOOST the volume VERY VERY HIGH!! careful though dont blast your ear, and try not to up the volume if you are not using headphone, just my logic saying it will damage the speaker
