depending on what you mean by "latest" firmware.

what ever it means, go to setting > about phone (way at the bottm) > baseband version

if your baseband version is DXJG4 then you are on the latest "official" firmware of "our" region.

if you want to have the latest "official", "leaked", "unoffical" firmware, you can flash it using oding (guide is on 1st page)

it will void your warranty while you are on that firmware, if you want to claim your warranty at later date, you can flash back to dxjg4, as far as i heard, they dont have a clue whether you have flash it or not when sending for service

XXJM1 supposed to be US region firmware, so the shop already flash it to your phone, maybe they did it so that the phone could function better, less lag or so, but it does kinda show that the phone already been taking out of the box and been played with
*
Yes it is opened unit, I requested for demo and he shown me this unit, after tried then I said I wanna buy, he gave me this unit. I asked if this is a new unit, he said yes. Since it does not have any problem, then I also did not bother much. Should ask for a new sealed unit >.<

If you click on the sync entry, it says sync the contact on WhatsApp. If you notice, in your phone's contact display option, there's a new entry for WhatsApp, which will automatically linked to your current address book's entries on related people.

I guess if you don't sync them, if any of the new users, which happen to belong in your address book, won't shows up in your WhatsApp. Hence you can't start a conversation with them.

This is just my guess, but you can try it out and let me know. At least this program's contact detecting works much better than Tango's.

Not to be a wet blanket. Could it be AP unit?

Did you get it off Samsung outlets or just any phone stalls?
*
It is distributed by pda-gadgets, I got it from random phone stall

I think you should return it and ask for a replacement as obviously the seller is selling you a open box demo unit and worse he flash a new rom on it
As a guide such sets you should not pay more than RM1.6k for it as consider used set. A brand new sealed AP set goes for about RM2.0 to 2.1k max

Thanks for the advice, I should go back and ask them then. So you confirm that he flashed to a US region firmware? I need some evidence to prove that he flashed it

Actually PDA gadgets brought these in as AP unit. We cannot know if it actually came from US and has got JM1 by default. Don't be too sure that someone has flashed the firmware yet.

I'm sorry to say, having an opened box for AP set is very normal.
*
what is the firmware used on the original set sold by authorized distributors?
So PDA gadgets is not an authorized distributor?

Only SME (Samsung Malaysia Electronics) is the official distro. Any other, it is AP.

8GB = confirmed AP.
*
You mean SME only selling 16GB?

browser have its own brigthness, so it can be different when you launch it.

I heard some games have their own brightness as well
*
I am pretty sure it is not browser as I already configure to the lowest setting...
The problem is it won't change back to my own setting after those programs were closed
