i went for an interview. its a 6 days job where i have to work from 9 to 5 on saturdays. the interviewer asked me if i am able to work on such hours. if i said yes, will i sound desperate in getting the job? what will be the appropriate answer?

Not really. Are you desperate to get a job? There is no appropriate answer for this question as both options would give different thoughts.

The best I could think of is say you might consider it (the working hours for Saturdays)..
*
Fact is, it IS a 6-day job, can't really say " I can consider working Sat".

If are willing to do 6-day week, by all means answer "That would not be a problem for me".

I don't think you have an option here man. Take it or leave it, ya?

Usually they'll ask " are you willing to work late? / weekends"
Then you can answer " ... might consider.." or "if its necessary to achieve our activities, then i will give my full support" or some fancy thing like that, no worries cos they probably hear it all the time.

Bottom line they comfortable with you, they'll hire you.

Generally there are two scenarios. When interviewing at a recruitment agency, they can catch BS and textbook answers easily. They usually dont look at your answer, but its how you answer. Enthusiastic, confident? Sarcastic? and so on....

However if interview direct with employer usually end up they like u or not la, lie or not, up to you. Just don't paint an image that you can do everything when in fact you can't...

What if your boss scold you and you know that you are in the right position?
I am curious how you answered this. Or rather, what replies would other forumers have on this query?

My answer: I would re-state my stand/opinion, and get the boss to acknowledge my view before he decide what he wants.

why should i choose you over the other guys?
*
I won't answer that directly. I'd say, based on my xp in this environment i am confident to quickly adapt and, well, bring some good results for you quickly... and am glad that you are giving me a chance at this vacancy here...

But thats my style, i dont like to answer head on. If that doesnt click with the potential boss, then too bad lah. Thats why interview also help you to see if you CAN work with that fella or not (vice versa).

if the job that i'm applying (let says in an audit firm) usually do not have fixed working hours and requires employees to work late at night and so happen the interviewer asks whether i'll be able to work late at night...how should i answer?i cant directly say no but i really do not wish to go back late especially in the early morning due to high crime rate in malaysia....also, it will take 45 mins to an hour for me to reach home from office...help is needed! smile.gif

I don't think you can get away with late nite work in many workplaces, esp MNC. If safety is a concern by all means don't take shift jobs/ late nite jobs because we work to survive/live, not work to put ourselves in high risk.

A decent answer would be: I am willing to work as long as I can complete the assignment, even if it is necessary to work late.

Its quite a popular question, but it may not necessarily mean you SURE HAVE plenty of late nights, just a way for internviewer to test you.

how do you expect us to help you with this question when we don't know you personally?
True, either you speak from personal experience, or cook up some bull story that sounds good (and standby the story for any interview that requires it). That's it.

afterwards they'll go into their company. Eg. have you heard of our company/ what do you think of our brand/ have you tried our products/ how do you think we can improve/ what recommendations do you have etc etc

This is a very important question especially if the question comes from your potential supervisor. It show that you bother to find out more about this assignment rather than just spamming resumes.

If a call comes in at an inconvenient moment, its best to explain to the hiring manager that you are unable to take the call at that time.

Calling back with "excuses", however genuine, may not help as they may already have made a decision with other candidates.

as with most employers, they want to see
1) right skill set
2) communication skill
3) attitude

btw.. i was being asked during an interview 'how many windows are there on the KLCC building?" ohmy.gif
how to answer it tactfully?

I am not sure if there is a good way to answer this, I suppose they want to see how you'd react to such a question.

Giving a beat-around--the-bush answer also may not be helpful. I think best way is not to act too blur and composedly answer with a positive answer...

State what you are currently getting, in total.
It doesnt make sense to just tell them your basic, you are looking for better pay, right?

^ thats quite pariah HR policy, u have ur own salary band by rank/position.

u pay base on how much u think the candidate is worth, not how much they are being paid and cap it to 20%. hr ppl are idiots.
